He Doesn't Like Coffee

Summary:

Logan is put in charge of training a new employee at the coffee shop and he doesn't hate it.

Notes:

I've been reminded of my love for Logince. I actually never forgot it, but I've been in so many different fandoms that it's nice to go back to one of my originals. Also tags are to be updated as I go because I plan my fics poorly if at all.

Chapter 1: Double Cross

Chapter Text

Logan unlocked the front door of the coffee shop and got to work immediately. He was supposed to be opening with Remus, but he knew that Remus would most likely be late. He preferred opening with Virgil or Patton the few times that they were scheduled for the first shift. Logan had begun to think that the store’s owner, Janus, made the schedule the way it was exclusively to mess with him.

Once everything was set up, Logan made himself a cup of coffee. He naturally woke up early and wasn’t tired, but his first cup was always the worst, so he might as well drink it himself.

Remus stumbled in four minutes before opening. “I’m here!”

“I see that.” Logan sipped his coffee. “What’s your reason for being late this time? Did your razor scooter break down?”

“No, my twin brother is staying with me since he got an acting job in the area. He has this wonderful habit of singing late at night and making it impossible to sleep.” Remus explained.

“I didn’t know you had a twin.” Logan put his cup down.

Remus shrugged. “He’s always off auditioning. We were never close anyway.”

“Fraternal or identical?” Logan asked.

“Fraternal, but people say we look really similar.” Remus poorly tied his apron.

Logan nodded. “Will he ever come here?”

Remus shook his head. “No way. He’s angry enough that he’s living with me. There’s no way he would ever come to where I work.”

After a few hours, Virgil came in. “Hey, Remus, there’s some guy down the street who looks like you if you washed your hair and shaved.”

“That’s not possible.” Remus walked over to a window. “Roman hates coffee.”

Virgil put his coat in the back room. “Roman?”

Logan looked up from the table he was cleaning. “Is that your twin’s name?”

“Yes, but that’s not important. I don’t know why he’s here.” Remus kept looking out of the window.

“Is there something wrong with him? Why are you so freaked out?” Virgil asked.

“That insufferable diva hates coffee. Something must be wrong with him if he’s walking to a coffee shop.” Remus answered.

A few minutes later, a tall man in a white tshirt, jeans, and a red jacket walked in. He waved at Remus and pulled a phone out of his pocket. “You left your phone on the counter.”

“Oh, thank you.” Remus coldly took the phone.

Logan walked over to the counter, knocking into a chair on the way. “Do you want to order anything?”

“A hot chocolate would be great.” Roman pulled out his wallet.

“What size?” Logan asked.

“Medium.” Roman said before he tapped his card.

Logan made the drink and handed it over to Roman. He took the drink and quickly thanked Logan before leaving. Logan went back to cleaning tables while he waited for more customers to come. Virgil walked over to the computer behind the counter and glanced between the screen and Logan. “Hey, L, you did that last transaction wrong.”

“What do you mean?” Logan stopped for a moment.

Virgil fidgeted with his apron strings. “You gave Roman a medium but charged him for a small.”

Logan froze. “No, there’s no way I did that.”

“Either I suddenly need glasses or you charged Roman incorrectly." Virgil insisted.

“Mr. Perfect messed up, hallelujah!” Remus shouted from the back room.

Virgil stifled a laugh. “And you walked into that chair. You’re all over the place today.”

“At least I’ve never eaten a cookie off the ground after it was stepped on!” Logan shouted back to Remus.

“It was worth it!” Remus poked his head out.

The next day, Logan showed up to work at noon and was greeted by Patton. “Logan! Don’t rush, it’s a slow day.”

“Good morning, Patton.” Logan nodded.

Patton put some money in the register before taking a cookie from the display case. “Did anything interesting happen yesterday?”

“Aparently Remus has a twin.” Logan shrugged.

“Really? It’s odd that Remus never mentioned that.” Patton took a bite of the cookie.

“Yeah, it seems like Remus really doesn’t like him.” Logan responded.

As if talking about him had summoned him, Roman walked in. He came up to the counter and smiled. “Just a medium hot chocolate, please.”

Logan froze for a second, so Patton put the order into the computer. “You look familiar.”

“You work with my brother, Remus.” Roman explained. “I’m Roman. I don’t think I got your name yesterday, Specs.”

Logan snapped back to reality. “Logan, and this is Patton.”

“Can I ask you something?” Roman suddenly dropped his voice.

“I don’t see why not.” Logan answered.

Roman glanced around as if he were checking for spies. “Do you think this place is hiring?”

“I don’t know, but Remus said you had an acting job nearby. Why would you want to work here?” Logan saw Patton walk away out of the corner of his eye.

“I’m an aspiring actor, but the local theater doesn’t pay enough to be financially stable. My brother doesn’t like the idea of me working with him though.” Roman looked away.

Logan suddenly remembered the large coffee he had chugged before coming to work as his heart started racing. He knew it was more caffeine than he was used to, but he hadn’t expected it to hit him so hard. “I’ll check with the owner about it.”

“And don’t mention this to Remus.” Roman added.

“That’s ridiculous. He’ll find out if you start working here.” Logan rolled his eyes.

Roman crossed his arms. “Well aren’t you Mr. Perfect. Do you have a better plan?”

Logan fixed his glasses. “Just tell him.”

“It’s not that simple.” Roman fought back.

Logan sighed. “You have my silence on the matter, but I still think that this is an absurd plan.”

Patton walked back over and handed Roman a cup. “Here you go!”

“Thank you, hopefully I’ll see you both again soon.” Roman said before leaving.

Patton waited until Roman was out of the store before he started talking. “He’s not what I expected.”

“Me neither.” Logan agreed.

“I wouldn’t mind him working here.” Patton added.

“Yeah, me too.” Logan absentmindedly agreed again.

Patton placed the back of his hand on Logan’s forehead. “Are you feeling okay?”

“I’m fine. I just had a little bit too much caffeine this morning.” Logan shook him off.

Patton squinted at him. “If you say so, but you can go sit down if you need to.”

“I’ll be okay, but thank you.” Logan walked away.

“Suprise!” Roman threw the front door of the coffee shop open.

Logan and Janus glanced at each other and Logan whispered to him. “Why didn't you tell me you hired someone?”

“He was insistent on having a grand entrance.” Janus whispered back.

Roman walked over to Janus and Logan. “Aren’t you excited to see me?”

“I’m certainly surprised. We’ve only met a few times.” Logan answered.

“Well, we’re going to meet a lot of times now!” Roman proudly puffed his chest slightly.

Janus cut in. “And, Logan, you’re going to have to train Roman.”

Logan took a breath. “Right, and I’m completely fine with not being warned about that.”

Janus ignored Logan’s sarcasm. “And I greatly appreciate that. Roman, there are aprons in the back.”

Logan lowered his voice as Roman walked away. “I understand that you own this place, but why did nobody else know about this?”

“Remus and Patton knew.” Janus shrugged before walking away.

“But I didn’t.” Logan raised his voice slightly.

“Is everything good?” Roman walked back out.

Logan waved his hand dismissively. “Yeah, everything is fine. I’m going to buy myself a coffee and show you how the computer system works.”

“What kind of coffee?” Roman asked.

“Just a black coffee.” Logan told him.

Roman frowned. “That’s so boring. You should get yourself something fun.”

“And what is your definition of something fun?” Logan opened the drink list on the computer.

“Maybe a mocha.” Roman pointed to the screen.

Logan briefly bit the inside of his mouth. “Sure, I’ll get a mocha. Just tap the drink name and it’ll ask you for the type of milk. Once you put that in, you can either tap another drink or just finish the transaction.”

“That seems easy enough.” Roman nodded.

After explaining the computer system, Logan showed Roman how to make a mocha. He took a sip and furrowed his eyebrows. “It’s sweeter than I usually like, but I don’t hate it.”

“I still think you should have added more sugar.” Roman crossed his arms.

Logan rolled his eyes and walked away. He tapped a few buttons on the computer before grabbing a cup and making a drink. He walked back over to Roman and handed it to him. “Thank you for listening to me explain everything.”

“Don’t tell Patton, but you make a better hot chocolate than him.” Roman fake whispered.

“I know, but thank you.” Logan fake whispered back.
