Summary
„See me“, John echoed, his voice wavering. He had to force himself to look into those black eyes, eyes like obsidian, lifeless dead stone, but yet … John blinked. Yes, they were there, thin swirls of silver like tiny galaxies turning slowly. He swallowed hard. Those eyes should not be there. They were not meant to be there. And yet they were there, and they were disturbingly beautiful. Strange. John felt he could stare in this black, shimmering abyss for a lifetime.
Martin touched his hand, and he startled. „It’s impossible“, John whispered. He felt Martin’s fingers curl around his shoulder, grounding him in the moment. None of them spoke. The lingering tension made John’s skin crawl. He heard his own heart pounding so loudly he was sure Martin and Elias must hear it. He nearly couldn’t breathe.
„I see you, Archivist“, Elias rasped, and John nearly jumped again.
„How?“ He found himself staring into those black pools again, feeling the vertigo rising, although he safely sat in that old plastic hospital room chair.
