Chapter 1: Shrewd

Chapter Text

The fact is, I refuse to look most people in the eyes,
so there's no point to be offended by my rudeness:
I see too little to be swept by social ties,
I see too much to fight for something good.
I look into your eyes, and see the void of death;
I see fresh blood; I see your faceless audience;
I see a little girl lost in a snowy haze;
I see an armor of some great importance;
I see performances (of music, fancy banquets);
I see the antlers, growing out of your head;
I see sharp teeth; I see closed caskets –
I saw that all the day we met.
I knew you were a thing of vicious darkness,
but I ignored the signs of your deceit:
you may think I'm a hero, but the fact is
I have no patience for our race to let it be.
Our world needs all its carnivores to deal with
the weak and useless (my worldview is shrewd).
I saw your core, but don't know how to feel yet
about your tendency to see me as your food.
