Phil's Philanthropic Pheats

Summary:

Phil has not been pheeling phantastic lately. He's been distraught watching the horrible ICE raids and attrocities that are happening on the main land and he can't bare to watch. He knows it's his duty to help as the most perfect bird alive but his beautiful brain can't seem to think of something. Combined with Julian's well intentioned ignorance he doesn't know what do. Will he find a way to help his fellow villagers or will he give in and join Julian in the beatiful land of cognitive dissonance?

Or: The animal crossing villager Phil hates ICE and is dating the other villager Julian
(if you see this and are confused I'm sorry)

Chapter 1: Phil's Phears

Chapter Text

Phil stares down at his nook-phone in disgust, back on the mainland ICE has been committing atrocities left and right. He shakes his head and shuts his phone off. Julian walks into the room with a solemn expression and places his hoof on Phil's shoulder.

"Darling I told you to stop looking at that stuff, it just makes you sad," he says tenderly as reaches up to adjust Phil's tie.

Phil tenses and pushes Julian away. "You don't get it! It's not fair to look away, the people who live there can't to afford to do it so why should I?" He crosses his arms and stares out the window. The beautiful waves of Philville help calm him down but the underlying distress stays.

This has been a re-occurring argument between the two men recently; he knows Julian means well but these issues are important to him. He's the best bird on the island, and if you're the best you need to have evidence to back it up. The thing is, he doesn't have any evidence here. He feels utterly powerless in the face of the mainland's current administration; how could one beautiful bird like him possibly make a difference?

"Phil.." Julian sighs but steps back to give his boyfriend some space. "You can't fix the world's problems, no matter how amazing you are. You've been distant lately, even Naomi has started to worry." Phil grimaces at Naomi's name, he doesn't know why but he just has this gut instinct to hate her.

Julian chuckles but continues on. "Yes, I know you don't like her, but doesn't it say something that despite the conflict between you two, she's taken notice of your problems?"

Phil's gaze hardens and his pheather's puff up. "My problems?"

Julian scoffs; he loves his beautiful, perfect boyfriend, but he's so stubborn sometimes. "You know that's not what I meant."

"Do I? I'm not sure if I even know you based on how apathetic you've been!"

"Apathetic? It's called being realistic, Phil! I hate it as much as you do, but there's nothing me or you can do. It's best to just focus on the island and things we can control."

Phil shakes his head, he can't believe Julian is acting like this. Although, secretly, he thinks he might be right…it really does seem like there's nothing he can do-

No, he can't think this way, he'll figure something out. There has to be something he can do, those people don't deserve what they're going through, and how can he call himself "The most beautiful and perphect bird" if he can't be perphect at helping people. "I'm going out, I think I need some space from you right now."

If he could wear shoes this would be moment that he grabbed them and placed them on his pheet, alas, he cannot. He steps outside and takes a deep breath, letting the ocean air fill his lungs before exhaling and imagining all of his stress leaving with it. He wanders around the island aimlessly before stopping in front of the museum, maybe a nice cup of cophee and a listening ear from Brewster will help clear his head.
