Chapter Text
Piper was finishing up a job in Lumina Square, driving past miles of sand and huge hollows scattered around in the distance. The road was well maintained despite being in the outer ring besides sometimes a tumble weed or two would get stuck in the wheels of whatever you were driving. The low hum of an engine would distract Piper from this though as she was so used to it and they did not give two fucks as they had modified their truck so much it would probably be an easy fix. She always called her truck the Steeltusk and valued it greatly.
She always managed to arrive safely even if she was miles over any normal speed limit rushing down back to her biker gang. Engines roared as she barrelled wildly down the road ,which left massive sand clouds behind. Newspapers rattled beside her in the door card as she came to a sudden halt in front of a small gathering which was the members of the Sons Of Claydon to no one's surprise which caused her tires to screech as she jumped out the enormous Steeltusk, landing right next to Lucy.
"Piper, what kind of entry do you call this you boar!" Lucy screamed as Piper's truck had barely evaded killing half of the members of the biker gang.
"Lil ol' me was being careful." Piper just stated, expression almost blank even though she would've probably wiped out her own boss if she wasn't lucky.
Lucy just rolled her eyes, turning back suddenly to Caesar as she crossed her arms and a small cloud of dust kicked up into the air as she spun around. Piper could assume the two had been arguing about something again. "Also, lil ol' me got the job all done," Piper confirmed before walking off to probably go sleep or maybe avoid a duel as her blonde hair drifted in the wind behind her, though she did not care for her appearance much. If you looked closely, she had already began scratching off a lottery ticket too.
Burnice just stared blankly at the other members at such a strange near death experience, she got lucky though which ended up benefitting them all as always. Now soon, Lucy and Caesar would return to the usual duel as Lucy always wanted to win so Burnice ended up also walking away with Pulchra catching up soon after behind her. They had both headed towards the small, friendly town of Blazewood that was just below the group. This left Caesar and Lucy alone on a miniscule hill that overlooked Blazewood, this would be the most wonderful spot for a duel.
Instead of a duel though, the two sat down and observed the town from above as they realised the sun was just beginning to set. "Hey, it's getting late you know, better head back unless you wanna sit out in the dark and cold!" The Overlord chuckled as they tapped on Lucy's shoulder twice, she had obviously been deep in thought about something. "I said, it's getting late, where did the loudness and shouting go, heh!" Caesar said as they got up, their voice had a slight confused tone though and an edge to it. Caesar knew something was wrong.
"OH! Huh, I was actually thinking about going back just now actually, I was going to go without you." Lucy complained, shooting up and heading to leave. Before Caesar could ask what was wrong, Lucy had stormed off down into Blazewood.
Caesar felt a bit of a pit in her stomach before suddenly sprinting after Lucy and practically chasing her down. Though, she couldn't be sneaky or discrete about it. Lucy had definitely heard the sound of Caesar's boots crashing against the ground as it sounded like she was practically running for her life. Darkness shrouded the silhouette of Lucy who was now sprinting to an alleyway, hoping to escape whatever confrontation she was expecting, maybe Caesar had found out her secret or maybe she had found all the savings she spent on skincare and makeup again.
Each slow turn round a corner felt like a nightmare but, just before Lucy could disappear into the shadows of an alleyway, Caesar had managed to catch up to her. Lucy was stopped in her tracks now and had no where to run off to. The best way to describe how she felt right now was terror but also relief, as Caesar did not look mad but instead concerned. There was a friendly smile on her boss's face that seemed so gentle and genuine as they sat down on some crates next to Lucy.
Caesar had began speaking while trying to catch her breath at the same time, "Lucy...what's wrong," She paused to take a breath. "You don't really seem like yourself, huh..?" There was a sudden awkward silence as Lucy just stood there in shock. The only sound was tumbleweeds, a slight breeze and the two girls catching their breath.
"Urgh...you know don't you, just admit it already!" Lucy shouted at Caesar as she stamped her foot down and pointed at The Overlord's face threateningly even if this was her own boss. Though, she was blushing and her face was bright red.
"Hah! I don't know anything, I was just missing the duels we would've had, you give it your all!" Caesar laughed as she watched Lucy calm down slightly, though she was still tomato red.
"Well then if you don't know, it is NONE of your business is it then!" Lucy declared. She strutted away and headed home before Caesar could explain her concern, The Overlord was left worried and disheartened but maybe it was just a rare occurrence.
Now Caesar was alone in the dark with little to no stamina left. She had already been tired before that sprint and now it was worse, her chest was burning from the inside like Burnice had randomly turned on her flamethrower and burned a hole in her lungs by mistake. It seemed that Caesar would just have to walk home alone tonight, that was fine. The stars twinkled in the beautiful night sky as Caesar left the alleyway
A small ray of light from the moon casted down, feeling like a guide in the outer ring as Caesar headed home. Barren lands now felt more like a sight to see as the soft, blue light illuminated every single sand particle. The area was magnificent and quiet, which was perfect for deep thoughts, She was thinking about today and how Lucy had acted but also why she was clearly hiding something. It wouldn't be something to worry about though as Caesar knew she could trust such an honourable and smart member of her group. Lucy was sometimes good advice but Caesar wouldn't say it to her face, those two bicker too much to even consider that. Lucy would probably just be rude, right?
Caesar was so lost in thought she hadn't realised she was standing at the door of her own home and knocking to be let in when the door had been left open. Well, it was time to go sleep then. Surely tomorrow Caesar will find an answer, but first she must handle business. Also, Caesar had began to worry slightly about other members too, she should check in on all of them like a good, efficient leader tomorrow.
