They were programmed to “enjoy” spending time with others, to find “pleasure” in “hanging out”.
They were not programmed to “fall in love”.
And why would they be? They had a role to fulfill, one of keeping the world free of cyber-crime. Falling in love would just hinder their job.
And yet.
And yet.
Why was he feeling like this? Why did he want to spend time with Seven in a way that was different than hanging out with Keita? Than with his original buddies? And was certainly different than hanging out with Magira.
“Hey, what do you think?” Keita mused, sounding somewhat thoughtful, a little mocking. “I already asked Seven.”
“Think about what?”
“Midou’s latest cellphone novel. Read it in class cause I was bored but I didn’t really get it.”
01 downloaded the novel through Keita’s actual cellphone, the one that was just a machine and not programmed to be close-to-human.
He turned the kanji into a story, but much like Keita, he didn’t get the point either.
He was not programmed to understand, to analyze stories. He was programmed to turn data into safer data, to keep certain information out of the hands of people who would use it for harm.
But… would analyzing this story get him closer to understanding his feelings for Seven?
01 read it again. It seemed silly, a girl falling for a boy after being friends for a while, but…
He read it again, editing it in a way where he and Seven were the characters.
This was a desire, was it not?
