Notes:

Chapter 1: Knock Knock?

Chapter Text

Alex was happy. She was sitting in her apartment with her wife, Sam Arias, and her step-daughter, Ruby. They were watching Pitch Perfect 2. Ruby was engrossed in it, Alex and Sam were half watching it. They were more enjoying this moment.

Alex’s phone buzzed with her sister’s icon popping up. She opened the text and saw a picture of her 3 year old nephew, Kaden and sister-in-law, Lena. Kaden shared Lena’s hair but Kara's complexion and eyes. Lena was currently holding Kaden upside down and the boy was laughing.

Cute. Was all Alex sent, she didn’t need to send a lengthy message, those four characters were perfect.

She was happy. She was enjoying this nice autumn day, it was the weekend so no one worked and Fall Break so Ruby didn’t have to go to school regardless.

“See! They are so gay, moms!” Ruby yelled as she pointed to Beca Mitchell and Chloe Beale.

“Who? Your aunts Kara and Lena or us?” Alex asked, who got a pillow thrown at her in response.

“You’re not even paying attention.” Ruby groaned.

“We are, we’re just selective about it.” Sam replied.

“Gosh, you’re so annoying!”

That got both moms laughing.

But their peace was interrupted by a knock at the door.

“I got it.” Alex said as she got up.

As she approached the door, out of instinct, she grabbed a hidden gun and hid it behind her back. She slowly opened it up and saw the last person she’d ever expect to find on the other side of her door. Her ex-fiancée, Maggie Sawyer.

“Maggie?”

Sam was instantly up, knowing all about them.

“Hey, Alex, it’s been a while.”

“It really has. What brings you here? I thought you moved to Gotham.”

“I did, actually, that’s kind of what this is about. I know I could have sent a letter, but this just felt like an in person thing.”

“Is everything alright?” Alex asked, even though they were broken up, she still worried about her.

“Yeah, great even.”

“Would you like to come inside?”

“That would be great.” Maggie smiled.

Alex stepped aside and allowed her in. Once she closed the door, she re-hid her gun.

“Hi. You must be Maggie. I heard a lot about you.” Sam walked over and offered a handshake.

“Yeah, I’m Alex’s, uh, um.”

“Ex?” Sam smiled.

“Yeah, that.”

“It’s ok. I’m Sam, her wife.”

“I heard you got hitched, congratulations.” Maggie turned back to Alex.

“Thank you. Sorry I didn’t send-”

“No hard feelings, Alex. I promise. I can prove it too.”

Alex was about to ask how when Ruby approached.

“Who is this?” Maggie waved at the young girl.

“I’m Ruby, I’m their daughter.”

Maggie chuckled, memories of why she and Alex broke up flooded her mind. She turned back to Alex.

“Look, I’m happy for you. I really am. There’s no ‘but’ there. I mean it.”

“Thank you.”

“And I said I can prove there’s no hard feelings. So, I wanted to tell you I’m getting married too.”

“Really?! That’s amazing! Congratulations!” Alex cheered.

“Yeah, there’s a reason I’m here though.” Maggie pulled out an RSVP. “This is for you, all three of you.”

“Are you-”

“Absolutely. Besides, I think you’re gonna want to come.” Maggie gave Alex a mischievous grin.

“Oh no. I don’t like that look.”

“Oh you will. You remember my dad?”

“Unfortunately.”

“Remember how he told me how he worked his ass off to make ends meet and to fit in when he came to this country?”

“Yeah, again, unfortunately.”

“Well, I sent him an invite to the wedding. Him and mom I mailed to.”

Alex gave her a confused look.

“You might want to read this.” Maggie passed her the RSVP.

Alex began to read aloud. “You are formally invited to the wedding of Maggie Sawyer and-” Alex stopped when she saw the name. She slowly looked up at Maggie with shock in her eyes, Maggie still had that mischievous grin. “Kate Kane!”

“Yup.”

“The cousin of Bruce Wayne!?”

“You betcha. You know, I should compare notes with Kara. Marrying into a rich family and all. I mean, I’m not doing it for the money, at all. But you can’t deny that’s a plus.”

Alex thought it through and then started laughing. “So your dad, the man who struggled to make money when he first got here, hated the fact you're gay, and you invited him to a wedding where you’re gonna get rich by being gay.”

“Pretty much.”

“That is amazing.”

“A bit petty, but honestly, it was Kate’s idea. But you remember him and how he treated you, I thought if perhaps he comes, you can see the whole show go down.”

“Will Br-”

“Yes, Bruce Wayne and his entire family will be there. The guy has adopted a lot of kids. OH! Fuck! Right. The wedding, well you should check where it’s being held.”

Alex went back to the RSVP and her eyes widened. “Your wedding is at Wayne Manor!”

“Oh yeah. It’s gonna be great. I think seeing who I’m marrying and where it’s gonna be, dad’s probably gonna come.”

This sounded incredibly petty, not that Alex minded, but she was her ex.

“Are you sure this is a great idea? Me coming, that is?”

“Yeah, of course. I asked Kate, she’s fine with it. Speaking of, Kate actually invited Kara and Lena as well as their son.”

“I’ll probably be getting a phone call soon.”

Sam took the card. “Babe, the date’s in a month.”

“Yeah, sorry for the last minute notice.”

“No, it's fine. Benefits of being sister-in-laws with a Luthor, she can help with our dresses.”

“And best friends with her.” Sam added.

Maggie chuckled. Alex looked at her wife.

“So?”

Sam pulled out her phone and checked her, Alex, and Ruby’s calendars. She then grabbed a pen and checked ‘Yes’.

“We’ll see you there.” She smiled.

“Great.” Maggie smiled as she took the RSVP. “I better head out, gotta get back to helping Kate.”

“How’d you even get here?” Alex suddenly asked.

“On Wayne’s private jet.”

“Private jet?” Alex and Ruby complained.

“Both of you, stop. We have Lena’s private jet.”

“Oh yeah.”

“But, it’s Wayne, mom!” Ruby said.

“See ya, guys.” Maggie laughed as she left.

The family of three found themselves back on the couch and unpaused their movie. Alex was no longer even half paying attention to the movie, her mind was on this wedding.

The movie ended a few hours ago, dinner was made and eaten, now everyone was in bed. Sam laid a hand on Alex’s stomach, pulling her from her thoughts.

“You ok?”

“Yeah, it’s just weird is all.”

“If you don’t really want to go, we don’t have to. We can give Maggie a call right now.”

“No, I want to. I just wasn’t expecting to see her. Is it weird I want to go to my ex’s wedding?”

“Kind of. But it’s sweet that you do.”

“And you’re not worried about it?” Alex asked.

“Well tell me this, are you planning on leaving me for her?”

“No.”

“Are you planning on cheating on me with her?”

“God no!”

“Then no, I’m not worried at all.” Sam smiled.

Alex looked her wife in the eyes. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Alex pulled Sam in for a kiss. When they pulled apart, Sam could see there was something else on her mind.

“What is it?”

“It’s just, Maggie’s father.”

“Not a great guy, I heard.”

“I kind of want him to show up. To see how well Maggie is doing, with or without him, she’s doing great. That even someone like Bruce Wayne will love to have her as a part of the family.”

“Yeah, that’s pretty cool. Marrying into the Wayne family.”

“I mean, we’re technically a part of the Luthor family thanks to Kara, but that name isn’t the greatest.”

“Yeah, Luthor, insane family that hunts aliens vs the Waynes, not so insane family who always wanted to do some good, even Thomas and Martha Wayne. At least Lena didn’t turn out like the others.”

Alex laughed. “And I have never been so happy to be wrong.” She still cringed at how she treated Lena when she first moved to National City.

“Look, Alex, I’m not going to lie to you. It’s going to be awkward at this wedding. You’re probably going to be a nervous wreck.”

Alex gasped at her. “Will not! I fight aliens and I have no powers.”

“Honey, those are bad guys, when it comes to actual feelings-”

“Hey, fuck you. I am great at feelings and emotions.”

“Well.”

“Oh, that’s it.”

Alex climbed on top of Sam, causing both women to laugh.

One thing led to another and Ruby thanks Lena every day for installing sound proof walls around her room, especially with her Kryptonian powers beginning to kick in.
