Work Text:

Despite being depressingly single, Peter loves Valentine's Day. It's one of the few days of the year where humanity actually seems nice, with everyone running around spreading love. It's the only reason he had agreed to work a shift, it seemed like a much better idea to see couples buy disgustingly sweet coffees for each other than to stay at home alone.

He had just returned from his lunch break when he got notified two cars were pulling up at the drive-thru. He quickly adjusts his headset and waits for the first car to reach the speaker before turning it on.

"Welcome to Dunkin Donuts! What can I get for you today?" He says in his customer service voice.

There was silence for a few seconds before a voice finally responded.

"Yes, hi! Could I get a Blush Spritz Refresher please?" A woman says.

"Sure thing! What size?" He asks, adding it to their order.

"Large, please. Also can I do a Jelly donut with that?" She adds on.

"Okay, so one large Blush Spritz Refresher and a Jelly donut." He repeats.

"Yep."

"Is that all?" He asks, the woman simply hums. "That will be $8.35. Please pull up to the window."

The car moves forward and he repeats the interaction with the second car, this time another woman ordering a Sweet on You Cloud Latte and another Jelly donut. Peter quickly hands off the orders to his coworkers and steps up to the window till to take the payment.

As he slides the window open, the woman sitting behind the wheel is completely turned around, facing something behind her car. Peter is a curious teenager so he peaks his head out of the window, his eyes landing on the second car. There's a woman driving, a soft smile on her face as she also stares back at the woman in front of her.

" Ma'am?" Peter calls out politely.

She quickly turns around to face him, her short red hair whipping her face from the sudden move. She looks slightly embarrassed as she pulls it away from her face.

"Sorry about that." She says, her piercing green eyes looking in every direction but him.

"No problem. That will be $8.35, ma'am." He replies, his customer service smile dialled at one hundred.

"Of course." She says, handing over her card. He's about to swipe it when she suddenly reaches out, trying to stop him. "I'd love to pay for the car behind me too."

Peter blinks a couple of times as he processes what she says. It's not uncommon for people to pay for the car behind them, it does usually start an annoying chain that can get confusing real quick but there's only two cars right now so he doesn't mind.

Besides, it seems like she's very sure of paying for it and Peter is nothing but cupid.

"Sure!" He says.

He lists off the new total and when the payment is complete she surprises him once more.

"Can you tell her I think she's stunning?"

This is getting really good.

"I will pass the message." He answers. He loves playing matchmaker. What's cuter than meeting on Valentine's Day after having your order paid for? "Would you like me to leave your number on her cup?" He asks.

"Could you? Also please add my name, it's Natasha." She adds. He nods along as she reads out her number, before handing her the receipt. "Thank you! Don't forget to tell her she's stunning. Also that she's super hot, like hotter than the sun hot." She repeats.

Oh, Peter hopes these two hook up. Or better, that they go on dates, fall in love and get married. He hopes he's invited to the wedding

After confirming that he'll pass on the message, word for word, she drives off and he begins preparing himself. He really hopes it goes well and the woman is flattered.

When she finally pulls up, Peter realises why Natasha was so endeared. This woman is pretty, like, very pretty. She has long brownish hair and her makeup is all smokey and dark. She's stunning. And to top it off, the woman was slightly sweaty, clearly having just returned from working out based on her outfit.

He knows it's biologically impossible but these two women would make the prettiest babies.

The ring on her ring finger doesn't go unnoticed though and his heart tugs a little. Poor Natasha.

"Hello. Normally, this is where I'd take your payment, but the car before you wanted to pay for your order." He says, and the woman raises an eyebrow, clearly amused.

"Of course she did." She mumbles, a soft tone to her voice that takes him by surprise. "What else did she say?"

Peter freezes at that. How does she know?

"Well, ma'am, she said you were stunning. And that you're super hot, like hotter than the sun hot." He repeats, feeling slightly embarrassed to say this to a stranger. "Her exact words." He adds.

The woman giggles at his words, clearly taking his words in a positive way. Whoever she's married to, he only hopes she divorces to chase after Natasha.

"I am so sorry, she always does this. That's my wife."

Oh.

Oh!

It's impossible to stop the grin growing on his face, he finds this entire situation just too endearing.

"That's more than alright! That's sweet!" Peter says, he just can't help but gush over it.

It might not be the love at first sight story he thought it was, but a whipped pair of wives is even better.

"Thank you." She responds with a large smile. "And sorry again."

"Really, it's no problem. Happy Valentine's Day to you both!" He says.

As she drives off, a lovesick smile on her face, Peter stays behind watching the parking lot cameras.

He noticies the car from earlier parked, Natasha leaning on it with her order on top of the car. He watches as the red head gets out of the car and laughs all the way to Natasha. She melts into her arms before pulling away. The two exchange coffees and giggle as they eat together while leaning on the car.

If Peter squeals at the view it's nobody's business but his own.
