Cragen had just walked downstairs to see his two troublemakers running through the living room. He put his arms out and caught Olivia. Elliot immediately slid on his socks to avoid crashing into her.
“Woah there, munchkins! What are you two doing?”
“We’re detectives, Daddy!” Olivia smiled.
“Yeah? Are my detectives supposed to be running in the house?”
“No, Daddy.”
“No, Dad,” Elliot echoed, looking down at the floor.
“That’s right. If you two want to run you can go in the backyard.”
“Okay! Come on, El, maybe we can find more clues in the backyard!” Olivia dragged her brother to get their shoes on.
“What are you two investigating anyway?” Cragen wondered.
“Who ate the last cookie! Me and Liv were gonna share it after our nap.”
“Mhmm! We think Sprocket ate it,” Olivia held up the stuffed dog, “but he has an a-ab—”
“Alibi, Liv.”
“That.”
Elliot took Olivia’s hand and led her to the backyard. “Maybe we’ll find a new suspect or witnesses outside! I think I left some of my action figures by the swings earlier....”
Cragen smiled as he watched the two run around the backyard playing detectives. Even when they’re supposed to be regressing and relaxing, those two could never turn off this part of themselves.
The oven beeped, which Cragen was grateful for. Hopefully a new batch of cookies would make them forget this investigation so they don’t figure out it was him who ate the last cookie.
