Chapter Text
Dream had never questioned much about the world.
There was here, and then there was the rest of the world. He’d never had any interest in it. Why leave? He’d been told growing up that Dretearia was the only good place in the world, and he believed it.
Only once had he ever questioned it, in the midst of one of his training sessions.
“Techno,” He had mused, “Have you ever been.. Outside? Like, outside the kingdom.” It was a dangerous thing to ask about, he’d later learn. He never got an answer, and Technoblade seemed to be a lot tenser the rest of the day.
He supposed SOMETHING had to be out there. But who really cared? He had everything he needed here. Food, home, his sister.. He was even a high-ranking guard. His feelings on that were positive, yet there were a few downsides. For one, the kings were.. Odd, to say the least, both having similar looks in their eyes that told you things you didn’t want to know, despite not understanding what it was in the first place. Second, Techno was sort of terrifying. Sure, he was extremely cool.. And almost an older brother to Dream.. But he had evidently been through things that hurt.
It was a daily thing, this training. Techno had been the higher-up assigned to him, which absolutely delighted Dream when he was first told. There had always been a rumor that Techno had destroyed an entire nation once, and Dream believed it. Over time, though, he did figure out that Techno was.. Kind of boring. He could fight extremely well, but never talked about where he learned it.
An announcement had been made that day.
“Sooo, Techno, did you hear another kingdom’s comin’ to check us out?” 50/50 chance Techno was paying attention..
“Hm..?- Oh. Right. Who hasn’t heard..” Usual mumbled response. Techno couldn’t hold conversations very well. No practice today due to the news, so the two didn’t have much to do but think. Or talk to each other, a slightly less preferable option for Techno. That didn’t stop Dream. “How trash does their kingdom have to be, coming to see OURS. I’ll bet we’re 10 times better than their lousy guards.” “That mouth of yours had better be shut when they actually arrive, Dream.” Techno sighed out. “You’ll end up starting wars, no doubt.”
Nothing could hurt them here. That’s what Wilbur had always told himself. While it may have been a small kingdom he lived in, it was home. And it was brilliant. Wonderful fields you could lay in for hours on end, the walls tall and strong, giving a feeling of safety like nothing else.
Yet it hadn’t always been this way. Wilbur had always been told of what occurred long ago, when he was awfully young. A man who called himself The Blood God had entered, destroying everything in his path and leaving almost nothing. It was a fury like no other, no reason for its happening, and it hurt. That was the only thing worrying, the chance that something like that could happen again.
Wilbur, having been a loyal servant and knight to the king and queen for quite some time, had done everything in his power to keep this beautiful nation safe. Sure, it was for the nation. But he was also driven by need to protect a certain blue eyed brother of his. Sunshine, he’d call him. Tommy was Wilbur’s everything. Too young to be a soldier just yet, but no one minds him following Wilbur around. Everyone in the kingdom of L’manburg knows that if you see Wilbur, Tommy is somewhere nearby.
Wilbur wanted it to be that way forever.
Yet a certain god saw two kingdoms, and laughed. Kingdoms in these kinds of stories are never peaceful with each other.
