Two cookies lay underneath a large oak tree. Winds blowing past go unnoticed from the warmth the two have found next to each other.
"Windy..," The warmer one spoke up after a long stretch of silence.
Nothing echoed his voice back.
He glanced down, trying to make out the face of the one pressed against him. He could hardly see past his leafy hair, but his eyes looked to be closed.
That made him groan. How could he have chosen to fall asleep right now? He wasn't well accustomed with his sleep habits.. and with how boring things were around them sleeping did sound like the best past time.
Still, Fire Spitit had nothing to do now. There was no point in talking if someone wasn't there to take in your words. He leaned his head back fully against the trunk.
Now would be as good as ever to think about what'd happened in the last hour..
..
"Are you sure you have to keep up these weekely visits?"
"Yes!" Fire Spirit cried enthusiastically, "They're our tradition!"
He spun in circles around the cookie on the ground. "I'd be a horrible tradition keeper if I didn't."
Wind Archer hummed in acknowledgment, shaking his head. "It's not exactly "our" tradition if it's just you upholding it."
Fire Spirit shook his head, circling Wind Archer again to make sure he saw it.
"Monthly doesn't sound that bad. Trust me I'd be in a way better mood if that change happened."
Fire Spirit didn't even look forwards to him. "I doubt you would."
Wind Archer pursed his lips together. He was right in a way. These visits had been happening for months, a change like that wouldn't make any difference. The argument died off.
"Besides," Fire Spirit started, a smug bite on the tip of his tongue, "I know these are your favorite days of the week."
Wind Archer shook his head again. "I don't have a favorite day of the week."
"Come on, everyone does!" Fire Spirit flipped on his back and flew right beside Wind Archer.
"Really, than whats yours?"
"These days," He answered smoothly.
He had to be messing with him. This was about the highest climatic point they ever reached. Nothing ever happened when Fire Spirit was there. Of course, Wind Archer liked it that way. Things could be said much differently for Fire Spirit.
"Sure they are," Wind Archer replied, his skeptic tone very apparent.
"Oh come on, they are! Why don't ya believe me Windy?" He angeled himself to be directly facing the side of Wind Archers face.
Wind Archer pushed his face away. "Because nothing "exciting" ever happens here? I'm sure even your most boring moment in Dragons Valley would be more exciting to you than this."
Fire Spirit huffed and fell back, flying behind Wind Archer again now. He could easily say Wind Archer had never been to Dragons Valley and wouldn't know, but even he didnt want to argue on this further.
"..Hey Windy what's this?"
Wind Archer glanced behind himself with the corner of his eye. He prepared himself for another plant-based question Fire Spirit sometimes asked. He didn't know why he'd ever need to know the names of all these rare plants.
Instead, He raised his hand up to the top of his dough and rubbed something off of it, shoving his hand in Wind Archers face.
Wind Archer blinked. He raised up a hand to lower the one in front of him to see Fire Spirit's face. "I don't see anything.." But just then something wet dropped onto his face.
He hesitantly reached up and rubbed it. A few small white crystals floated down onto the surface. That was.. was it snowing?
Fire Spirit looked confused, which wasn't a vey common look on him. "What is it?" Wind Archer looked up at the clouds to confirm it. Yup, there was no doubting it. "It's snow."
Wind Archer paused after not hearing a response. "Do you know what that is?"
"No," Fire Spirit said. He flew a little higher, letting the snow fall in his palms.
Wind Archer hoped he was messing with him again. "It's tiny ice crystals that come from the clouds. This usually happens around this time of year."
"Ice.. like water?" Fire Spirit drew his hand back to his side. He sounded hesitant saying it.
"Oh.. yeah. Like.. well at least in your case, a less extreme version of rain."
"You're for the most part fine in water, so this should be fine if it stays light like this," He added. He saw the small relieved look on Fire Spirit's face as he extended his arm out again.
More snow fell down, doting their dough with unique little white marks.
"It doesn't look like it's staying light," Fire Spirit said, also looking at the clouds now.
Thanks captain obvious. "We should know within a few minutes."
Wind Archer continued walking, Fire Spirit behind him.
Fire Spirit dropped on the ground to feel the snow beneth him and grimaced, quickly lifting himself back up.
Wind Archer didn't blame him. The snow was piling up now, and was making his dough feel numb.
"Do you want to find someplace to take cover?"
Fire Spirit nodded enthusiastically. He raised a hand to his temple and scanned the area. "I don't see any good cover areas.."
Wind Archer sighed and pointed up ahead to where a large oak tree was planted. Its leaves left a spot underneath which would stay completely dry.
Fire Spirit silently followed as Wind Archer made his way to the tree. He guessed this was the best you could do in the middle of a forest.
Both of them sat down on the cold grass. The trunk was wide enough for them both to lean back against with comfortable distance kept.
The snow couldn't touch them but.. it was still now freezing out. Both of them weren't exactly dressed for winter weather and could definitely feel it.
Wind Archer cleared his throat, deciding to be the one to speak up about it. "I'm sure you can feel how cold it is too. What should we do about it?"
"Cuddle." The slight whistle afterwards ruined the faux innocence of his voice.
Wind Archer turned his head to face him. He was facing completely forward at the snowstorm, but Wind Archer could see him try to discreetly glance sideways. "Seriously? Of all the cookies I could've been stuck with, no one else would've said that!"
"That's not true! I'm sure a lot of them would!" He tried sounding casual about it but a defensive tone laced his words.
Wind Archer didn't give a response. He probably was right. It wasn't the most unethical thing to do in this situation.
"Fine.. if you think it'll work we can try it." He internally grimaced at himself for even considering it, let alone going through with it, before moving closer.
Fire Spirit couldn't help but be caught off guard when he felt Wind Archer press against him. He coughed, trying to clear his throat.
He kept peering down at Wind Archer, who was watching the snowstorm in front of them. He was starting to feel awkward by not saying anything, but what do you say in this situation?
"See? Told you it's totally working." He leaned back himself and started watching the snowstorm, which wasn't working for him and he went back to watching Wind Archer.
Wind Archer shut his eyes. He had to take a deep breath before he could respond to that. It was working, and he really, really wished it wasn't..
"Yeah.. and how come im not burning like all those.. other times we've come in contact?" That sure wasn't a question he enjoyed wording.
Fire Spirit chuckled. He brought one hand up behind his head. "It's something I'm working on! I lowered my flame's level so it would be hot enough to withstand."
"Useful.. doesn't that mess with our goal of trying to stay as warm as we can?" Wind Archer asked as he moved closer.
"Well if I didn't you'd get burnt and that wouldn't be very helpful for us either.."
That made a lot of sense. Wind Archer didn't know why he'd even asked the question. It was an impulsive urge to have their conversation continue.
"Besides, the winds biting against my flames anyway. The real heat would come from our bodies connecting, no matter how hot my flame was!" He sounded genuinely enthusiastic to be explaining it.
"Wow," Wind Archer said while humming, "That sounded like something pretty smart."
"I always am! Always smart, I mean.." Fire Spitit cleared his throat hoping the fumble of his response wasn't apparent. It was, which only made the attempt funnier.
Wind Archer chuckled quitely. Quickly too, like he hadn't intended for it to be vocal. The sound dug into Fire Spirit's side.
"Anyways..," He began, his voice more level-headed, "How long do you plan on staying like this? It's not the most sensible."
"Oh don't worry, this storm will pass over easily!" Fire Spirit responded in full confidence.
"Have you been watching our surroundings at all?"
"Not.. really?" Looking around, Fire Spirit could notice the snow piling up. It wasn't that deep yet, but the snowfall hadn't let up at all.
"And it's not like it's totally impractical! I'm warm, and I'm hoping, well.. at lesst assuming you are too. It's doing us good!"
He looked down at Wind Archer, who reluctantly nodded along. "It is benefical to us," He agreed.
Fire Spirit rolled his eyes. It would've been nicer to hear that he was enjoying it. He leaned further back against the tree.
"If we're going to be stuck here for a while," Wind Archer elevated his voice so it was heard over the winds around them, "It would be nice if you didn't run your mouth the whole time."
Fire Spirit frowned subtly. He knew eventually he'd be asked this, with Wind Archer's direct nature and all. But it was also one of the only ways he knew how to pass time.
"Yeah sure Windy, I can compromise and be quiet for a while for you." He took note of the almost instant relaxation he felt from him following his words. "Just don't go and fall asleep on me, yeah?"
"I wouldn't plan on it." Fire Spirit fought the smile off his face, hearing the noticably softer pitch of his tone.
This would be fine. Fire Spirit wouldn't mind using the time to relax himself.
Only things didn't go fine. After hardly any time at all, Fire Spirit felt a heavier weight being pressed to his side.
"Windy? Hey.." He could've brushed it off as him trying to get warmer, but it was like he was completely holding his weight up now. He looked over and saw his eyes were shut comfortably. He didn't like where this was going.
Even though he knew what had happened, Fire Spirit still adjusted himself so he could get a better look at his counterpart. Oh, he was definitely asleep.
"What'd you go and do that for?" He asked, knowing he wouldn't get an answer yet still feeling the full weight of not getting one.
It wasn't like a lot of their conversations weren't one sided on his part. They were! But right now it was different. Whatever he said Wind Archer wouldn't be able to hear at all. Unless he was fake sleeping, which really wouldn't be appreciated.
He could always just wake him up.. Fire Spirit raised his free hand but hesitated, ultimately bringing it back to his side. Was it really worth it..? Well, yes. There was nothing he had to lose. It didn't really feel right to him though. This might as well be the best thing either of them could do right now.
It didn't change how completely bored he was. I mean with nothing else to do, he might as well lean back too and relax. Maybe he'd fall asleep too! He doubted it. The winds were too uncomfortable.
After what Fire Spirit thought to be only a few minutes, Wind Archer already started to stir.
"..Awake so soon?" Fire Spirit said once Wind Archer's eyes blinked and found their way up to his. His voice sounded slightly raspy. Maybe a bit more time had passed than he thought.
Wind Archer looked away and down in front of them, where the snow was now probably very much deeper than when he'd fallen asleep. He was quiet for a few beats, maybe contemplating how he'd actually fallen asleep.
He opened his mouth finally, and a quiet sound came out. "Could I go back to sleep..?" The rest of Fire Spirit's face reacted before his lips could. He was glad Wind Archer wasn't looking up to see it.
"Yeah! Yeah.." He tried quitely his throat. His voice sounded so near breathless, almost like he was trying to make it that way. "Sure you can.. yeah."
The casual attempt didn't work. He still sounded so shaken. Wind Archer didn't second guess it. He moved closer to Fire Spirit, finding a spot comfortably against his side.
Fire Spirit held his breath, like he was expecting to hear something else from him when really he was a few minutes away from passing out again. He let go of it and looked over.
Nothing about this situation was that crazy enough for him to be reacting this way. He shifted himself a little, making the both of them in a more comftorable spot.
Staying like this.. it wouldn't be that bad. At least not untill the storms over.. or maybe after that too? He wouldn't be, well, opposed to it..
He let his head fall on top of Wind Archers', silently deciding to close his eyes. Sleeping wouldn't be that bad now, if they were staying like this.
This whole storm wouldn't be that bad if they could just stay here. Maybe it'd feel like it was passing after minutes as well.
