Eddie decided this at precisely 2:13 a.m., staring at his ceiling while the city outside hummed like it didn’t care about personal crises. Which, to be fair, it didn’t. The ceiling fan ticked in a steady rhythm that sounded suspiciously like idiot, idiot, idiot, and Eddie considered getting up just to argue with it.
Because here was the problem: Eddie Diaz—grown man, veteran, paramedic, father, person who had once jumped out of a moving helicopter without hesitation—had developed feelings.
