Work Text:
Regret was a powerful thing. Anger was a poison that seeped into the veins of anyone who dared to drink from its source. She knew all about that. She had once drank desperately from the pools of anger that had clouded her mind. She'd been a monster. A beast of savage nature that only knew how to kill and eat and destroy. When she had become free, removed from the haze that drowned her every waking moment, she felt nothing but regret. She had been a prisoner in her own mind, and she could do nothing more than watch idly as her body acted against her own will.
Freedom was a bitter taste in her mouth. But she was grateful to be herself again, well.. not herself, something different. Her friend thought she was the same, despite the horns that grew from her head and the fangs that were in her mouth. She gave a low whine as she nuzzled against Noob's side. Her arms were entwined around her waist, her size dwarfing Noob.
"Friend.. no leave.." She grumbled, her voice wrong yet it was her own. It was so foreign to her. She wasn't meant to be talking, nature denied it. Yet she found her ways, and she wouldn't ever let herself be quiet again.
She pressed her face into Noob's side, claws curling around them as she held them close. She was scared of her own claws. She felt the way Noob squirmed in her grasp, a low whine being pulled from her. She didn't want to hurt her friend, her only friend. Noob was the only one who refused to run away from her. Even when she'd torn them apart time and time again, thirsting for their blood to satiate an endless hunger that gnawed at her insides. If she so chose, she could just lay on Noob. Trap them. Keep them. Never run away. By her at all time. But that would be cruel.
They had both escaped imprisonment, it'd be wrong to trap her friend again. Noobs fingers weaved through the course fur around her neck, a soft trill being pulled from her throat. It was nice to be loved. It was nice to have someone look through the claws and fur and teeth and see her. Noob didn't see a monster under the fur, they saw their friend. And that's all she ever wanted. All she ever wanted was to be seen. To be wanted. To be needed.
"It's alright, Sixer. I'm not going anywhere." Noob said, their voice as gentle and kind as it always had been.
Noob never yelled. Or well, they did when the very flesh of their body was torn apart, but at her? Never. They never yelled at her. Maybe that's why she clung so desperately to what little kindness had been shown to her. When she had been freed of the clouds in her mind, everyone hated her. Everyone called her a monster. A beast who had nothing but a thirst for blood. Yet her throat did not thirst for it anymore. She tried to explain this, but they would not listen. Noob was the only one who stood up for her. Noob cared. She just wished she could tell them how much she cared about them.
She had a mouth now. A real working mouth. Yet she could not get the words to come. She defied nature and gave herself the ability to speak, yet the fear of it all prevented from the words truly forming. Her own voice was not her own in most times. All she could do was coo, trill, growl. Was she truly not a monster anymore, or had it just gone dormant within her body? She chose not to think about it, lest the tears burn her face once more.
"St....ay....." She croaked out, lifting her gaze to stare at Noob with those pathetic eyes they loved so much.
"I wouldn't dream of leaving you." Noob responded, that kind smile on their face that they had had one their face when they first met back then.
She never wanted to lose that smile. That smile had brought her so much joy in such dark times. That smile kept her going. That smile was worth living for.
