Chapter Text
Rose, a gold jaguar and Violet, a black panther were packing up their things into a space shuttle.
“This is exciting, Vi! I can’t believe we’re going to join the GASI cadets… Weird name though,” Rose told her sister.
“We must remain professional.” Violet put her paw on her older sister’s shoulder.
“Right, this is our chance to explore where no jaguar has gone before!” Rose announced, Violet looked at her blankly. “Right, staying professional.”
The duo drove to a large orange rocket-shaped shuttle.
“Huh, it looks a lot less dented than in the pictures.” Violet smiled. “So far so good.”
“I bet this baby could drive a million lightyears!” Rose grinned.
“Hello, Rocket Catdets.” YAY-OK, a cube shaped robot waved at the pair of felines. “See what I did there?”
“Sure.” Violet shrugged, but Rose giggled.
“It’s my job to train the new recruits.” YAY-OK put his arms around both of them. “Woah, you two are pretty tall.”
“We’re tall?” Rose gasped.
“Nobody ever called us that before.” Violet gasped. “You sound like you meant it too.”
“And what’s that smell?” YAY-OK pondered as a scent hit his invisible synthetic nostrils.
“Well, I did go to the gym recently.” Rose told him. “And my sister forgot to shower this morning.”
“Hey…” Violet grumbled.
“Huh, you both smell fine to me.” YAY-OK shrugged. “Anyway, your training starts in this room.”
The robot showed them a large obstacle course with sawblades and crushing machines.
“I got this.” Rose swiftly dodged every obstacle with ease. Violet gulped and took one step inside. YAY-OK and Rose covered their eyes as they heard violent machine voices and Violet whining in pain.
“I made it..” Violet panted as her clothes were torn and her hair was messed up.
“I see, you could use some work on that.” YAY-OK scratched his forehead. “Let’s see how you can operate this vehicle. Here is a simian… I mean a simulation room just in case.”
The two saw a room that was identical to the control panel of the ship, but instead of a window, it was a video game screen.
“I’m not 100% sure… But I think you press this button and pull this switch…” Violet fussed with a bunch of buttons and levers and drove almost flawlessly.
“Impressive.” YAY-OK stated. “You next, Rose.”
Rose went to the control panel, and on the screen her perspective crashed into many digital objects until the screen flashed “GAME OVER”.
“Oh zargles!” Rose slammed her fist on the red button.
“Imaginary self destruction sequence in 3… 2… 1!” A voice on the screen declared.
“I think it’s clear who should drive and who should be doing the physical labor.” YAY-OK told them. Both nodded quickly. “But I have to say you both exceeded my expectations, a lot.”
“We did?” Rose’s eyes grew and sparkled.
“Of course we did.” Violet smirked.
“If only you could know how much.” YAY-OK sighed.
“Are you okay? You haven’t smiled much since we got here.” Rose asked him sympathetically.
“Not everyone has to smile all the time.” Violet tried to correct Rose. “Some people and most robots just don’t show emotions the same way, similar to me.”
“Still, I can tell something’s bothering him.” Rose insisted.
“It’s alright, hey, it’s been a long day, maybe you should go use the litterbox.” YAY-OK suggested.
“Uh oh…” Violet frowned.
“We… DO. NOT. USE. THE. LITTERBOX!’” Rose snarled loudly. Then she took a deep breath and said calmly. “We use the toilet like everyone else.”
“Sorry about that, sir, she got a little heated there.” Violet chuckled nervously.
“Oh, right. Sorry.” Rose laughed more awkwardly.
“It’s fine.” YAY-OK adjusted his antennae. “Remind me not to get on your bad side.”
“Well, I’ll try to show it less if that helps.” Rose patted his head, but suddenly she crossed her legs and squirmed slightly. “But yeah, we’ll be right back.”
When the two turned around to leave, YAY-OK opened up his torso door and looked at a photo of himself with two monkeys on his shoulders.
“You were far from perfect, but I’ll miss you…” YAY-OK told the picture.
Meanwhile on a prison asteroid, Gus and Wally were sulking in their cell.
“Why did this happen… I’m too cute to be in prison!!!” Wally sobbed.
“Day two…” Gus marked the second tally on the wall. “Wally is not faring well, we don’t know what is happening in the outside world. The cell is cold and lonely, we have only each other for company, and the banana pudding they feed us here is mediocre, I mean seriously where did they learn to cook?”
“Stop monologuing, everyone is trying to sleep!” Another prisoner barked angrily from afar, only to be rewarded with shushes.
“All I know is…” Gus whispered menacingly to the air. “Someone will pay… We don’t know who, but they will pay…”
Back at the spaceship, Rose and Violet settled into their new beds.
“Goodnight Violet.” Rose smiled.
“Goodnight, Rose, tomorrow, maybe you can work on your driving skills.” Violet suggested.
“Oh please, I’m not touching that thing for days.” Rose rolled her eyes.
“Fair, I feel the same about that insane obstacle course.” Violet agreed. “So what do you think of our assistant?”
“He is kind of weird, but I’m sure he’s doing his job right, and he’s probably nice.” Rose stated honestly.
“I agree, night sis.” Violet was about to turn off the light, when YAY-OK rolled in.
“Apologies for disrupting, I just thought I’d check on you.” YAY-OK showed them a tray of cookies.
“Thanks, what flavor is it?” Rose asked.
“Banana, we… Have a lot of bananas here.” YAY-OK looked back at the kitchen.
“Interesting.” Violet took a cookie and took a nibble into it. “That’s pretty good.”
“Mmm, yeah.” Rose ate hers in one bite.
“Glad you like them, it’s… Nice to be appreciated.” YAY-OK gave a soft and warm smile. “Well, see you tomorrow, your first real mission will be waiting for you.”
“Good night, sir.” Violet yawned, showing her sharp teeth, then she curled up and closed her eyes, Rose soon followed suit.
“Good night, ladies.” YAY-OK turned off the lamp and rolled out of the room.
