Summary
Things complicated very quickly after the flayed years. And there was an unspoken understanding about that. Though, Mike wished they did talk about it. He doesn’t know what he would even say. There was so much ground they needed to cover.
Or did they. They had more conversations with eye contact rather than real words. Which, Mike couldn’t tell was good or not. Nevertheless, now there was an uncomfortable distance. An extra inch that’s been there for a little too long.
And what’s weird about it is that Mike’s friendships with the others are fine. Normal as they can qualify as. Despite all the battles and all the shared trauma, they’re as good as they can be.
But there’s always an undertone with Will. Now more so than ever.
Now they are old. Or what constituted as old in their younger years. Mike reluctantly digging through college applications while the others cram in extracurriculars at school. It was another stress separate from the end of the world. And somehow worse.
And Will was this newfound constant. Or Mike finally realized he was. Ever since he came out, he was this beautiful, new person. Not that he hasn’t always been beautiful. Mike’s brain stutters.
