A tender touch to his head was all it took for the man to tilt in and nestle his face within the crook of Mydei's neck.
Stilness brushed in through the cracks of shared tranquility, like a snug blanket enveloping the two upon their bed.
A soft usher of, "it's okay," was all it took for Reaver to slowly unravel. In this instance, he was engulfed in a firm embrace. Gone was the turmoil, and here was security.
Fingers adorned in bejewelled golden rings delicately danced through pale white hair, while his nails softly brushed against his scalp in smooth motion.
A weak hum left from Reaver's throat, hoarse and grainy like sandpaper.
A short time ago, guttural sobs and wails echoed through the room past his lips. Pain. Wretched pain in the confines of his eclipsed mind. But here in the present with Mydei, sharp strings upon his throat slackened and withered into neverness.
For once, his head grew quiet and still. Neither Phainon or Khaslana remained close to consciousness.
"Reaver?"
His head slowly tilted up, flat strands of hair dancing across his face like weeping icicles.
"I've got you."
His breathing wavered as he took in the Kremnoan's words. Dull and tired eyes peered upon his complexion, though he saw no ill within their amber shimmer.
"..Promise?" Reaver croaked out.
Mydei's hand trailed down to cup the man's cheek, cradling softly in his palm.
"The events of our pasts cannot be undone," he ushered softly, "but our future is never set in stone."
"If it were in my hands, I'd unweave the tragedy in your heart, so that you might look upon the world with a bolder smile."
Mydei's soft lips planted a kiss upon his forehead, before guiding the man's head to his chest.
"And I'll fight with everything I have if it means keeping you safe," he ushered. "For keeping all of you safe."
The faintest tinge of a smile tugged at the corner of Reaver's typical frown. His head nestled just under Mydei's chin as snowy locks tickled against the man's skin.
He didn't mind, for this moment was one of unwavering comfort and consolation. Not for one, but for both of them.
Reaver's heart beated steadily like a kindling flame amidst clouds leaden with snow, tucked securely within the safety of Mydei's firm embrace. Here, he was secure.
Nothing would hurt him here.
