Work Text:
The sun had long set over Los Angeles, leaving behind a canvas of stars twinkling in the night sky. Inside their cozy apartment, the soft glow of a lamp illuminated the living room where Buck and Eddie is lying together after a grueling day at work. The sounds of the city outside faded into a gentle hum, creating a peaceful atmosphere around them.
Buck flopped down onto the couch, letting out a deep sigh. “What a day,” he said, running a hand through his tangled hair. Eddie followed suit, sinking into the cushions beside him. The weight of their responsibilities as firefighters weighed heavily on their shoulders, but in this moment, they could let it all go.
Eddie chuckled softly, shaking his head. “You say that every day, Buck.” He leaned back, stretching out his legs. The faint scent of Buck’s cologne mixed with the aroma of takeout they had shared earlier, creating a comforting familiarity.
“Yeah, but today was different,” Buck replied, his voice playful yet laced with exhaustion. “We had that crazy rescue at the mall, remember? I thought we were going to be stuck in that elevator forever!”
Eddie nodded, a smile creeping onto his lips as he recalled the chaos of the day. “You were the one who insisted on taking the stairs. I still don’t know how you thought that was a good idea,” he teased, nudging Buck with his elbow.
Buck laughed, the sound warm and infectious. “Okay, maybe I wasn’t thinking straight. But we made it out, right? And everyone is safe.” He turned to Eddie, his expression shifting to something more tender. “That’s what matters.”
Eddie met his gaze, his heart swelling with appreciation for the man beside him. They had been through so much together, and in moments like this, it was easy to forget the chaos of their jobs. “You’re right. We did good today,” he said softly.
As the silence settled between them, Buck shifted closer, instinctively seeking the warmth of Eddie’s body. Eddie didn’t hesitate to wrap an arm around Buck’s shoulders, pulling him in for a comforting embrace. It felt natural, like they were two pieces of a puzzle fitting perfectly together.
“I could get used to this,” Buck murmured, resting his head against Eddie’s chest. The steady rhythm of Eddie’s heartbeat was soothing, a reminder that they were safe and sound at home.
Eddie chuckled softly, his fingers gently stroking Buck’s hair. “You mean cuddling on the couch after a long day? I think we’ve already established that this is our thing.”
“Yeah, but it never gets old,” Buck replied, his voice muffled against Eddie’s shirt. “It’s like my own personal therapy session.”
Eddie smiled, his heart warming at the thought. “Well, I’m glad to be your therapist,” he said playfully. “But I charge by the hour.”
Buck looked up, his blue eyes sparkling with mischief. “I’ll pay you in pizza and movie nights,” he quipped, earning a laugh from Eddie.
“Deal,” Eddie said, his smile fading into a more serious expression. “But seriously, Buck, I’m always here for you. You know that, right?”
Buck nodded, feeling the weight of Eddie’s words. “I know. And I appreciate it more than you know.” He shifted slightly, looking up at Eddie with a soft gaze. “You mean a lot to me.”
Eddie’s heart raced at the sincerity in Buck’s eyes. “You mean a lot to me too,” he replied, his voice steady. The connection between them deepened in that moment, and it felt like the world outside faded away.
As they settled into a comfortable silence, Buck reached for the remote, flipping on the television. A familiar show played in the background, but neither of them paid much attention to it. Instead, they found comfort in each other’s presence, the warmth of their bodies creating a cocoon of safety.
After a while, Buck shifted again, pulling his legs up onto the couch and curling into Eddie’s side. Eddie tightened his hold, feeling the tension of the day melt away. “You know, I could really get used to this,” Buck murmured again, his voice barely above a whisper.
“Me too,” Eddie replied, his heart full. “Just us, together, away from everything else.” He pressed a soft kiss to the top of Buck’s head, feeling the weight of the day lift as they surrendered to the moment.
As the night wore on, they talked about everything and nothing, sharing stories and laughter that echoed softly in the dim light. Buck’s playful banter filled the air, while Eddie’s steady presence grounded him, creating a balance that felt effortless.
Eventually, the conversation faded and they found themselves lost in the comfort of each other.
