“That was a kind thing you did. Showing Jeannie Rodney’s message.”
Elizabeth stood at John’s side, watching the sunset—an unspoken ritual they often shared.
John shrugged. “She told you about that?”
“Before she left. It meant a lot to her.”
“Yes, well…as much as I enjoy watching Rodney squirm…” He paused and leaned against the railing, thinking of his own broken family—how he hadn’t spoken to his brother in years. “Whole is better than divided,” he finally said.
Elizabeth put her hand on John’s in silent agreement, and together they watched the sun sink below the horizon.
