I almost put this story down when I first started reading it and saw what the experiment was. For anyone with similar concerns: it has a happy ending, I promise, and the subject is handled with finesse. The road to the happy ending is also downright lovely: gentle, thoughtful, sexy, and full of some gorgeous metaphors and descriptions. The two leads are both charming in their own different ways, and the two standout secondary characters are delightful. There's a richness to the characters that's hard to describe. They feel like real people, full of all the little details and bits of personality that make someone unique.
I've probably reread this over a dozen times, so even if you don't normally go in for original fiction: read this one. Then read more by the same author, because this is just one gem set into a coronation crown's worth. :)

This story is so wonderful. It's about sexuality, and the way that "Is there a gay gene?" is the wrong question, and it's about choices and connection and friends and food, and I love it so much. It's quiet and understated and perfect.
It's amazing.
