Our first nest

Summary:

Blankets are arranged to outline the bed's edges, forming the ‘walls’. Fluffy pillows are organised in the inner side of the blanket fort.

It was Sana's decision to bring her own pillows and blankets. Because they were already coated in her scent.

Wait, Dahyun catches a whiff of Sana's scent on her bedsheet too.

"Did you roll around on my bed...?"

Sana scratches her head. Guilty.

"I may have."

Notes:

The omegaverse elements in this fic are my own take.

Work Text:

"Sana, an alpha can build a nest too."

Newly presented, nineteen-years-young, Sana quietly stood nearby as she watched her momma build a 'demonstration nest' in her bedroom.

Growing up with two omega parents, Sana’s no stranger to nests and nesting. Her mothers often build a nest together and all three of them would cuddle inside.

Over the years as a pup, Sana enjoyed sleeping in her parents' nests. The cosy warmth of the pillow-and-blanket fort and the scents of her mothers mingling together. Sleeping in the middle and being cuddled by her mums.

Years later when she presented as an alpha, she was embraced by her mothers with open arms. Raised and nurtured by two omega moms, Sana naturally self-conditioned herself into thinking that she will present as one too.

"Have you ever thought that I would have turned out to be an omega... like the both of you?"

"Sana, deep down we knew all this while."

"You do have the softness of an omega but... the way you carry yourself and the underlying strength within you definitely makes you an alpha."

Sana preens at the praise.

Indeed, their only child is an alpha, on the physical side as well. Sana stands half a head taller than her mothers, has broad shoulders and is lean with a sharp jaw.

Alphas are generally identified with musky and smoky scents but Sana possesses none of these associations. Her scent remains light and airy with a hint of floral; alluding to her sweet and gentle nature.

And that's why her momma is getting Sana to learn how to make a nest.

"Omegas usually make their own nests but if you know how to build one, trust your mom when I say that your mate will fall even deeper for you. It's a sweet gesture for them."

Sana blushes.

"Ma-mate? I'm still too young!"

Her momma laughs as she continues to arrange the folded-up blankets on each side of Sana's bed.

"Some start forming the nest from inside, while some prefer to build the 'walls' first. It's all up to you."

Sana noticed her momma had taken two of her hoodies from the closet and laid them in the nest.

"Sana, here's a tip, an omega loves it if you leave some of your clothes in the nest. They enjoy snuggling with it and breathing in your scent."

That explained why she could always find her parents' old t-shirts nestled among the blankets in their nests.

After a short while, there's a warm and cosy nest on Sana's bed. The 'walls' are made up of folded blankets. A few pillows sat against the headboard. Within the blanket fort walls were two of Sana's hoodies and a few smaller pillows of various sizes. A blanket sits at the bottom, to be used to cover for warmth. Most of the pillows and blankets belong to her mothers.

The only thing missing in the nest is a person or two.

"There, done."

***

She met Dahyun when she was twenty-eight years old. The then twenty-two-year-old omega stood half a head shorter than her, like her moms.

Dahyun is demure and quiet. While Sana is friendly and isn't shy to say her hellos to strangers.

But what captivated and drew Sana in was her smile and her eyes. God, her eyes. They transformed into the shape of crescent moons when Dahyun laughed or smiled widely. That's a Godly combination, if you asked Sana.

The two met at a work function. Dahyun was charmed by this older alpha who kept a friendly distance (some alphas have the tendency to barge into an omega's personal space unprovoked like it's their birthright) while showing genuine interest in talking to and getting to know her.

Sana and Dahyun took an instant liking to each other and got along pretty well from then onwards. They make a well-matched pair, their differences oddly fitting together perfectly. Dahyun in her pastel sweaters and cardigans. Sana in her dark jackets and button-ups.

Sana was enchanted. Dahyun was smitten.

***

At thirty years old, Sana first approached the subject of making a nest. Not for mating!

"But for us to sleep in?"

Sana nodded. If she had a tail, it would be wagging excitedly, waiting for Dahyun's agreement to her plan.

"We could build one using your bed." Sana didn't want to overwhelm Dahyun if they are to have the nest in her room.

Dahyun has never built a nest, having yet to find a reason to do so. So when Sana brought this up, she knew her answer already. For Dahyun had found the right person to build it with.

***

Sana still remembers her lessons! Okay, so erm, does she want to build the wall first or—

Dahyun's hands are warm on her arms. Eyes looking up at hers. Sana's shoulders relax and her nervousness recedes.

"Let's go slowly, with the flow." This is our first time. We are bound to make mistakes. And we will learn along the way. Together.

Grounded, Sana nods eagerly.

Guilty.

"I may have." Her momma had missed out on teaching her what to do with the bedsheet so she is just winging it!

Dahyun laughs.

The alpha's scarf is wrapped haphazardly along the headboard. On the left bedpost is a cap hanging on for its dear life.

Blushing, Sana quickly removes those items, stashing them away, shyly and apologetically muttering that things may have gone a wee bit too "overkill". Not just that, she has even forgotten her old black sweater at home and it was Dahyun's favourite sweater because the omega loves to rub her nose against the material—

She is overthinking this.

And while she has been standing there muddling on matters not of importance, Dahyun is busy making herself comfortable in her own be— nest.

Now all she needs is just Sana.

The two lay in the nest side-by-side, fully-clothed. Piles of blankets and pillows surround them.

"Is this overwhelming?" The pillows, blankets and Sana herself. Her scent. Am I overwhelming?

Dahyun responds by planting herself onto Sana's side, her nose nuzzles against her alpha's neck. Her arms going around Sana's shoulders, tugging the alpha closer to her. Greedily drinking in her scent. She would be purring in contentment if she physically could.

Sana wraps an arm around her omega while her other hand moves downwards. Going underneath Dahyun's shirt for more skin-to-skin contact. Palm stroking smooth bare skin. Sweet honey notes mingle with Sana’s own scent.

"There, done. Our first nest.”
