Chapter 1: Travels

Chapter Text

Severine's POV

“So was this your plan for tomorrow?” Marcurio asked me as we were riding the carriage to Whiterun.

“Of course not. I had other things planned.” I looked at him. A purse full of gold and gems, a backpack full of trinkets and weapons stolen from dead bandits were all headed to the various shops around Whiterun.

“Like what? Another bandit den? Fighting bears outside of the cities? A quest from some guy that wouldn't know you from Another Imperial?” Marcurio was smirking.

“No. Not today at least. We just need money, a good drink, and a hearty meal right now.” I had enough money to last for the next few days.

Secunda was in full moon and Masser was hiding. Was it a bad idea to travel at night? Yes. Was I going to do it anyway? Yes. We were both high level mages. We'd live.

Suddenly an ice spike barely missed my head by a few inches. I turned quickly to see vampires attacking the carriage.

“Vampires!” I snapped as I cast a few flame spells and then cast Sun's Wrath.

Marcurio quickly used chain lightning and the carriage driver was fighting them with a steel sword. Suddenly, an icy spear hit the vampire and a woman was casting drain spells on another vampire.

“Are you okay?” The woman looked as we jumped off the carriage.

“I'm fine. Thank you. You saved our asses back there.” I put my hands on my hips.

“No problem. What's your name?” The woman asked me.

“Severine.” I responded, letting one arm rest. “You?”

“Serana.” The woman crossed her arms. “Good to meet you.”

“So where are you headed to?” I asked her.

“Well, I was looking for my companion.” Serana extended her hand.

“Here we go.” Marcurio muttered.

“What happened to them?” I raised a brow.

“Well, he was supposed to come back a few days ago from a quest and he told me to wait for him in Whiterun. He still hasn't come back.” Serana shook her head. “He might have gotten distracted with something but I just want to make sure he's not in distress.” Serana looked at me.

“I guess we can help you but we'll need to catch some sleep.” I responded as I put a hand on my waist.

“That's fair. I'm guessing you'll stay at the Bannered Mare?” Serana eyed the city walls.

“You can come with us if you would like.”
I offered. “I have a home in Whiterun.” Well it wasn't really mine. It was Uthgerds's home but she was letting me use it while she was steward at Goldenhill Plantation.

“Thanks.” Serana joined us instead of the city.

“Ah, you're the Dragonborn’s companion, where is he?” The Guard at the door greeted us.

“I'm not sure. He said he was going to wait for me here.” Serana responded in a calm tone.

“Ah, you're in luck. He just arrived. Last time I checked he was walking into Belethor's General Goods.” The Guard responded.

“Thank you!” Serana smiled as we walked away.

“Wait, you're the Dragonborn’s companion?” Marcurio's eyes widened.

“Yes, I am. Most of the time, anyways, sometimes he sends me back home.” Serana crossed her arms.

“That sounds like fun. Is it?” I asked her as we walked into the city.

“Sometimes. Except when he takes three hours looting ruins or the corpses of the bandits we attacked.” Serana shrugs.

“I could use a drink. Let's go to the Bannered Mare.” I suggested.

“Great! I'll meet you there. I'm going to see if Ezio is still at the general goods shop.” Serana walks to a building on the left.

“Okay!” I shouted at her as we entered the Bannered Mare. The smell of venison stew, fresh baked bread, and mead filled the air.

“Welcome to the Bannered Mare. Can I get you a drink or a bite to eat?” The older redhead asked us as we sat down at the bar.

“Two bowls of beef stew with a chunk of bread and some sliced Eidar cheese.” I told her.

“Anything else?” She ordered a Redguard woman to the kitchen to the left.

“Two Nord Meads, please.” Marcurio added. The woman handed us the drinks.

There was a bard singing the bootlicker song “Age of Aggression” and a guy in shitty iron armor sitting by a fire. There was a redhead in steel plate armor.

The door opens to Serana with a man in full Daedric armor. There was a Daedric sword on his back. He removes the helmets and we lock eyes.

He was tall with swarthy skin, dark hair that reached his chin, and blue eyes. After a brief moment he looks away and I look back at Marcurio.

“Are you good, Severine?” Marcurio raised a brow.

“I'm fine.” My ears and cheeks turn bright red and hot. Fuck.

“I saw that.” Marcurio grinned and then chuckled.

“Hush.” I whisper as Serana and the Dragonborn walk up to us.

“Ezio, I wanted to introduce you to some people. This is Severine and that's Marcurio.” Serana motioned to us.

“Nice to meet you.” He says, smiling.

“Nice to meet you too.” I look at him.

“So the Dragonborn, huh?” Marcurio raised a brow.

“Yeah, what about it?” Ezio raised his brow.

“You must have had lots of adventures.” Marcurio looked at him.

“Of course. I am an adventurer after all.” Ezio smiled. The redhead approached them.

“Welcome to the Bannered Mare. Can I get you something to eat or drink?” She asked Ezio and Serana.

“No, thank you.” Serana declined.

“Two Black-Briar meads.” Ezio ordered. Hulda gave him two.

“So what exactly are you doing in Whiterun?” Serana asked Ezio as he opened up a bottle.

“I was trying to find pointers from Farengar on finding the rest of the Dragon Priest masks.” Ezio sighed as he drank from them.

“I have a few.” I told him. Ezio proceeds to choke out on the mead. Serana slaps him in the back.

“What do you mean you have them?” Ezio looked at me.
