"A gift?" El asks, looking down at the wrapped box Max just handed her.
"Yeah, a gift. You've gotten gifts before, right?"
El nods. "Joyce has gotten me gifts."
"Good, so open it."
Max was watching her with wide eyes, so El didn't waste any more time before ripping the paper off.
"Roller.. skates?" El reads off box, looking at Max in confusion. They just look like shoes with wheels. She already has shoes, why would Max get her new ones?
"Yeah," Max replies. And when El just kept staring at her she rolls her eyes. "Now we can skate together." She pats the skateboard beside her.
Oh. El smiles as she realizes what Max means. Then frowns. "I.. don't know how to skate."
"Well, obviously, you've never tried. Don't worry, I've been skating since I was six, I can teach you." She grinned at El proudly.
"You will?" El asks, watching excitedly as Max took the box from her and started opening it.
"Duh, that's what girlfriends do."
