Work Text:

Shun looked at the door when the clock struck 12. Hajime wasn’t back from his job yet. He thought of calling but it would’ve interrupted his work and knowing Hajime, he wouldn’t be too happy with it.

“Too bad,” he sighed. “I wanted to be the first person to wish him on his birthday. I’ll just stay up until he comes home. Who knows he might be moved to the core.” Shun hummed at the idea of that.

But time was ticking slowly.

He decided to open Twitter just to read the tweets from the fans, most of them sending birthday greetings to Hajime. While a majority were in text form, some took the effort to display their collection of Hajime’s merchandise and others drew fanarts depicting Hajime celebrating his birthday with the rest of Six Gravity.

Shun wasn’t going to lose out as well. Using his own fan disguise account @HajimeLoverNo6, he too sent wishes to the main Tsukiuta account, decorating them with strings of emojis, sparkles, and hearts. Most of them were the usual “I love you, Hajime”, elaborated with moving messages of how Haji-king has changed his life and how he couldn’t live without him. He had almost posted images of his private Hajime shrine, that so far only Kai has seen by accident (and was temporarily paralyzed by it), but decided otherwise.

Shun yawned by the time the clock struck 1. It had been a long day for him as well, Procellarum’s photoshoot earlier had sapped most of his energy. His eyes were drooping against his will and the one second they closed – he fell asleep on the couch.

Hajime grumbled the moment he entered the dorm. The drama had complications earlier and they had to redo some of his scenes before he could be dismissed. Because of that, his sleeping cycle was ruined and he had to wake up at 7am for work later.

He made a beeline straight for his room before he spotted a certain whitehead lying on the couch.

“Shun?”, he murmured, aware that the Demon Lord was fast asleep. He approached the coach before catching the sight of a phone on the floor. For some reason, Shun’s display wasn’t turned off. So when Hajime decided to put the phone onto the table, he unfortunately caught glimpses of Shun’s tweets directed to him. Even though he was so used to Shun’s occasional overbearing barrage of praise and love, shudders still ran down his spine. The tweets had that level of repulsion. But at least, he convinced himself, there was some thought behind it. He himself had totally forgot that it was his 21st birthday.

It was then Shun mumbled in his sleep, “Hajime…”

At the sound of his voice, Hajime looked back at Shun’s sleeping form. He began to think that Shun resembled a human more when he slept, as if his so-called magic had been stripped away during those moments. They’ve known each other for a considerable amount of time but Shun had always been so distant due to his mysterious aura that prevented most of them from understanding what was going on in his head. In a sense, Hajime disliked that aspect of him. He’s always been able to figure things out but he could never figure this rival of his. It wasn’t that Hajime wanted to be part of Shun’s inner circle. He felt that it was unfair Shun knew so much about him and he, none of Shun apart from the fact that he was a rich kid and a natural genius.

To think about it, why was Shun sleeping on the coach of the first place? He wasn’t sure if he should wake him up or just place a blanket over him. It was late and the coach wasn’t exactly comfortable in the long run for sleeping purposes. He decided it was best to lightly shake him.

He laid his hand on the other man’s shoulder and gently shook him.

“Oi, Shun. Wake up.”

Shun woke up, slightly startled. His sight, initially blurry, immediately focused themselves on Hajime.

“Oh, Hajime. You’re back,” he said as he stifled a yawn before sitting up.

“Yeah, I just got back a short while ago. You should’ve gone to your room if you were sleepy." Hajime stood up at that moment, about to walk to his own room.

“I was waiting for you but I didn’t know you were busy last night.”

“Waiting for me? Why?”

“As your true fan, I wanted to be the first person to wish you ‘Happy Birthday Hajime’,” Shun gave him a sleepy smile to go along with it.

Hajime’s eyes widened. He knew Shun had a particular liking for him, which he had interpreted as admiration, but until today, he never knew Shun would’ve taken this amount of trouble for him.

“Uh…” he stuttered for that one rare moment of his life. He wasn’t stunned or anything but mainly because he didn’t want to further encourage Shun’s behaviour.

Shun merely tilted his head sideways, a knowing smile forming as if he figured out that his plan worked.

“Thank you..?”

The Demon Lord merely chuckled at his response.

“Oh, it’s nothing big, Hajime,” Shun rose up from his seat, standing in front of Hajime, eye-to-eye.

For a split second, Hajime thought he saw a slight change in his usual, unreadable expression. Sorrow almost.

“I love you after all.” Shun murmured, not too soft but audible enough for just the two of them to hear in their own world. He gave him a pat on the arm before walking towards Procellarum’s side of the dorm.

He knew Hajime would never take his confessions seriously. It does slightly ache but he wonders if persistence would be the key to his King’s heart. But there are stories of unrequited love for years.

And with that, Shun went to sleep, hoping to wake up in a world where Hajime would acknowledge the reality of his love.

Notes:

My first Tsukiuta fic! HajiShun is the hot ship that's sailing but the fact that there are very little stories on this couple makes me sad. Do share your thoughts and reviews so that I may improve in future stories!
