Summary
The jobs were becoming riskier, deadlier-each one becoming closer to something that couldn't be outrun.
Shane Hollander, a Tidemaker, noticed while Ilya Rozanov, a Fjerdan, remained indifferent, insists that it's the cost of surviving in Ketterdam. Nothing more and nothing less.
But their routine jobs spiral when sent on a mission to find Aleksei: the fastest smuggler in Ketterdam-a ruthless and aggressive killer.
Instead, they're met with a version of the man who can become lethal if cornered-but he's someone so utterly clumsy and soft-spoken. And yet, there's an invisible bounty on his head.
Ilya almost wonders how Aleksei was able to defend himself for so long in Ketterdam.
