Chapter Text

“Aww, cute.”

Roman looked over his shoulder as soon as he stopped hearing Dennis’ footsteps behind him. He caught him picking up a bag of marshmallows.

Light pink and in the shape of hearts.

“I’d put these in a hot chocolate if it wasn’t so...hot in my apartment all the time.”

“You can put it in a cold chocolate.”

“So…a mug of chocolate milk?”

Roman shrugged. “Sure. Or that.”

Dennis bit back the urge to comment on how cute he was. Luckily Roman chimed in again before he could make a fool of himself.

“Do they actually taste like strawberries?”

“I dunno. Maybe? There’s a lot of them still here though, so…probably not.”

“You’ve never had ‘em before?”

“No, never really had a reason to.”

“You need a reason to buy marshmallows?”

“These kind, yes. They’re…supposed to be special or something.”

Dennis tossed them back into the pile on display and continued walking down the aisle. Roman bobbed his head back and forth between him and the candy.

“You’re not gettin’ ‘em?”

Dennis looked over his shoulder and shook his head.

“But you said they were cute.”

He pushed his eyebrows inward.

“I can’t buy stuff like that for myself, Roman. It’s too sad.”

Roman stared at the marshmallows for a second longer before grabbing them and dunking them in their cart. Dennis’ eyes went saucer-like.

“Uhm.”

“What?”

“Nothing just…Are you buying those for me?”

“Don’t you wanna know what they actually taste like?”

The thought of sharing a marshmallow with Roman, their lips brushing against each other, crossed Dennis’ mind.

“Yeah, I guess so.”

“Okay. Then yes. And, it's not that hot in my apartment so...maybe I can make us some hot chocolate to put 'em in.”

A smile danced over Dennis’ face, his cheeks burning the same shade as the marshmallows.

“You're- That's so sweet. Thank you, Roman.”

“Well, I haven't bought 'em yet... I should grab a thing of Nesquik while we're here. I know I suggested my place, but I don't actually have what we need over there...”

“Oh, that's fine. But, still. I wanna say thanks. In advance, you know?”

Roman smiled back at him. “Hey, it's no sweat.”

The young men continued their shopping side by side, passing by the other heart-shaped candies and feeling content with what they had.

“So, uh…You wanna maybe play Chubby Bunny with them, too? Have ourselves a rematch while we're at it?” Dennis asked in a librarian whisper.

“Hell yeah.” Roman nudged him gently on the shoulder.

The pink across Dennis' face grew to crimson.

“Sweet.”

He'd take that.
