Camp

Summary:

Belle and Adam enjoy a warm summer evening.

Notes:

Day 3, prompt: "camp"

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Belle looked out from the balcony. It was a warm summer evening, and the sky was clear and full of stars. The moon had set a little earlier, and now the starlight only had to compete with the light from the candles inside.

“It’s almost midnight,” Adam said.

“It’s so beautiful tonight,” Belle said. “I wish we didn’t have to go inside.”

“Would you rather camp outside?” he asked.

Belle looked over.  “I don’t know if sleeping outside would be very comfortable.”

“Well, perhaps we could move a sofa out here? What do you think of that?”

“Really?” Belle asked.

“We just have to ask,” he said.

Belle agreed, and Adam went inside to make the request. Several servants appeared, carrying one of the sofas out to the balcony, and one of the maids brought out a blanket for them.

“Thank you,” Belle said to them. “But I really wasn’t expecting-”

The servants quietly insisted it was fine.

“They’ve brought it out,” Adam said. “We should enjoy it now.”

They sat on the sofa, and he wrapped the blanket around her shoulders.  She leaned on his shoulder, listening to the crickets and frogs in the woods.  The wolves were quiet now, having retreated further into the mountains after the curse was lifted. She felt warm and safe.

Notes:

Day 3... I thought about doing the other prompt, "canon divergence" but I'm not quite ready for that with Beauty and the Beast.
