Work Text:
Standing in a room of the Yaoyorozu mansion that was nearly as large as the entirety of his old apartment, Izuku Midoriya felt VERY out of place. Over the past ten minutes, his entire body had been measured, his hair had been trimmed down, and he’d been dressed in a dark green suit that bordered on black, and his iconic red shoes had been replaced with polished brown leather dress shoes. His tie had even been tied correctly! Izuku thought back to the moment that had led up to this evening.
About a week earlier
Class had just gotten out for the day, and Izuku was just packing his things up, when Class 1-A’s vice-president and so-called “class mom” (by Hagakure and Ashido at least), Momo Yaoyorozu, approached his desk.
“Midoriya, I have an offer for you.”
Izuku immediately went into panic mode. ‘What did Momo want with me? Wouldn’t she be better off going to Todoroki or Iida? Maybe even Shoji or Koda?’ he thought to himself.
Unfortunately, it seems that he’d been muttering again, as Momo spoke up.
“Iida and Todoroki are unavailable, and I don’t think Shoji or Koda would want to go to this sort of event.”
Izuku threw his arms over his face as he tried to hide his blush. “S-Sorry, I was muttering again, wasn’t I?”
Momo covered her mouth as she let out a small giggle, “No worries, Midoriya, in fact, your muttering is kind of adorable in a way.” Izuku’s face was the color of a ripe tomato. The heiress tucked the small strand of hair that usually hung on the right side of her face behind her ear. “You see, next Saturday, my parents are holding a big dance to attempt to procure some deals with some companies overseas.” She fidgeted a bit before continuing, muttering: “And I need a plus one, they insisted.”
Izuku blinked once. Then twice. “Again, why me? There have got to be better choices from either hero course, maybe even from the general-”
“No.”
Izuku paused as Momo interrupted him, “Midoriya, you can’t deny that in the last few months we’ve grown closer as friends, yes?”
Izuku thought about it for a few seconds. It was true, after the Kamino Incident and rescuing Bakugo together, he and Momo had grown closer, as two of the smartest students in 1-A, they had taken up tutoring their friends that weren’t doing well academically, like Ashido and Kaminari. And in between study sessions, he and Momo would have quiet moments just being together, where the heiress would make them some calming tea and they’d sit down at the dorm common room table. And he couldn’t deny that he’d developed somewhat of a crush on her.
Blushing, Izuku responded. “Y-Yes, you’re not wrong.”
Momo smiled. “Well, I thought you’d be the best option since the rest of the guys in our class are busy. So, what do you say?”
Izuku took a few more seconds to deliberate on that, before responding, “A-Alright, I’ll d-do it, but don’t I need a suit?”
Momo smiled a little mischievously. “Oh, don’t worry about that part, the tailors will have you covered.”
Present day
Moving his limbs around a little bit more to get them used to being in the oddly comfortable suit, Izuku jumped a bit when the big double doors that led out to the main hall opened up and one of the butlers waltzed in.
“Mr. Midoriya?” The butler asked with a vaguely French accent. “I am here to take you to the ballroom where the party will begin shortly.”
Izuku brushed a small bit of hair off of his suit before steeling himself. “Alright, lead the way.”
As he and the butler made their way into the ballroom, he pulled a notebook out of who knows where, getting an eyebrow raise from the butler. Class 1-A's resident green bean started muttering, ‘Is it even possible to portray a French accent in Japanese, it seems impossible!’
Ironically, he was in the middle of reading Momo's page in his notebook when the butler called out to him.
“Eh, Mr. Midoriya? We are here.”
Izuku glanced up from his notebook and looked around, realizing he was on the upper balcony portion of the ballroom, looking down at the main floor, where around fifty tables had been set up in a ring around a dancefloor, as well as a sizable refreshment table down and to the left. “Oh, thanks, heh, I didn't notice…”
Izuku trailed off as he looked down the stairs to the main floor of the room to see Momo Yaoyorozu standing there in all her glory.
Momo glanced up the stairs, noticing her plus one, and moved toward him as best she could on her heels.
“Midoriya, hi! I must say, that suit fits you quite well.”
Said boy was at a loss for words. Momo's hair wasn't in her usual ponytail but in a long braid over her shoulder, shining like she had just put moisturizer in it. She was wearing a deep red dress not too far off from the color of her hero suit, the entirety of her chest covered up besides a heart in the center. Her shoulders were also exposed and she was wearing high heels.
Izuku forced himself to look at Momo's face, all while his face was the color of an overripe tomato. “Uh, uh, uh…” he babbled on a bit before taking a small breath and composing himself, “thanks for the compliment, Yaoyorozu, uh you look beau- I mean, you look nice as well.”
Momo's face lit up in a light blush as he complimented her. “Why thank you, Midoriya, they picked a very nice color for your suit.”
Izuku began sweating slightly as Momo took his hand and led him toward her parents. As the night continued, Izuku mostly stuck to Momo's side, sitting with her and eating appetizers and drinking sparkling grape juice. Eventually, Izuku did get used to seeing Momo like this, and was able to hold normal conversations with her.
Finally, at the end of the night, it came time for the final dance of the evening. Mr. Yaoyorozu got up on the stage with a microphone.
“I thank you all for coming out tonight to this prestigious event. I hope more than one relationship will be formed tonight, whether that be professional or personal” He winked in Izuku's direction, and the boy threw his arms in front of his face as he blushed. Momo, of course, giggled lightly, hiding a blush of her own.
“And to end off the night, I'd like to introduce the pro hero Present Mic to DJ this final song for us!”
A door on the far end of the room from Izuku and Momo slammed open as smoke poured from the opening, and soon after that, Present Mic came strolling in.
“Hey hey hey, listeners! How are we doing tonight?” The Voice Hero's call out was met with silence from the crowd.
Momo used her quirk to make a speaker and started pumping cricket noises through it while Izuku coughed loudly into his fist. The two students giggled to themselves at their joke.
“...OK… tough crowd!” Present Mic relented and crossed to the balcony where the DJ turntable was situated. After Mic got set up and ready, he announced: “Alright, the final song of the night comes from one of the biggest pre-quirk musicians, one of the coolest gingers I know, Ed Sheeran and his song, "Perfect”!”
Momo turned to Izuku, a small blush on her face. “Would you dance with me, Izuku?”
Izuku's face erupted into a blush. “U-Uh, I suppose so, Yaoyorozu, but-”
“Momo.”
“H-Huh?”
“I want you to call me Momo.”
“Then I-I suppose you can call me Izuku. But, I don't know how to dance.”
The heiress smiled. “Don't worry, I can teach you.” Momo reached for his hand, leading him out onto the dance floor as Mic started the song up.
“I found a love for me
Darling, just dive right in and follow my lead
Well, I found a girl, beautiful and sweet
Oh, I never knew you were the someone waitin' for me”
As Ed started singing the first verse, Momo guided Izuku's right hand to her hip and his left to her shoulder as she did the same to him. At the contact with her hip, Izuku’s face once again exploded into a blush as he attempted to shrink himself to hide away from the crowd. Momo giggled again. “Izuku, Kodai isn’t here, she can’t shrink you.”
Izuku nervously laughed at that as the song entered the pre-chorus.
“'Cause we were just kids when we fell in love
Not knowin' what it was
I will not give you up this time”
As Ed sang the pre-chorus and the two students danced around in a slow circle, Momo looked down slightly at her dance partner and smiled sweetly at him. “So, Izuku, is there something you want to tell me?”
Izuku’s face changed expressions multiple times in a few seconds. First confusion, then shock, then embarrassment. “Uh, no, Yao-uh, Momo, I don’t have anything to tell you.”
Momo chuckled softly and booped the green bean on the nose. “Izuku, your drive to be a hero has inspired me more than you realize. I love your muttering, even if other people find it creepy. Your caring nature for your classmates and your drive to lift them up as well.”
Izuku’s green eyes widened to the size of dinner plates. “Wha-wait, what do you mean?”
Momo leaned in and kissed him on the forehead. “I love you, Izuku Midoriya.”
Izuku’s eyes started watering slightly as he replied, “I… I love you too, Momo.”
The two of them kissed and danced to the song until Ed sang the last few words of the chorus.
“An angel in person and she looks perfect
I don't deserve this, you look perfect tonight”
