The Death You Chose

Summary:

Toga didn't die saving Ochako.

She saved Ochako, then kissed death on the lips and skipped away.

When rescue showed up they quickly realized Toga was not fully gone, so they took her too. It’s assumed by the General Public that Toga died and well… the scientists & doctors weren’t going to correct that train of thought. In reality they took Toga in the hope that, if she ever woke up from her coma, they could reform an A-Rank villain to, at minimum, a “normal” person, and at best… a hero. This is the story of Toga, 8 years after that horrible battle and how she became a friend to the people she once tried to kill and a reformed hero to the public.

Chapter 1: One night, a few moons ago, I saw flecks of what could've been lights

Notes:

I've had this idea bouncing around in my head since I read THAT chapter. Since I can't seem to let the idea go.... I'm just going to write it out and let y'all read it in case you, like me, can't accept the ending. (Okay?? I just can't accept she's dead. You won't convince me. 😤😤) So here! Enjoy.

Also, tags will update as I write more.
If I decide to do something huge that would change the archive warnings or rating, I'll tell y'all well before I post it.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Toga stood over Ochako’s broken and bleeding form. A knife clutched tightly in one hand, her mask hanging from her other.  The wind ripped around her, but Toga didn’t feel the cold against her bare skin. She barely even registered that her hair had fallen from one of its buns, her mind was racing.

Her eyes drifted to Ochako when a pain shot through her left side, causing her to crumple momentarily. Using Jin’s ability for so long was wearing her out; Hell, she opened her mouth to speak only to feel like dust would come out.

“It hurts…” she huffed out, her eyes scanning the destroyed scene. Zero Gravity propagated across the battlefield and ensured that the heroes had safe landings. “Ochako… you didn’t stop using it until you knew everyone would be okay…” She shook her head, staring down at the bloody and bruised woman before her. “In the end… you’ll never let anyone down hard.. Will you?”

Tears welled up in golden eyes as the echo of Ochako’s words ping-ponged around in her head, “I had to tell you that you have a beautiful smile!”, I’ll give you my blood for the rest of my life!” and the one that made her heart ache “The cutest in the whole world.

A small, almost inaudible snort of laughter escaped before she could squish it down, she let it ride out and then raised her head to the sky, watching a helicopter circling above them. She was sure they were recording everything. She was sure that whatever everyone was saying on the other side couldn’t be worse than what her parents had told her over the years. It couldn’t be worse than what the doctors had told her.

She lowered her gaze back to Ochako, the beautiful and bloody woman who lay before her, trying to take in a breath. It was in that moment of silence between them that she realized the only people who had ever cared about her were dead or dying.

Dead or dying

Then it struck her. Dying. Ochako was dying and she could stop it. The realization that she could save Ochako, that she could try and show love in a different way than she ever had, she could show her love for the woman by giving her the blood she needed to live. She could give, instead of take. Sure, she might be the reason Ochako was bleeding… but she could also fix it!

“Listen, Ochako. The league of villains, they will destroy everything. And sure, once the dust settles, I know that that world would be easier for me to live in.” She sank to her knees and looked at the spot where her knife had sliced through Ochako’s skin so smoothly. Like a surgeon’s blade. Beautiful.

It would heal nicely.

She leaned down, scooping some of the pooling blood into her hands and took a sip. In an instant her body’s cells ripped themselves apart and reformed turning Toga into an Ochako clone, clothes and all. “I was so happy to hear what you had to say, and I know I said it’s live or die, winner takes all… But…” she pulled her needle pack towards her, sticking one end in her own skin, right at the crook of her elbow, wincing only slightly from the sting of the four needles. She took the other end and stuck it into Ochako. “But the thought of a world without you? No. I don’t like that.” She said head shaking as she flipped a switch and watched the blood flow from herself through the machine and into Ochako.

In that moment her quirk weakened causing her left side to revert back to her original self. Blonde hair cascading down around her face on one side, mahogany brown the other. She was an amalgamation of the two women, gold and brown eyes watching her own life slowly drain away and into the woman she had grown to care for despite everything that made her, her.

“And to show how genuine these feelings are… all of my blood” She said, tears finally letting loose to slide down dirt covered skin, creating a clean path till it fell off only to land on the ruined ground around them. “Is now yours to have. Every last drop. Instead of taking I want to give it to you,” She said with a smile, snapping off a needle on another one of her weapons and pulling a string from the ripped cloth of her clothes. She quickly affixed it so she could sew Ochako’s wound shut. Or at least enough it would allow her to make it to a hospital in time. “When I was on the brink of death, Jin saved me by doing this. But since I’m out of Jin’s blood, I gotta turn into you Ochako. Cause, if I can use someone else’s quirk… then my blood must turn into their blood too, right?”

Ochako stared up at her, eyes half lidded, breathing ragged as she managed to get out “Wait – Don’t.. You’ll die.”

“We’re you really planning on visiting me in prison, Ochako? Making those blood donations until I die?” Toga asked as she finished sewing the stab wound shut. She ignored the woman’s continued protests as she rolled, so her hip was pressed into the dirt and she was propped up on an elbow hovering over Ochako so they could maintain eye contact. “You could’ve just killed the deviant… the demon….” A pause, “The monster. It would have been okay for a hero to do those things” Toga gave the other woman the same smile that she had been told was cute just minutes before. “Yet you.. You cared about me enough even though you didn’t need to, even though I hurt your friends… hurt you.” She paused letting the silence sit between them just for a moment before adding “You’re weird, Ochako”

“Right back at you! You can’t do this, please - ” Ochako had started to say before Toga crumpled. Pain coursed through every cell of her body as it struggled to maintain the form of the other woman while also draining blood into her. Toga’s hand rested on top of Ochako’s squeezing just slightly.

“I live and LOVE as I please.” Toga said with a giddy laugh, followed by a strangled, wet, cough, “So no, I can’t let you catch me” she continued after catching her breath. “I’m sorry I stabbed you. I’m sorry I yelled at you. I really, really am.” She let herself fully sink from her elbow letting her head hit the dirt as brown and blonde hair mixed together in the rubble. Toga rested an arm over the other woman’s chest, pale fingers brushing away some bloodied hair from the other’s face.

She could feel herself becoming cold, could feel the life draining from her. Her head swam in dizziness like a pool of darkness ready to swallow her whole. Images flashed across her mind, memories of good moments, of her childhood, of friends who had once cared. Of people who had loved her… and those who hadn’t. Of her parents yelling, their non-understanding. Their hatred for everything Toga was. The words Monster. Demon. Hell spawn were loudest, screaming in her mind telling her that that was what she was, despite what she was doing as her final act.

“Toya burned down my childhood home for me.” Toga said quietly, her voice growing weak as her breathing sped up. “It was a normal home… full of horrible, terrible things. I tried to pretend it never existed. That I had never lived there. So he burned it… to make it go away for my sake… and that made me happy. But even with the house gone,” She coughed, blood trailing from her lips down her skin. “The bad stuff… it’s still there in my heart But you… you didn’t pretend everything was fine. You saw it, the pain, the fear… and as painful as it was when you reached out and touched me… my heart had never felt so light. Like it could just float away.” She let out a tiny huff of a laugh, a smile still on her lips. “At least… At least.. If this is how it ends, then the last thing I did was something good.” She pushed herself up just a bit more so she could look Ochako in the eyes once again.

“Thank you Ochako.. You tried when no one else would, you gave me a chance and you’ve made me so happy. Truly, genuinely happy.” she said, leaning down to press a kiss to the woman’s lips before collapsing from weakness back to the ground. Toga knew this was the end, knew death was knocking at her door, and for once she was ready to face it. Ready to embrace death as a friend, one she had sent many to and now… finally herself.

Her thoughts swam, mixing and swirling together until only two trains of thought were fully understood and accepted in the dying woman’s mind;

1) That she had wanted to become others so badly, to experience the love and joy she had seen others do all her life and to do so in the way she had been told was “proper” and “good” to express your emotions,  that she had become scared of her own emotions. That maybe if she had known this feeling of joy and acceptance sooner then…. despite how badly her family had treated her, despite her quirk, she could have instead yearned to give her blood away and help others. That, that sort of love would have made living in this world so much easier.

And 2) That Ochako Uraraka was the best damn hero the world had ever seen and had shown Himiko how to care.

Ochako’s eyes welled up with more tears, her already tear stained face growing cleaner from all that she shed. “Hi–Himiko!” she shouted, hoping that her yelling would get the woman to open her eyes once again.

And with one last breath before closing her eyes Toga managed to get out “That’s me” as her hand stilled, her chest stopped rising and her eyes fully closed. A small smile was on the woman’s face, sincere and only for Ochako.

Ochako screamed

The sounds of a second helicopter grew louder as the wind started to kick up around them. Hair and dirt flying, Ochako screamed her anger into the world. The sounds of feet and orders being yelled filled her ears.

“Toga has stopped doubling! The clones are disappearing!” Someone shouted from nearby while three faces swam into the blurry view. Above the two women were first responders, they worked fast talking as if Ochako wasn’t awake, because to them it had looked as if she had passed out after that scream.

“Get Uravity onto that board NOW. Neck brace and pressure on the wound. Pack it.” one shouted.

“Is that Himiko Toga?” Another said.

“Is she dead?” a third chimed in as they worked to load Ochako onto the board. They reached over, strapping Ochako to the board with velcro so that the movement wouldn’t make anything worse.

“Help… Her! Blood… loss” she said, eyes fluttering as she stared at the sky, watching as flecks of lights started to pierce through the dark clouds and reveal, in great detail, the destruction and chaos they were in the midst of.

“Our priority is you!” the first of the responders said.

“I’m pretty sure she’s already gone, Uravi- “ the second was interrupted by the third.

“She’s a villain.” They said with a bit of disgust. Only to be slapped upside the head by a fourth person. Who bent down to check the blonde. Her brow knitted together tightly as delicate fingers pressed to Toga’s neck and counted. There was a pulse there, but it was weak, each heartbeat further away from the last.

“Mr. Aoki, Mrs. Shiratori,” she said, glancing over her shoulder at the two who had commented a bit more negatively after Uravity’s words. “Your job is to comfort the sick and injured. I do not care if they are good or bad. I don’t care if it's All For One or your own mother. You treat them the same.” she scolded as she motioned for another backboard to come so they could hook up Toga, “We comfort and do our best. When we get back to the lab, you’re both on cleaning duty. Now get them both onto the helicopter and hooked up to transfusions. Call ahead and have another ready to transport Ms.Himiko Toga to the lab along with three more liters of O.”

“Yes Ms. Shimano” they all said in unison.

THREE MONTHS LATER

(August)

Shiratori tapped on a beeping machine, she smiled, scribbled down some notes and went to check a different machine. Black hair was tied up into a tight bun on the top of her head, glasses sliding down her nose as she wrote. Under her breath she was muttering down the numbers, before flipping back and forth between two pages. Her head popped up and she locked eyes with Mr. Aoki, a broad man that made her think of a barn wall with muscles the size of her head, and raised a thin red eyebrow.

“Her stats are mostly normal, a bit higher BPM today.” Shiratori said, grinning wide.

“That usually only happens after we give her blood.” Aoki chimed in, returning the grin.

“The charts are saying she did get today’s meal.” Shiratori tapped the pen on her lips, “Could it just be that?”

“She got that four hours ago though, normally her levels drop down after an hour.” he said, his lips turning down momentarily. “Nothing about her recovery has made a lick of sense to me. Who knows if she’ll even wake up. This could all be for nothing.”

“I’m going to get Dr. Yuyuki, she’ll want to know.” Shiratori said quickly moving out of the room while Mr. Aoki returned to wiping Toga's face with a cool damp cloth. But it was with this second touch that something changed.

She twitched.

Brown eyes grew as large as saucers as he glanced around, this was his first real coma patient and while very well trained, Ms. Yuyuki would allow nothing but the best, he was still startled. He leaned in as Toga’s mouth opened just slightly of its own accord, curious to see if she was trying to talk or if this was just… her sleeping. His ear was hovering over Toga’s face as her eyes fluttered open and a small broken sound escaped her.

“Oh-” she started to say before she was cut off by Mr. Aoki.

“Ms. Toga, please, don’t speak, you must save your energy. You’re okay. Dr. Yuyuki will be here in —”

“Now.” Yuyuki said as she walked into the room. Just as she was on the day of the war, Dr. Yuyuki Shimano looked as if she could use two days of uninterrupted sleep, a warm bath, a bottle of wine and a hug. But there was a smile on her face and her blue eyes were as bright as the day sky outside. “Hello Himiko.” She said leaning over the blonde, a small flashlight pinched between two fingers. “I’m Dr. Yuyuki Shimano, I’m just going to check your eyes. Follow the light.” She instructed, waiting to see Himiko acknowledge what was said to her. She then clicked on the light and rose it up so that she could test the woman.

After a moment she clicked the flashlight off and grinned wider, “Vision seems normal. Vitals…” she paused, taking the clipboard from Shiratori and glancing to the machines strewn around the room all connected to one woman. “Appear normal. I’m going to ask you questions, but I don’t want you to speak, not until we get fluids on your throat and some actual food in your belly.”  She paused, which allowed Toga a moment to process and nod.

Around them Shiratori and Aoki worked to get Toga comfortable as the head of the bed slowly rose up allowing Toga to more easily see what was going on in the room.

“Okay, Good.” Yuyuki said, but Toga felt like she was starting to drift away again, her mind was running.

Where was she? What was happening? Who were these people? How did she end up here?

The hamster in her head was just getting started on its run when Yuyuki’s honey coated voice broke back through the mental fog.

“Toga… you’re okay. We’ll go slow,” She said softly, reaching out to touch the woman’s hand. She set the clipboard down on the table nearby, pulled up a rolly chair and crossed one leg over the other as she re-grabbed the clipboard and hovered her hand over to write.

“When you tried to talk a moment ago, did it hurt?”

Toga paused then nodded slowly.

“Okay, Aoki get the mini dry erase board and marker from my office, along with cool water and some bread for our friend here.” Aoki suddenly stiffed, nodded and bowed before walking off quickly. “Answer these questions to the best of your ability, okay? It’s okay if you don’t know or remember. We’re assessing your memory… I’ll explain it all once we get these base questions out of the way okay?”

Another nod.

“Do you remember how you ended up here?”

A shake of the head, just as Aoki reappeared in the doorway with the items requested. He quickly set all three down on the overbed table, before taking a step back to stand behind Dr. Yuyuki, ready to help at a moment’s notice.

“What is the last thing you do remember?” she asked, and waited as Toga slowly and painfully moved to write something on the dry erase board. Dr. Yuyuki rose up just slightly to more easily see what was written, which caused Shiratori to move around the others and move to stand next to Toga.

“Tartarus Break” Shiratori filled in, only seeing the first three letters written. Toga nodded, dropping her hand. Hell, that little bit of energy writing three letters was exhausting.

“Okay, that was back… in march I believe.” She glanced at the others who nodded in confirmation. Toga’s mouth was open slightly and her eyes downcast at board, Shiratori who seemed to pull a cloth out of nowhere, wiped the board down.

Written on the board, after a long moment of struggling, was Month?”

“It’s the 19th of August” Dr. Yuyuki said – and it hit Toga like a truck driving at highway speeds.  She had lost months of her life. She had no clue who was still alive, what had happened but she remembered that they had been planning, plotting – something… she couldn’t remember what, but something had happened in that time she was out and panic started to rise in her stomach and she felt nausea wash over her. Her eyes were wide as her breath quickened.

But before she could freak out too much, Yuyuki grabbed her hand and pulled Toga’s attention back to her.

“Breathe with me.” She said, taking in a long breath to the count of five. Toga didn’t follow along so she let it out and tapped her finger to Toga’s palm once again. “Please Miss. Himiko, deep breath in…” she said. This time Toga followed, eyes still wide but locked on Yuyuki. They held the breath for the count of five, then let it out slowly, again to the count of five. They repeated this thrice before Yuyuki smiled “Okay, I’ll explain it all I promise.” She rubbed her thumb over the woman’s skin and then pulled back. “Your voice is weak because you sustained a great amount of blood loss and fell into a coma for three months. Your body is mostly healed from the fight you endured, but lack of use weakens anything and three months has made your voice and body weak. We’ll work on it, okay?”

Toga’s eyes searched the doctors for any chance this was a cruel, cruel prank, but seeing only concern and caring made Toga want to recoil and curl up into a ball. The movement, to try and do that though, felt so far out of reach. The energy she’d need – It wasn’t there. She felt utterly exhausted, as if she could close her eyes and never wake back up… and she’d be okay with it. At least she’d be with her best friend again.

“It was during what we’ve been calling the Final Battle; you were part of that… Do you remember anything?” Toga shook her head, brow furrowing, “Right, well, you were fighting Uravity. You had ingested Twice’s blood and were creating duplicates en masse. We found you wrapped around Uravity, still partially transformed but giving her your blood. We can only surmise that you had passed out in the blood transfusion. We had all honestly thought you had died, but your heartbeat was there. Very faint, very sporadic but it was there.”

Golden cat eyes fell to the bed, her mouth open once more, she blindly reached out and grabbed the cup of water and downed it in an instant. Her breathing was slow but her eyes were wild.

“We brought you back here. You were in a coma and honestly, we were unsure if you’d survive the night much less wake up. You had lost over four liters of blood, if not almost five. I’m still not quite sure how you managed to pull through.” Yuyuki commented, amazement laced in her voice. It caused Toga to look up and actually take in the pink haired woman in front of her.

Here was a doctor who somehow did and didn’t look the part; her hair was up in a messy long  ponytail the exact color of Ochako’s Uravity outfit, piercing blue eyes would have bore holes into her skin if not for the genuine curiosity that seemed to radiate from the doctor. She had the air of a doctor but not the look – but what caught Himiko Toga’s breath was the smile that crossed her doctor's lips. It reminded her of Ochako. The way her smile made her squint just a touch....

Tears jumped to Toga’s eyes and she quickly clenched them shut to stop them from spilling over. Sensing that she needed a moment, or at least for no one to point out the tears, Yuyuki wrote a note and then continued.

“Clearly some part of you still had something left to do in this world and you refused to let go.” She said, a smile still dancing on pink lips. “Now, you’re probably wanting to know what our plan is for you,” Toga nodded, eyes opening and moving back to her doctor. “Well, we're going to do our best to get you back into fighting shape.” Toga’s lips parted as if to ask a question but quickly was silenced by Yuyuki’s words, “The government decided that if you were to ever wake up, that your time served would be through being the first test subject of a brand new program. A rehabilitation program for the criminally minded.”

She pointed to Toga’s ankle, which was covered by the pale blue blanket draped over the woman’s form. Without needing to be told, Aoki pulled the bedsheet back just enough for Toga to see what was being pointed at, then covered it again, tucking the sheet under the woman’s foot.

Wrapped around Toga’s ankle was a sort of bulky black bracelet that was clearly a newfangled tracking monitor. “You’ll have to wear that until told otherwise, but it should be comfortable enough that you can itch and wash around it without much issue. Heat, water, hell, I’m pretty sure that thing is bullet proof. Don’t worry about damage you can do to it, but remember it will shock you if you try and take it off. Not even we can remove it for anything. There’s no key. It’s all – well, to be honest, I don’t know how it works I just know we need to start making buildings out of that stuff.” She muttered the last part, shaking her head. The world outside was rebuilding from the aftermath of the Final Battle. They would be for years to come with how much destruction was wrought across Japan even with all the quirks that were being used to help.

“I’ll let you rest now. I know this is a whole lot to take in. If you forget anything, or have more questions, after today, whether medical or about what happened since you last remember, you can ask us and we’ll be happy to try and fill you in. We’re open books here, and your health and healing are our priority. But today I want you to rest. Doctors Orders.” She looked at her underlings and nodded. One quickly moved to grab the remote to the TV that was mounted on the wall up high in the corner of the room. They laid it on the tray, smiled and left the room.

All that was left was Toga, staring at the empty doorway her world turned totally upside down.

ONE WEEK LATER

Toga laid in bed, a gingham blue and white patterned gown draped over her still weak form as she flipped through a newspaper. Strewn around her was a book of sudoku & crosswords half filled out, three books in a pile on the overbed tray, the dry erase board with marker, a cup of pudding with a spoon, and a stack of newspapers at least a foot high on the floor next to the bed.

She peered over the top of the paper as Nurse Shiratori strolled in, hair freshly cut into a bob and a small, hesitant smile on her lips. Under one arm was a clipboard, and on top of her ear was a pen. It was clear to Toga when the woman walked in that she still wasn’t fully comfortable being in the same space as her. She guessed she couldn’t blame the nurse for being worried. Toga was known as a killer who had a “sick fascination” with blood. It would have made Toga laugh if it wasn’t for the fact that making that noise would make her want to vomit from pain.

“Good morning, Miss. Toga.” Shiratori got out, her voice a bit shaky but smoother than it had been the day before. “I hope you slept well. How’s our throat feeling today?”

Toga swallowed, furrowed her brow and stared down as she folded the paper. Her mouth opened and “I-It. Hurts.” slipped out before she let out a huff of a sigh and let her head fall back onto the hospital pillow.

“That sounds better than it did two days ago!” Nurse Shiratori said actually sounding excited for the first time in Toga’s knowledge. “I’m sorry it hurts, so let’s still go easy on our chords today. A couple words here and there every hour or so but only when it doesn’t hurt too much. Think of it like a workout. A little stretch of pain is good, a lot of pain means you’re making it worse all together. So a couple words an hour, and lots of water and before you know it your voice will be back.”

Toga nodded and reached for her dry erase board and marker. The strength in her arms was slowly coming back, or moreso, she didn’t feel so weak writing anymore. She scribbled something down then held it up.

What about my memory? Can I do anything for that?

Shiratori sighed and shook her head.  “It’s just up to time and your body is healing, we had hoped some memories might have come back with the news” her eyes drifted to the newspapers then the remote. “We’ll keep trying though.”

THREE WEEKS LATER

(September)

“Hello Miss. Himiko Toga.” Aoki said, his gruff voice filling the small hospital room. “It’s a pleasure to see a big smile on your face today. How are we feeling?”

Toga was out of bed. Hobbling around the room, using anything she could to help support her weight. It had been a month since she had woken up from her three month long coma, she was slowly regaining basic functions. She could… sort of walk on her own, so long as she had something to lean on, though that had taken a full week by itself for her body to be strong enough to move one foot in front of the other. Speech lessons had helped her regain her voice along with general physical therapy and she was making a remarkable recovery for how long she had been out. Or at least that is what Dr. Yuyuki had been telling her. She wasn’t as sure, but she’d make do. At least until she could actually move on her own.

“Better today,” She started, her voice was still slightly weak and scratchy but almost normal. “Still hurts a little, my head feels fine. I still can’t really move on my own which makes me want to kick something. Not that I CAN.” as she said the last word it got a bit louder than she meant. The nurses had told her random bouts of loudness and frustration were perfectly normal in coma patients. But Toga really hated that she couldn’t control herself. It made her skin crawl to feel so out of touch with her own body. “I guess,” she paused, realizing she was still a bit loud, and took a deep breath before speaking. This time it was a normal volume. “Slow movements are better than death. Especially such a colorless one.” Aoki’s eyebrows shot up and he blinked a couple of times before clearing his throat and nodding.

“Right, well, It’s time for the daily Q&A” He said, taking a seat on the rolly chair next to the bed Toga was climbing back into. “Let's see if we can jog that memory some more. We’ll start with names and faces and then go on to events.”

Aoki held up a photo of a boy with green black hair, a goofy smile and bright green eyes. Toga’s stomach flipped.

“Izuku Midoriya. I don’t remember all his powers, but strength and speed. Hero” She said confidently. How could she forget him? The boy who looked like Saito. How could she ever forget the first boy she had ever attacked. It’s not that she wanted to hurt him. He was already covered in beautiful blood from the fight he had gotten in… How was it her fault that that sight sent her hormones crazy and made her crave his blood even more? She couldn’t control that, even if she had wanted to. Not that she had. Though she guessed hindsight was 20/20, she maybe wouldn’t have done that same thing now… not after…

A flicker of a memory, of Ochako’s face bloodied, the background zooming past them as Ochako’s mouth opened to say something –

Another image was held up. This time of a woman near her own age, auburn hair cut into a fierce bob, auburn eyes and pink cheeks that look like they had just been pinched by an old grandma.

“Ochako.” she said, her voice breathy yet surprisingly strong. “Ochako Uraraka. Levitation. Hero.” She wouldn’t take her eyes off the image, hell she wanted to push everything out of her way and rip that photo from his hands. She didn’t know exactly why her stomach felt like flipping or that the world was on its head any time she saw Ochako. Sure, she had always had a little crush on the other girl, but this was different. It felt bigger. She had been told that she had saved Ochako’s life, giving her own blood away to save the bleeding woman. Toga remembered nothing of the sort, and it didn’t sound like her, but the proof was in the news.

The hero had been on the news, in the papers, really anywhere anyone would listen, talking about how to help people like… her. She told some fantastical story of Toga saving her and sacrificing herself. It matched up with what the doctors said, but in Toga’s mind it just… didn’t sound right. It didn’t sound like her. But… then again, she had lost five months of memories.

“I don’t remember that person’s name.”  she muttered looking at the new image Aoki was holding up, of a man with long black hair looking as if he had just woken up from a rumpelstiltskin style nap. There were bags under his eyes and tension bracketing his lips. “Eraserhead? I think? He can stop quirks right?” She asked, “Hero.” Aoki nodded and held up another.

Before her was an image of a man a couple years older than herself, with hair so pale blue it was almost white, his face was covered in tiny little scars from where he had scratched himself raw. Lips chapped, and bright red eyes .

“Tomura Shiguraki. Decay. Villain.” She rolled her eyes at the last word but let it go. Seeing Shiguraki made her smile brightly. He was a strange dude but she had grown to like him! Sure at first he thought she was a weird little freak, but he was too and she loved him for it! If she was honest with herself… Shiguraki was like the cool older brother who would have protected her if they had actually grown up together. How she wished that had been the case….

The next image appeared. This one made her smile fall instantly.

“Hawks. Flight. Villain.” She said without a moment’s hesitation. Before her was the photo of a man with wind blown blonde hair, a goofy smile , yellow glasses sat on his head along with headphones dangling from his neck. Red wings could just barely be glimpsed in the photo.

“You remember Hawks as a villain?” He asked.

Toga nodded, “He killed my best friend. He joined us as a villain. But I guess to you guys he’s a hero.” She said, her arms crossing over her chest as she turned her head to look out the window. Aoki took the moment to write something down, the sound of the pen scratching against the paper made her frustrated.

“Last time you saw Hawk’s face you didn’t remember him. It might be a wrong conclusion- ” Toga scoffed, interrupting him, but Aoki continued on “- but that is a flicker of light. A sign you’re healing and sooner or later maybe you will be back to full memory. That’s a fantastic improvement. Let’s continue.”
