Work Text:
Fool - Cavetown
Imagine Varian facing Hugo after he finds out he was working for Donella. Varian is kinda crying. They are standing by the portal to the Eternal Library. This part is from Varian’s perspective.
I am just a fool to keep on chasing after nothing great
You are just a fool to keep pretending that you're loving me
I don't know where I'm supposed to go
Oh oh oh oh oh oh-oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh-oh oh
Cut to a flash back. They are together, alone, in a tent. It is notably late at night, and Hugo is tired, but is listening to Varian professionally yap about alchemy and his mothers journal. Hugo finds this cute. This part is from Hugo’s perspective.
Call me on the phone at three, I talk to you while half asleep
Complaining 'bout your mother so I take you to the cemetery
Rant to me I like the sound, I like your voice, I like your mouth
Hugo realises he’s in love with Varian.
Oh
Hugo accepts this.
O-Oh
Hugo is giddy.
M-M-M-M
*Music*
Now imagine Hugo stealing the goggles off Varian and running, while Varian chases after him. This is from a third person perspective.
Cycling to school at 7:30 in the morning
Varian catches up to him, tackles him, (not to the floor) and takes his goggles back - both are notably blushing.
I am still your baby boy, I'm stuck in 2013
Cut to Varian actively internally panicking while thinking about his past.
Don't understand my body, Washing machine confuses me
Hugo realises he’s panicking.
Oh
Varian tries to play it off, acting like he’s lowkey chill.
O-Oh, M-M-M-M
Cut to flashes about their lovely time together.
*Music*
Cut back to the scene at hand - Varian is now crying more while yelling at Hugo for his betrayal, as well as blaming himself for trusting Hugo.
Now imagine Varian running towards and into the portal, while Hugo is sad and tries to get Varian to not. This is from a 3rd person perspective.
I am just a fool to keep on chasing after nothing great
You are just a fool to keep pretending that you're loving me
I don't know where I'm supposed to go
This is from Hugo’s perspective. He reflects on what kind of person he is.
Look in the mirror
He internally expresses his feelings.
I love that boy
Actively regrets hurting Varian.
Don't hurt my dear, don't hurt my joy
Oh oh oh oh oh oh-oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh-oh oh
Both parties respectively break down, Varian in the library and Hugo outside.
