Chapter Text
“Promise to stay in contact?”
“Of course.”
Giyuu lifted the suitcase onto the luggage belt as he assured her.
“You won’t fall off the face of the planet once you start work, will you?” Shinobu laughed as she elbowed him in the side.
“You’re the one falling off the face of the planet. New York is very far.”
“Oh hush. It’s just for a semester. It’ll be over before you know it.”
Giyuu frowned.
“A semester is a long time.”
Shinobu slapped her small hands onto his cheeks, pulling his face closer.
“Only if you think of it that way. You got your new teaching job. Think of all the things you'll get to do, all the new people you'll meet.” She pinched his cheeks to force a smile onto his face. "Besides, nee-san is also there. You'll be fine.”
“Right.”
She smiled at the redness on his cheeks while he rubbed the ache away.
“Well,” she looked over at the short lineup to the security clearance “I’d better get going. My flight’s in an hour.”
Giyuu had never been loud about his affection, he had always been subtle, quiet. Today, though, he wanted to hold her close, kiss her deep, as if they were in the privacy of his own apartment rather than at the baggage drop at Narita Airport. His heart beat fast and his hands itched with the desire to grab her before she left.
He stuffed his hands in his pockets and gave her a quick nod. His heart dropped uncomfortably in his chest as he watched her line up and inch closer toward the security barrier.
Her smile was brilliant – glowing and excited – as she glanced back at him one last time.
Then she disappeared past the white walls and security tape.
