It started with a call.
Nuru, to be precise, ringing him at the delightful hour of 2:37am, “Hugo… I have a case.”
Hugo bit back, “I’m not a police officer anymore Nuru, so fuck off.”
“Oh but you’ll like this one,” he could hear Nuru twirling her hair around her finger, “It’s one about a psychopath. The police can’t figure it out. The government is panicking—“
“And so you’ve come to the guy who can’t afford his rent? What a good police officer you are.”
“Are you going to take it or not?” Nuru sighed, “He writes your name in the blood of his victims every time he kills.”
“Done,” Hugo yelled as he slammed the phone down. Now he definitely could afford rent.
