Chapter Text
Clay rubbed his head in the morning, another painful migraine that was once again going to stop him from training. They were getting worse, sure Clay experienced headaches.. especially with everything that went on in his head.. but recently it just seemed to be causing more harm then anything else. It wasn't switching, because that never gave him the worst headaches known to mankind.. and Merlok never really fronted, which just made everything more .. confusing.
The thing was.. Clay couldn't remember what had happened yesterday, he couldn't remember what happened all week. Sure he remembered waking up, complaining about his headache.. yet after that, nothing. As if he blacked out completely, maybe he fell asleep, and just couldn't remember? He rubbed his head again, sitting up in his bed and trying to decide whether he should actually go to training today or once again lie in bed, as there was a knock at his door.
"Clay, hey are you awake?" Aaron asked, as the bedroom door opened and he walked inside. "Are you.. feeling okay?" He asked, watching his boyfriends face as if he was studying the blue knight with caution.
"I.. I'm okay, why do you ask?" Clay tilted his head in minor confusion, wondering what on earth Aaron was talking about. Even if in that moment, he was not fine.. he was struggling with the worst headache known to exist. As he suddenly put his hand to his head, and laid down slowly. "Okay, no, I'm not fine.. these headaches are hurting me physically.." He confessed, as Aaron sat on the edge of his bed.
"I'm not.. uh, I'm personally not very educated on this disassociative stuff, but.. maybe something is going on? I dunno, can't your brain do that sometimes?" He asked, wanting to help Clay.. really he did, but how could he do that when he didn't know what was happening to him. "I mean I can't assume, but it's putting you in pain.. and I can't stand to see you like this." He continued, as Clay gently sat up again, making the green knight put his hands on Clay's shoulders.
"Hey, feather brains.. it's okay.. take a deep breath, and I'll go grab you some water." Aaron suggested, as Clay shook his head in response. "No, you don't want any water?" He asked, as Clay nodded.
"I'm.. I'm okay, thank you Aaron." Clay muttered, as he took his hands off of his head.
"God that headache has been taking me out for days, if only Clay wasn't such a stubborn asshole." Clay?? That wasn't Clay, they didn't speak like Clay, and the way they watched Aaron didn't feel like Clay. "He's been sleeping a whole bunch lately, I can't blame him really.. these headaches have been ridiculous." They continued, suddenly realising they were in fact.. in a room with Clay's teammate.
"Oh crap.. uh.. knights code?" They stumbled, as they didn't really know how to respond like Clay. "Fuck it, the cats out of the damn bag now." They continued speaking, as Aaron was about to speak.. stopped himself, then proceeded to speak again.
"Okay.. uh, what the fuck?" Aaron spoke, before covering his mouth and realising that was incredibly stupid and potentially inappropriate to say. "I'm sorry, uh.. who are you?"
"Grey.. Grey Stoneheart, or uh.. more familiarly known as Grey Knight." They responded, answering so calmly as if they expected this reaction.. truthfully they were waiting for something worse. "Aaron right? We've ah.. we've met before." They continued, putting their hands on their knees.
"Grey.. it's uh, nice to see you again?" He didn't really know what was the appropriate way to respond in terms of witnessing your boyfriend actively switch in front of you. "Sorry, is something wrong?"
Grey thought about it for a moment, before giving Aaron the same confused face Clay gave him 24/7 when he didn't know what was happening.. understandable though, Grey WAS apart of Clay's brain. "Nothing is wrong, but Clay's so stressed out he just needs some time to breathe, I understand that means your in charge until he's back." They finally spoke, as Aaron looked away from them for a moment.
"Look, it's confusing.. we didn't really have a good first impression of eachother, but look.. I'm not really like that, I'm uh.. different?" Grey felt like they were making things even more awkward, and without a proper explanation, it probably made things a lot worse.
"Clay's magic.. uh my magic, made me a lot.. calmer, I know that sounds weird.. but —"
"I believe you, but I guess I'm surprised because Clay's my boyfriend.. so what does that.. what does that make us?" Aaron realised his question probably sounded inappropriate as Grey tilted their head. "Sorry, I guess I'm not used to asking Clay questions.."
"We're friends, I suppose." Grey responded, keeping their gaze locked on their knees. "I don't know, I believe my first impression on you wasn't the best.. I hurt you all." They spoke quietly, as Aaron said nothing. They were simply aware that they had done something wrong, and to them.. they just wanted to fix it.
"Hey, uh.. Grey, it's okay.." Aaron reassured them, putting a hand on their shoulder. "I guess, you could make it up to everyone.. even if that might be difficult, considering we don't know if you and Clay will uh.. transfer again."
"Switch, it's called switching." Grey spoke, of course they understood Aaron was helping.. and in that moment, it's all that really mattered. "But, I appreciate your assistance in talking to the other knights, it would be better if you joined me." They added, as Aaron nodded.
Today was going to be a long day, of course it was.. and Grey hoped they could get through it without any issues.. or even Cal deciding to get involved. They just wanted to make things right with Clay's teammates, and hopefully today would be the day they can do that with minimum distractions.. yet apologising to a certain red knight, might be a bit of a hassle.
