They'd found him, told him it was 2011, and they‘d won the war. Had given him assignments, called themselves Shield. Peggy Carter’s work, they said.
Something about DC was off. The first time he snuck out, found a library... They hadn‘t even bothered hiding.
The next mission, he ran, went underground. Found a group of people called "the Avengers". Learned to trust them.
Now they were gearing up for their most important mission yet. Steve was to find the unwilling Fist of Hydra — Bucky —, use him to infiltrate their headquarters, and get out alive.
He could do this all day.
