Chapter Text
10th of Red Wolf Moon, Autumn 1176
To Glenn,
I feel like laughing as I write down these words. This letter will never reach you, not just because you are traveling to Duscur at the moment, but I also never intend to send it out. Put bluntly, I am on a run from home right now. My old man hasn’t found out yet, and I can’t risk exposing my location.
Funny that I still struggle a bit with how to start a letter properly, even though I have nothing left to do with the nobility class now. Maybe it’s because I am writing to you. I have not had the chance for a decent talk with anyone for a long time. Tough luck, Glenn, you’ll have to endure all my venting as my childhood friend.
I picked a not-so-wise season to depart. It’s freezing outside, but luckily the first snow and heavy layers of clothes help a lot with my disguise. It’s a rough trip ahead, yet it feels exceptionally good to leave everything behind.
Two days ago, I helped a random outlaw in a fight out of boredom. When he looked at me with those eyes of awe, I was suddenly seized by an unprecedented surge of content. So I ask myself, what kind of life I have been living for more than two decades, and what my so-called family and friends have ever given me.
I am a different sort. The Crestless sort.
