Work Text:

Shinichi did like his mom's friends for the most part. He did not like when they gave him unsolicited advice on how he should live his life.

"You look like you've just eaten a lemon," said Kaito in his ear.

"I would have preferred that than a 45 year old woman who has gone through divorce three times telling me that I need to find myself a girlfriend and marry soon or I'm going to have to settle and maybe my children won't be as gorgeous as me then." It was especially annoying because Shinichi was already taken and had a boyfriend.

Kaito reacted in his typical way of avoiding a reaction, "Seems fun. My dad's friends were telling me to be careful with my tricks."

"Wanna change? I don't want love advice from a woman who has dated everyone at this point and is constantly in the tabloids. This woman cheated on her husband, divorced him and married another man only to then divorce that man again and date some actor. How is it acceptable for her to tell me these things?" The people nearby agreed with the sentiment the woman had, too.

"Ah, people always say the strangest things," said Kaito. "Does not mean that we have to listen to them. I, for one, would not like you to get yourself a girlfriend." He rather hoped that they would get married one day, if Japan ever allows same-sex marriage.

"Yeah, but if I tell her that maybe she should not cheat on her husbands, then I'm the one who's rude and I think that's much better life advice than: get married as soon as possible, at 25 years old you are already too old and expiring." Shinichi wouldn't cheat on his husband, if he had one.

"I can work it into a conversation if you want, the point is to be subtle enough to and to leave it open-ended, pointed but allowing for different interpretations."

Shinichi smiled, "Would you?"
