Work Text:
winter,
cold yet comforting,
like the blade you used that night.
cold and comforting,
just like the wet rag you held to your legs after
having had enough of the cold,
finally going back inside after the many times you've been told
expecting to be comforted by the warmth,
yet finding yourself confused by the burn
you'll think: "this was meant to help, why does healing sting more than breaking ever did?"
over time, the burn will lessen
over time, you'll realise that the burning was just the effect of
returning to warmth after being in the cold so long
finally, when the burn has stopped and everything is warm again, fall will come
things become colder again, but this time you're prepared for the dangers
you won't let yourself get that bad again,
no, this time you're wearing warm gloves
this time you'll be protected
though the burn will inevitably return over and over again,
over time, it will lessen until its barely noticeable and accepting warmth will become like a second nature once again
