Work Text:
My precious angel,
I'm so sorry,
I've been callous,
was self-absorbed so much –
I didn't even think:
you lost your grace,
became a human,
were so callow –
and I just threw you out
without a single blink.
My poor angel,
you survived
your deprivations:
Sam is important,
but no more
than you, my dear.
I thought I'd handle
my trials and tribulations,
but, in the end,
just almost killed you
with my fear.
I often blamed you
for your choices,
faux pas –
because I judged you
as a human,
not an angel:
for eons
you've been watching
from above
our world
and all its rapid changes.
Your task has always been
a thing of greater worth,
than our little squabbles,
petty quarrels:
you watched the Mankind –
saw our best and worst –
as an impartial supervisor,
not a party.
But you have always been
the champion of Men
amongst your brethren,
had been made to cherish
the God's creation:
you are our heavensent
and your mistakes
and little slips
cannot diminish
that you were trying,
that you fought so hard
for our race,
for our need for freedom,
for our inborn right
to live our lives,
not fearing,
that it's for us forbidden.
You listened –
while your brethren turned away –
to our pleas
to show your mercy,
not to slaughter
us as a whole
for your insane heavenly games,
so that our lives
were not for naught.
I am so sorry, dear seraph,
I'll do better...
Please, angel, grace me
with your pardon and forgiveness.
I don't deserve your absolution,
I'm aware,
though I can't help but seek it
and your lenience.
I'll take you home,
my dear angel,
I will guard
your pure heart
forevermore and thereafter...
Please, trust me,
though I know it must be hard –
I'll earn anew your faith and love,
my poor Castiel...
You do not need
to be of use to justify
your place beside me.
Just don't leave.
That's all. I mean it.
To love you's not a sin or sacrifice...
Forgive me, angel...
"I forgive you, Dean..."
