Work Text:

The User waited for Sean's appearance within the silent and eerie void. The only thing in this infinite "nowhere" was a solitary spawn point. They lay down, eyes fixed on that single coordinate as they waited for him—like a dog waiting for its owner.

Hours drifted past, yet the User remained motionless. They could have easily logged out or returned to their usual routines, but a heavy, paralyzing sensation took root within them. It was as if an invisible force was pinning them to the floor of the void, making them unable—or perhaps unwilling to move.

Sean sat beside one of the teleporters in Nilspace—the very devices JX1DX1 used to traverse different games. Sean wanted to test one... just once, for a very specific reason and a very specific someone. He choose the one where it had the coordinates for Aubree’s unfinished house. Immediately, his body began to glitch uncontrollably, his wings snapping open as he was forcibly pulled into the data stream of her game.

"What the fuck were those side effects?" Sean hissed, stumbling out of the house. A searing headache throbbed behind his eyes, and black ink began to trickle from his wounded left eye. As he exited, he noticed unanchored furniture drifting aimlessly, some pieces clipping through the wooden floor, but he didn't care. He needed to find flowers for User. Even a single blossom might make this suffering worth it.

Sean dropped to his knees, his hand trembling as he plucked the flowers one by one. The headache continued to ruin his focus, and a stray drop of ink fell from his cheek, staining a petal dark.

Sean stood on the spawn point, welcomed by the sight of User’s messy face. Their body remained motionless on the ground—perhaps they were in sleep mode? Who knew. Sean slowly approached User, his boots hitting the featureless floor of the void with a dull thud, his wings dragging like leaden weights behind him. He sat beside the motionless robot, whose antennae twitched in response to his body heat.

Sean’s hand trembled as he held out the small bouquet. "I know this isn't much," he mumbled, glancing at User and then back at the flowers. Dark stains of his blood remained on the petals. It wasn’t pretty, but it was all he could get.

User powered on as Sean poked their antennae, finally breaking the "paralysis." They sat up, the gears in their torso beginning to hum faster when they noticed the gift Sean held. The robot hugged Sean in appreciation, their antennae twitching with... love?

"Tthannk yyooou, Sean..." User whispered, their tail-like wires wagging in happiness.

"Yeah, yeah. Happy early Valentine’s," Sean smiled, his wings spreading to wrap around User.

The warmth of the moment was suddenly interrupted as the User pulled back. They didn't move away, however..instead, they cupped Sean's cheek with a cold, metallic palm. Before he could speak, they leaned in, closing the distance to press a kiss against his lips.

"Yyyou ttoo."
