Notes:

Welcome to the first installment of these short Valentine's inspired oneshots! I'm going to be uploading one a day until Valentine's, so subscribe to the series if you'd like to see where they go. I'm very excited to play around with some of these characters and have something low stakes to write in between my more serious fics, haha. Hope you all enjoy <3

Work Text:

A hand reaching out of a darkened room to grab at him would have been terrifying to literally anyone else. To Irving, it was a sign that his wife had a moment free that she had chosen to spend with him instead of sleeping or hanging out with some of their friends.

He was easily pulled back through the doorway and into the supply closet. The shelves were absolutely stuffed full of extra pillows and blankets on the side that Jessica was standing near, Irving framed instead by extra bedpans and urinary incontinence sheets. It didn’t matter that they were entombed with a bunch of medical supplies, though, they had spent their entire working lives around it all and it had become very comforting. The only thing that mattered was that the two of them were together and no one was watching them.

“Good shift so far?” Irving asked.

“Mm, getting better,” Jessica whispered. She placed her hand on one side of his face while their fingers wove together on the other side. She brought their lips into an adoring kiss that felt like it lasted for a few milliseconds and eons at the same time.

Irving dipped his head down and pressed it against her forehead before he gave a long sigh. “How are my two favorite people doing?” Jessica asked, her voice light and teasing. The hand that had been touching his face dropped down to the slight crest of his belly, right between his hips.

He had yet to start showing yet, not outside of the track suit or teal scrub top that he wore when he was working down in the ER. He was sure that Devon or Conrad had been able to figure out what was going on with him thanks to their Sherlockian diagnostician abilities, but for now he and Jessica were keeping their little embryo a private secret between the two of them alone. “We’re good, a little tired.”

“Maybe I should keep you in here longer, build you a whole fort with all these pillows and blankets,” Jessica chuckled.

“Sure, just don’t include the bedpans,” he stole another kiss from her before he found something stupid that he could take from the closet so no one would ask what they had been doing. They were married and far older than they had been when their tryst had started in a broken elevator, he didn’t want to be accused of fucking in a supply closet now that he was less than six months out from being a father.

He turned his head backwards to glance at Jessica for a moment longer before he continued on his way back to work.
