Work Text:

"Hi daddy!"

Leon smiled at the sound of his daughter's voice over the phone. He was beat up and sore after his mission and the airport was rainy and awful, but hearing from Macy was so very welcome right now... even if it was definitely past her bedtime.

"Hi, angel. What're you doing up at this hour?" he asked.

Macy got a little quiet and then whispered. "I had a question. And mommy is asleep."

A man on the tarmac waved and Leon acknowledged him then started walking toward the man and a small plane.

"I don't have too much time to talk, but what's your question?"

He could hear the small girl shift and struggle with the hand set of the telephone. "Okay. Earlier I asked mommy what you and her were like when you were kids."

"Oh yeah?" Leon said with a smile. "And what did mommy say?"

"She said you guys weren't ever kids and that she was an angel that fell from heaven. Is that true?"

Leon stifled a laugh. Claire had a habit of telling their daughter some outrageous stories.

"Sure is. In fact, I was the one who caught her before she hit the ground."

"Really?!" their daughter exclaimed.

"Not too loud, you'll wake mommy and she'll put you back to bed," Leon said as he walked across the slick tarmac. "And of course it's true. And since she's an angel that makes you an angel too. That's why we call you that." He paused then raised an eyebrow. "But what did mommy say about me?"

"She said you hatched from a human-sized egg."

Leon stopped in his tracks.

"Really? She told you that?"

"Yeah," Macy giggled. "And that you rolled out of the nest and got lost and then got raised by monkeys and that's why you leave your socks everywhere."

Leon rolled his eyes but decided to play along.

"Oh yeah... that's exactly what happened... I miss those monkeys..."

As Macy giggled some more, Leon saw the man beckon to him again.

"Hey, listen Macy," he said, "I gotta catch my flight now so I have to go. You get back to bed and I should be home around lunchtime tomorrow."

"Yay! Ok daddy, I love you!"

"I love you too, angel..." he hesitated, "Wait, one more thing."

"Yeah?"

"Your mom fell from heaven cause they kicked her out for stealing everyone's candy," he said with a impish grin.

"Really?!" Macy gasped.

"Yeah, she's real crazy for candy. So be careful if you have any. But I got to go now. Tell mommy I love her in the morning, ok?"

"Ok!"

"Bye Macy."

"Bye-bye daddy!"

There! Ok, back to bed for me
