Summary
Omegas are the only dynamic capable of childbearing. Omegas, also, comprise only 5% of the Japanese population. Although the reasons for their abruptly low numbers were unexplained by science, the consequences were clear to all-- and with birth rates plummeting to catastrophic levels, the people grew desperate. Spurred by the words of one charismatic leader, they decided that the survival of society was more important than the wellbeing of the vulnerable. So it went, for decades.
Saihara Shuichi had a normal life. He worked part-time at his uncle's detective agency. He had dreams of getting a degree and becoming a detective himself. Most importantly, he thought he was a Beta. But one night, after a strange encounter with a runaway omega, he comes home...different. Multiple years late, he presents as an omega himself. No longer permitted at his high school, he's transferred to a dreary boarding academy in the rural woods of Honshu, where he has to learn how to fulfill his new, sole duty to the country; as a mate and father.
