Work Text:
"I had made another embarrassment of myself."
She thought to herself as she ran her hands through her damp hair, standing in the shower. Staring down at the drain, she sighed as her shoulders tensed up from her own thoughts.
A bit after the shower, she changed into a purple toned grayish sweater and a skirt. She walked over to her station area, where she usually had worked on her blueprints. She climbed up the books she used to make herself taller.
Paisley stood at the desk, looking at the plans she made earlier this week. She glared at them, crumbling them up in anger as she groaned.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid-"
"Hey.."
She turned as she heard the door creak open, seeing her husband staring at her with worry on his face. "You..you okay hun?" It was apparent in his voice too. Paisley sighed in response, waving her hand dismissively. "I'm okay Rex. It's—it's just work." She turned her face towards her destroyed work, gripping it harder in her hand as it shook.
Throwing it in the trash can next to her desk, she heard footsteps approaching her. Rex peaked over her head, seeing her hands shaking almost violently. "Hey hey-" He gently grabbed her arms from behind. "You're shaking Pais." "It's fine—" "It's not!" Paisley almost jumped from the sudden change of tone in his voice.
"I don't- you do this a lot. You get stressed out to the point where you get so upset that you end up hurting yourself!"
Paisley shook her head, turning around as she put her hands on her hips. "How so?" "You don't sleep a lot for days, and when you do—it's only a few hours! You don't—.." He paused, letting out a sigh of what seemed to be sadness as he played with the sleeves of his shirt. Paisley crossed her arms, looking down at the ground before spinning back around.
Rex got closer, placing a small kiss on her shoulder and wrapping his arms around her waist. "Just come to bed Pais. It's late and I don't want you stressing yourself out to the point where you get hurt." He pressed his face into her shoulder.
Paisley rolled her eyes, yet still felt a tinge of guilt for making him feel bad.
"Fine." She quietly let out, her head hanging low as she grabbed one of his hands with hers, intertwining their fingers together. "Only because I don't like seeing you upset." "Really?" Rex lifted his face from her shoulder, looking up at her as one of his hands went to her chin.
Paisley went to look at his face, seeing a soft smile form onto it. She let out a small "mhm" before pressing her lips against his. Rex happily kissed her back for a quick second before pulling away. "I just want you to be alright.." Paisley let out a small squeak as he placed a small kiss on her neck.
She yawned right after, making her realize Rex was right.
She pressed another kiss to his lips for about a few seconds before stepping down from the pile of books she had stacked, letting Rex lead her over to their bedroom. "I know we've both had a long day, just get some rest hon.." She quietly groaned in response. Paisley didn't even realize how tired she was until Rex had pointed it out.
She was already nodding off to sleep as she climbed up onto the bed, Rex following after her. He sat on the bed, reaching over to her to take off her glasses and put it on the nightstand. He kissed her forehead, watching her lay down as she spoke.
"You don't have to do all that you know..I can handle myself just fine." Rex laughed in response, laying down next to her and scooting closer as he opened his arms. "It's fine, just come here."
Paisley hesitated for a moment before laying on her side, moving between his arms as she nuzzled her face into his neck. He wrapped his arms around her, giggling happily as her face tickled him a bit.
"What?" Her muffled voice came out, questioning the sounds coming out of her husband.
Rex pulled his head back, seeing her face. "Nothing nothing, I just—really like cuddling you." He pressed another kiss to her face before placing his chin in her hair. "Mmm.." A small sound of contentment came out of Paisley, trying to snuggle even closer than she had already been. Her arms went around his torso as her legs tangled up with his.
Rex yawned as well, shutting his eyes as he traced small circles on her back. "Tomorrow we can find a new area to pave.." Paisley's muffled voice came out once again, but it was more sleepy and groggy. Her hand reached down for the blanket, grabbing it and pulling it over both of them.
Rex went ahead and hugged her even tighter. "I love you, so, so much." He whispered before going quiet. Paisley glanced up, seeing he was practically asleep now before putting her face back into his neck. She closed her eyes, slowly falling asleep in Rex's arms. She placed her hand on his waist, softly rubbing it with her thumb.
Eventually, she fell asleep.
Paisley stirred awake, groaning. She felt something weighing her down on the bed. She looked up and saw Rex sleeping on top of her, letting her head roll back into the pillow. Moving her arm from under the man cuddling her, she shook him a bit. "Hey…hey..Rex." She whispered, trying not to wake him up too harshly.
"Rex..Rex!" As she spoke, Rex lifted his head and looked down at her with sleepy eyes before planting his face back into her neck. "Rex- you're crushing me.." Paisley stated, not meaning anything rude behind her words. She had to admit, she liked being cuddled by Rex.
It was actually kind of comfortable.
"I can move.." Rex spoke, the tiredness in his voice was obvious as he lifted up his head once more. He moved his head to the side to see her. Paisley sighed, shaking her head. "No, no, it's okay." Her arm that was free moved to wrap around his shoulder, and she moved over ever so slightly to peck his lips. Pulling away, she looked around the room. "What time is it anyways..ugh.."
Her eyes squinted as she looked at the light peeking through the curtains of their window. Rex looked over her head, seeing the clock on their nightstand. He planted his head back down as he spoke.
"7:02.." "7:02!?"
Paisley yelled out, pushing Rex off her. He fell to the other side of the bed with a thud, finally waking up fully. Paisley seemed to be rushing, about to leave the bed.
"What? Woah- Paisley." She snapped out of her panicked state, looking over at Rex. She rubbed her forehead, her hand reaching for her glasses and putting them on.
"We..sorry I just- my alarm didn't go off I was gonna start my new blueprints at 6:30.." "Pais..I thought we talked about this last night. You needed a break." Rex said, crawling towards her and resting his head against her upper back. "Please just rest a bit more. 10 more minutes that's all I want." Paisley stared down at the ground. She didn't want to admit it, but he was right.
Plus, she wanted to be at her absolute best when she did her job.
She turned around, putting her hands on Rex's face. "Fine. 10 more minutes. That's it." She kissed his nose, making him giggle. He grabbed her arm, backed up, and laid down on his back as he led Paisley closer to him. She rolled her eyes playfully, and placed her head down on his shoulder, looking up at the ceiling.
Rex's hand played with a tiny curl sticking out of Paisley's hair, his other hand moving to hold her hip.
"Honey?"
"Hm?"
"You'd tell me if something was wrong, right?"
The question caught her off guard, but nonetheless she answered. "Positive, Rex." Her hand moved to his, grazing the silver ring around his finger. She brought it up to her mouth, kissing it. "We'll start the blueprints soon." Rex nodded, turning his gaze towards her.
"Love you Pais." "..love you too Rex.”
