Summary
"Wind you up and watch you go."
The Reader is an unwilling participant in one of Miranda's Cadou experiments, carried out by Heisenberg at her command. To everyone's surprise, she responds well to the parasite. Better even than Alcina, better than Heisenberg himself. But there is a catch; in order to remain alive and working, in order to live long enough to find out if she has any powers akin to the rest of Miranda's "family" and likewise learn to utilize them, she must remain in Heisenberg's factory. She can never stray too far away from him, or the key around his neck that he uses to wind her up every few days, like clockwork. Along with the parasite inside of her, Heisenberg's mechanical heart is what keeps her ticking. The two struggle with this forced proximity. The Reader grappling with her conflicting feelings of resentment and attraction towards her manic mechanic, and Heisenberg thrown at odds between his guilt at what he's done to her, and his need to have her even closer. Will love or hatred prevail in this dank dungeon miles underground? Will The Reader be able to find comfort in the arms of her captor, and will he be able to let himself be loved, the way he's always denied himself?
