Date Night

Summary:

Date night was one of the best nights in Remus's opinion.

or

Sirius takes Remus out on one of many dates. (Warning: this is sickeningly fluffy and self indulgent.)

Work Text:

Date night was one of the best nights in Remus's opinion. It was a night for cutting loose and having fun and not caring what anyone else thought. It was a night where the PDA, affectionately dubbed as gross by their friends, increased ten fold and Remus got to spend the entire time with an arm around Sirius's shoulders or a kiss pressed to his partner's cheek, or to their lips, or to their forehead.

It was also a night where Sirius got dressed up.

Date night was once every month solidly but usually they stuck a couple of extra dates in during the month too, more casual ones.

This was the once-a-month occurrence. This month, Sirius had planned the date and they were taking Remus to an art museum.

Sirius had been excited about it all month, talking about it incessantly. James had rolled his eyes and said it wasn't any different from their day out to the beach the month before or their trip to the zoo the month before that but he'd been smiling a little when he said it, just as excited to see Sirius as enthusiastic as he was as Remus was.

Remus pulled on something a bit nicer than what he usually wore. It was still trousers and a shirt paired with his (again what were affectionately dubbed by his friends as) usual grandpa jumper. However, he'd ironed his clothes in preparation for the special occasion and it was one of his nicer jumpers, one of the ones that Sirius liked to steal and wear even though it was too big for him.

He gave his hair a quick brush, trying not to make it too huge and puffy in doing so, and knocked on his door from the inside of his room. Sirius was standing outside having told Remus to not come out because they were going to give Remus the "proper date experience".

"Can I come out now?" Remus asked and he could hear the smile in his voice. Being with Sirius just brought out that side of him: the side that beamed every time he laid eyes on his partner, the side that laughed for hours with them in the night, the side that loved so fiercely after so much tentativeness at first.

"Give me a sec!" Sirius's voice sounded on the other side of the door. Remus heard some shuffling and a clearing of a throat and then a knock at the door.

He rolled his eyes unbearably fondly. "Come in."

The door swung open and there stood Sirius with a large bouquet of flowers in their hands. They shoved it towards Remus, practically bouncing on their toes with excitement.

"They're lilies," Sirius said. "James assured me that they're the best flowers for a date, though I think he might be a bit biased."

Remus took the flowers. "Thank you. I love them."

He went to grab a vase to put them in and only after turned back around to face Sirius. They looked absolutely gorgeous.

Their hair was half up, curls brushing their bare shoulders. They were wearing an off-the-shoulder top in a shade of deep red with a black logo printed on it, which showed off their collarbone constellation tattoos (Leo and Canis Major). It also paired with their black, flared trousers and red, heeled shoes. Over the top was their signature leather jacket, though this variation was cropped.

"Why hello there," they said, wiggling their eyebrows. "Don't you look good tonight, Mr. Lupin?"

"Me?" Remus replied. "Have you seen yourself? You look… incredible."

Sirius laughed and shook their head. "I look incredible every day but it's not about me tonight. Tonight, I spoil you."

Remus grinned, leaning down for a kiss but he was stopped by Sirius's hand against his chest, pushing him back.

"Nope. I've got to earn that," Sirius said.

Remus raised an eyebrow. "Earn it?"

"Yep. One good date equals one kiss for me."

"Just one?"

Sirius hummed thoughtfully. "Well, maybe the number can be negotiated. Depends how good of a date it is."

Remus sighed. "Can't I just say it's already been an amazing date and we stay here?"

"Remus!" Sirius said, putting on a dramatically offended expression. "What do you take me for? This is date night! Come on! Have fun with it."

Remus was reluctant to agree, not because he didn't want to but because he really wanted this date to be over with as soon as possible so he could get his kiss, but he had promised Sirius he would play along.

"Alright. Are you driving?"

"Yep," Sirius said with a wicked glint in their eyes. "And we're taking the motorcycle."

Remus liked riding the motorcycle with Sirius even though the sharp turns and the speed scared him out of his mind. Mostly, he liked wrapping his arms around Sirius's waist and holding on tightly.

They arrived at the museum three minutes quicker than their satnav had said they would — which was mostly due to Sirius's driving — and parked, taking off their helmets. Sirius grabbed Remus's hand and led him inside, half-dragging him in their haste.

"Get ready to be so impressed," Sirius said. "I learned so many facts about these art pieces that I could run the audio guide."

"Alright," Remus said. "Lead on."

Sirius started talking animatedly about each piece of art as they walked by it. Their hands were up and waving in the air and they frowned a little every time they tried to remember a fact or had to correct themself over a small detail. Mostly, Remus was staring at his partner, watching their spark shine bright, and wondering how on Earth he got so lucky.

"Are you actually listening?" Sirius demanded with a groan. "I worked so hard on this!"

"I'm listening," Remus promised, using their joined hands to tug Sirius in for a kiss on the forehead.

"Hey!" they protested. "No kisses."

"It wasn't even a lips kiss!" Remus countered. "Don't torture me."

Sirius sighed, rolling their eyes. "Fine. Forehead kisses are allowed. Honestly, love, you're insatiable."

Remus smiled. "Damn right."

They carried on walking, admiring the exhibits and only occasionally stopping for a quick forehead kiss.

By the end of the date, Remus had his arm wrapped around Sirius's shoulders, their hands still entwined, as they sat on one of the benches, staring at a painting of the night sky.

"Good date?" Sirius asked, leaning their head against Remus's shoulder.

"The best," Remus answered.

"Good enough for a second?"

"More than."

Sirius hummed contentedly, settling in closer to Remus's side. "I love you."

"I love you too."

Once they'd arrived home, they settled into bed, having more than made up for the lack of kisses earlier, dressed in the matching pyjamas Marlene had bought them both as a joke that they secretly loved.

"We should do this more often," Sirius said, yawning. "If you can manage with your energy levels, that is."

Remus nodded. He was tired and a little sore after having walked around all day but it was more than worth it to spend the day with Sirius.

"We can up it to twice a month?" he suggested. Sirius smiled sleepily.

"Yeah. Let's do that. Love you, Moony."

"Love you, Padfoot."

"Goodnight."

"Goodnight."
