Work Text:

When two individuals are brought together in a romantic fashion, more often than not they share things. Items, friends, experiences, stories. But most importantly hobbies.

In a relationship, you and your partner must be able to mend your hobbies in reference to each other. Sometimes, you might have the same hobbies, in which you could spend time together doing those. Sometimes, you have different hobbies in which you can handle that by yourself, while also spending time with your partner, and being mindful of their hobbies. Some hobbies are learned with each other. And some hobbies are connected to each other. And with this wonderful pair of movie fanatics, there's no exception to this rule.

Anastasia and Marissa are currently getting ready for their movie date. Anastasia is getting her makeup ready in the bathroom. And Marissa is getting her clothes together in the bedroom. On the phone together, both are trying to think of a movie to watch together.

“Ok, so what genre do you want to watch?” Marissa asks. “Maybe action, for a lively performance? Or comedy for a good laugh? Or maybe we can set the mood with romance?”

“Romance, please,” Anastasia requests. “Romance dramas are always my favorite. The beautiful music, the pretty colors, the love story.”

Marissa laughs. “They're pretty amazing. I remember watching Love at Drift growing up.”

“Omg, I saw that too,” Anastasia exclaims. “The way Marcus declares his love to Diana on the cruise is so romantic.”

“And the picnic date?” Marissa says. “Absolutely golden.”

“Have you seen Dream Runners?” Anastasia asks. “I'd kill to watch that movie for the first time again. It was everything.”

“Ronnie and Josiah were practically meant to meet each other,” Marissa responds. “The yin and yang trope will never get old. Speaking of which, there is one movie I remember watching. It’s possibly my all time favorite.”

“I think we might have the same movie in mind,” Anastasia says.

“3… 2… 1..,” Marissa counts down.

“Purple Sleepover,” the two shout in unison.

“Grace and Ruby probably has the cutest, greatest, most romantic love story ever,” Marissa gushes.

“I’m so glad they got their happy ending,” Anastasia says. “When Ruby jumped off of that bridge, I thought it was over for her.”

“Yeah, but what can we say?” Marissa asks. “She’d do anything for her girlfriend. I’d jump off of a bridge for you.”

Anastasia blushes. “Really?”

“Really.”

A pang of silence follows.

“I’d jump off of a bridge for you too,” Anastasia says.

“It would defeat the purpose of my jump if you did too, you know,” Marissa jokingly responds.

The two laugh at this. “You know that’s not what I meant,” Anastasia scoffs.

Marissa looks over at the clock. “Oh shit, we’re gonna be late. I’m gonna finish getting ready, I’ll be there in 20.”

“Bye,” Anastasia says. “Love you.”

“Love you too,” Marissa responds. They hang up the phone.
