Furrever

Summary:

A tiny dachshund puppy and a shy black kitten meet for the first time and decide that fear is easier when it’s shared.

From clumsy paws and curious noses to cuddles, grooming, shared naps, and growing up side by side, Jimin and Yoongi build a life full of sunspots, soft mornings, couch cuddles, storm comfort, and gentle love.

They play, they tease, they nap, they protect each other, and they grow into something inseparable — a quiet, fluffy kind of forever that turns a house into a home and makes even the humans a little jealous.

Work Text:

Jimin had always felt safe in his house. He knew every smell, every sound, every corner of the living room and every soft place on the couch. He knew Taehyung’s footsteps, Jungkook’s voice, the way the door sounded when it opened, and the way the air felt when the windows were cracked. Everything in his world was familiar, warm, and gentle. That was his whole life: small, cozy, predictable, and full of love.

So when the door opened and a new smell came in, his body noticed before his mind did.

He lifted his head slowly from the rug, ears falling forward, eyes blinking as he tried to understand what was different. The air felt unfamiliar. Soft, but strange. Not sharp. Not scary. Just new. His little chest tightened, heart starting to beat faster as his nose worked quietly, pulling in the scent. His paws moved on their own, slow and careful, as he stood up and walked toward the door.

Jungkook’s voice was gentle.
“Taehyung, I brought someone home.”

Jimin didn’t understand the words, but he understood the tone. Something important. Something different.

Then he saw the carrier.

Small. Dark. Moving. Alive.

His body froze, long little legs stiff, tail lifting without him meaning to. His heart beat harder. Faster. His ears tilted forward. Everything in him focused on that one object.

The carrier opened slowly.

And the world changed.

Out stepped a tiny black kitten.

So small. So quiet. So soft.

His fur was dark like night, smooth and clean. His eyes were wide and round, shining with fear and curiosity at the same time. His body stayed low to the ground, paws moving carefully, like the floor itself might not be safe. He didn’t run. He didn’t make a sound. He just looked.

Yoongi.

He saw the long, strange puppy in front of him and froze.

Two small animals. Two tiny hearts. Beating too fast. Too loud.

They stared at each other in silence.

The room felt quiet.

Jimin lowered himself slowly, belly close to the floor, tail trembling softly behind him. He didn’t know why he did it — it just felt right. His nose twitched as he smelled the kitten for the first time. Warm fur. Soft breath. Clean scent. Something gentle. Something innocent. Something that didn’t feel like danger.

Yoongi stayed still, eyes wide, whiskers twitching as he smelled the puppy back. Warm. Alive. Nervous. Kind. Strange, but not scary.

The space between them felt important. Heavy. Delicate.

Jimin took one small step forward.

Yoongi flinched, body tensing, eyes widening.

Jimin froze instantly, heart pounding in his chest, fear and worry mixing together in his tiny body. He didn’t want to scare him. He didn’t even know what he was — only that this small black creature felt fragile.

They stayed like that for a long moment.

Then Yoongi moved. Just a little.

A slow lean forward. Careful. Curious. Brave.

Their noses didn’t touch, but they came close enough to share breath, warmth, and scent. Close enough to feel each other’s presence. Close enough for their tiny worlds to overlap.

Jimin’s tail wagged once.

Yoongi blinked slowly, eyes closing for just a second, then opening again.

They stayed there, breathing together, trembling softly, learning from each other in silence. Two tiny lives meeting for the first time. Two small hearts trying to understand something new and unfamiliar.

Not enemies.

Not friends.

Not anything yet.

Just two little souls feeling something simple and quiet:

You don’t feel like danger.

Taehyung stood with his hands over his mouth, eyes full. Jungkook smiled softly, watching the moment like it was something fragile and sacred.

Jimin didn’t know what a cat was.

Yoongi didn’t know what a dog was.

But in that quiet living room, in that soft light, in that gentle space between two humans who loved them, something small and beautiful began.

Jimin learned very quickly that Yoongi was small in ways that had nothing to do with size. He was quiet, gentle, careful with his movements, and he didn’t take up much space in the room or in the air. He didn’t rush, didn’t run, didn’t crash into things the way Jimin did when he got excited. He existed softly, like he was always trying not to disturb the world around him. Jimin didn’t understand what a cat was, but he understood small and gentle and fragile, and something deep in his chest responded to that feeling in a warm, protective way.

One afternoon, while Yoongi sat curled near the couch, his black fur blending into the shadows, Jimin sat across the room and watched him. His head tilted slightly, ears drooping forward, eyes following every small movement Yoongi made: the quiet stretch of a paw, the slow blink, the soft rise and fall of his tiny chest. The room was calm, filled with quiet light and soft air, and Jimin felt something heavy and warm in his chest that he didn’t have words for. It wasn’t excitement. It wasn’t fear. It was a simple feeling of wanting to care for something.

Slowly, carefully, Jimin stood up and walked toward his toy pile. It was the familiar spot in the house where Taehyung always put his things — plush toys, ropes, balls, things that smelled like home and felt safe and warm. Jimin lowered his head and began to search through them with his nose, tail wagging slowly as he sniffed and pushed them aside. He didn’t grab the loud squeaky toy or the big rough rope or the heavy ball. He moved gently, choosing carefully, like he knew this decision mattered. Finally, he picked the smallest plush toy he had, something soft and light, something clean and gentle that felt safe to carry.

He took the toy in his mouth and turned back toward Yoongi, moving slower than he ever did when he carried toys. His body was careful, controlled, gentle, like he was afraid of doing something wrong. Step by step, he crossed the room, ears relaxed, eyes soft, tail moving slowly behind him. When Yoongi looked up, wide-eyed and still, Jimin stopped a few steps away. He didn’t rush forward, didn’t jump, didn’t bark, didn’t make noise. He just stood there quietly, holding the toy, watching Yoongi with patient eyes.

Then, slowly, he lowered his head and placed the toy on the floor between them. The room felt quiet and full again, like something important had just happened even though nothing loud or big had occurred. Yoongi stared at the toy, then at Jimin, then back at the toy, confusion and curiosity mixing in his wide eyes. Jimin sat down gently, tail wagging softly, and waited without moving closer, without pushing, without forcing anything. He simply stayed.

Time passed quietly in the space between them. A few breaths. A few heartbeats. Then Yoongi moved, slowly and carefully, extending one small paw toward the toy. He touched it lightly, then pulled his paw back, watching for movement that didn’t come. The toy stayed still, soft and harmless. Yoongi sniffed it, then looked up at Jimin again, as if trying to understand what this meant. Jimin’s tail wagged a little faster, his body still calm and gentle, his eyes warm.

Finally, Yoongi pulled the toy closer to his body and curled slightly around it, not fully playing with it, not fully claiming it, just holding it near like something precious he wasn’t sure how to use yet. Jimin felt warmth spread through his chest, a quiet sense of rightness, like he had done something good without knowing why. He lowered himself to the floor and lay down, chin resting on his paws, facing Yoongi, leaving a small space between them that felt safe and calm.

They stayed like that in the quiet room, not touching, not moving much, just existing together. Yoongi blinked slowly, relaxed for the first time since coming into the house, and Jimin blinked back, calm and content. Nothing big happened. No noise. No excitement. No chaos. Just two small lives sharing space, learning each other gently, one soft toy resting between them as a quiet bridge of trust and kindness.

Yoongi learned about gifts by watching Jimin.

He saw how Jimin brought toys, how he placed them gently on the floor, how he sat back and waited, how his tail wagged slowly, how his eyes stayed soft and patient. Yoongi didn’t understand toys the same way, but he understood the feeling behind it. He understood that it meant care, that it meant I thought about you, that it meant this is for you. In his own quiet, instinctive way, Yoongi wanted to do the same thing.

Cats didn’t think in words, but they thought on purpose.

So when Yoongi found the cockroach, he didn’t see anything disgusting or scary.

He saw something important. Something that meant: I bring this to you.

It was early morning, the house quiet and soft, light slipping through the curtains. Jimin was lying on the rug, half asleep, paws stretched out, ears relaxed, breathing slow and peaceful. He felt safe. The world felt gentle.

Yoongi moved through the house silently, small body low to the floor, carrying the dead cockroach carefully in his mouth like it was something fragile and precious. His steps were slow and deliberate, tail low, eyes focused. He didn’t rush. He didn’t play. He didn’t stop. He was on a mission.

When he reached Jimin, he stopped right in front of him.

Jimin lifted his head slowly, still sleepy, eyes blinking as he focused.

And then he saw it. The tiny brown body. The legs. The shape. The smell. His brain didn’t understand. His instincts did. He froze. His ears tilted back slightly. His nose wrinkled. His body went very still.

Yoongi gently dropped the cockroach in front of Jimin’s paws and sat down.

In Yoongi’s mind, this was simple.

This was a gift. This was love. This was care.

This was I brought you something important.

Jimin stared at the cockroach. Then at Yoongi. Then back at the cockroach.

Confusion filled his whole body. His tail stopped moving. His ears twitched. His heart started beating faster, not in fear, but in total disbelief. His small puppy brain could not process what was happening.

But then he looked at Yoongi’s face. The calm eyes. The quiet posture. The still body. The gentle energy. The trust. The expectation. And something in Jimin understood. Not the object. But the meaning. This wasn’t dangerous. This wasn’t play. This wasn’t chaos. This was an offering. This was shared. This was kindness in a form Jimin didn’t understand. So Jimin didn’t bark. He leaned forward slowly, sniffed the cockroach once, then pulled his head back and looked at Yoongi again. His tail gave one small, unsure wag. His ears relaxed. His body softened.

Yoongi blinked slowly.

Jimin blinked back.

Acceptance.

Not of the cockroach.

But of the intention.

Jimin gently touched the cockroach with his paw, not really knowing what to do, just copying the idea of receiving. Then he looked back at Yoongi and wagged his tail again, a little more this time.

Yoongi’s body relaxed. Mission successful. Gift delivered.

Taehyung’s scream came a second later.

“YOONGI— OH MY GOD— WHY— WHY IS THERE A DEAD ROACH ON MY FLOOR—”

Jungkook’s laugh followed immediately.

“Oh my god, babe. He brought it as a gift. Cats do that.”

Taehyung looked horrified.

Jimin looked confused. Yoongi looked proud.

Jimin didn’t understand why the humans were loud. Yoongi didn’t understand why they were upset. All he knew was that he had done something important. He had given something. And Jimin had accepted it. Not the gift. But the love behind it. He had shared something valuable. He had followed instinct and care and love in the only way he knew how. The connection had been made. The offering had been accepted. Everything felt right.

The room was filled with noise, fast movements, big energy, and chaos that made no sense to him. Taehyung’s voice went high and panicked, Jungkook started laughing, feet moved quickly across the floor, and suddenly the calm space felt loud and messy and confusing. Yoongi stayed still, ears slightly back, eyes wide, trying to understand what had gone wrong.

Jimin didn’t move either. He just sat there, small body stiff, eyes going from Yoongi to the humans and back again, not understanding the sudden shift in energy. The world had gone from quiet and gentle to loud and strange in seconds.

Taehyung grabbed paper towels and cleaning spray, moving fast and dramatic, carefully scooping up the cockroach like it was something dangerous and forbidden. Jungkook followed him, still laughing, trying to calm him down while also trying not to step too close. The humans talked in fast voices, using words Yoongi didn’t understand, but the tone was clear: upset, stressed, urgent.

Yoongi watched and slowly, something in him changed.

The gift was taken. The offering was removed. The thing he had brought with purpose and care was treated like trash. His ears lowered. His body stiffened. His tail flicked once. Then twice.

His eyes narrowed slightly, not angry, but deeply confused and offended in a quiet, wounded way. He had not brought danger. He had not brought chaos. He had brought something meaningful. And now the humans were erasing it like it had never mattered.

Jimin sensed the shift immediately. He moved closer to Yoongi without thinking, sitting near him, long body curved protectively. He didn’t understand what was happening, but he understood the feeling in Yoongi’s body: the tension, the confusion, the discomfort. His tail moved slowly, and he leaned slightly toward Yoongi, offering quiet presence instead of noise.

Yoongi looked at Jimin.

Then at the humans.

Then back at Jimin.

The room smelled like cleaning spray now instead of purpose and instinct. The floor was wiped. The space where the gift had been was empty. Gone. Clean. Nothing left.

Yoongi felt something like rejection, even if he didn’t have a word for it.

He sat down slowly, tail wrapped around his paws, posture small and tight. He didn’t hide. He didn’t run. He just… withdrew. Pulled inward. Quiet. Still. Offended. Deeply.

Taehyung finally noticed and froze. His voice softened. “Oh no… baby, I’m sorry… I didn’t mean— I just— it was a cockroach—”

Jungkook crouched down, still smiling but gentler now. “He thought he was helping. He thought he was giving a gift.”

Yoongi didn’t care about the words.

He cared about the feeling.

Jimin leaned closer and gently pressed his side against Yoongi’s, offering warmth, contact, comfort in the simplest way he knew how. His head rested lightly near Yoongi’s shoulder, ears relaxed, body calm.

Yoongi didn’t move away.

He leaned back.

Just a little.

The humans cleaned. The chaos faded. The noise softened. The house returned to quiet. But Yoongi stayed offended.  Dignified. Silent. Wounded in his tiny cat pride.

Yoongi disappeared after the cleaning.

Not fast. Not dramatic. Not loud. He didn’t run or panic or hide in fear. He simply moved away quietly, slipping under the low table in the living room where the shadows were thick and the space felt small and safe. It wasn’t hiding in the way fear hides — it was sulking, quiet and wounded and private. The world had felt wrong, and he needed a place where it couldn’t reach him.

Under the furniture, everything felt smaller and quieter. The sounds of the house were muffled. The air felt still. The space felt controlled. Yoongi curled into himself, tail wrapped around his body, eyes half-closed, ears low. He didn’t want noise. He didn’t want attention. He didn’t want confusion. He just wanted calm and distance and time to settle the strange feeling in his chest that he didn’t understand.

Jimin noticed immediately.

He noticed the absence before he noticed anything else. The quiet where Yoongi should be. The empty space near the rug. The missing warmth. His little puppy brain didn’t understand sulking, but he understood when someone was gone, and he understood when the room felt wrong.

He moved slowly through the house, nose low to the ground, sniffing carefully, following the soft trail of Yoongi’s scent. His tail wagged slowly, not excited, not playful, just hopeful. When he found Yoongi under the table, he stopped a short distance away, lowering his body so he didn’t feel big or loud or overwhelming.

Yoongi saw him.

But he didn’t move.

He didn’t hiss, growl or run.

He just stayed still, eyes watching, body tight, small and closed.

Jimin lay down on the floor in front of the table, stretching his long body out so he looked smaller and softer. He didn’t try to crawl under. He didn’t bark. He didn’t whine. He didn’t push into space. He just stayed there, breathing slowly, eyes gentle, presence calm.

They stayed like that for a long moment.

Sharing the same air.

Yoongi’s breathing slowly softened.

The tension in his body eased just a little.

Jimin’s tail moved slowly against the floor. Not excitement. Comfort.

Then Jimin stood up. He turned and walked away.

Yoongi watched him go, eyes following his long body, ears tilting forward slightly, confusion replacing some of the offense.

Jimin went to his toy pile.

The same one as before.

He lowered his head and searched again, nose moving gently through the familiar shapes and smells. He didn’t grab the loud toys. He didn’t grab the big ones. He chose carefully, intentionally, with quiet focus.

He picked a soft plush toy. The same kind he had chosen before.

He carried it carefully back across the room, body slow, movements calm. When he reached the table, he stopped in front of Yoongi’s hiding place and lowered himself down.

Then he gently placed the toy near the edge of the table.

Not inside. Not too close. Not invasive. Just near enough to be seen. An offering. An apology. A message in the only language he knew.

Yoongi stared at the toy. Then at Jimin. Then back at the toy.

His ears lifted slightly.

His body relaxed just a little.

The offense didn’t disappear.

But something softened.

Slowly, carefully, Yoongi moved forward, stretching one paw out and pulling the toy toward himself. He didn’t play with it. He didn’t bite it. He just brought it closer and curled around it, holding it near his chest.

Jimin’s tail wagged once. Relieved.

He lay down again in front of the table, chin on his paws, staying close but not crowding, present without pressure.

Yoongi stayed under the furniture, but he didn’t feel alone anymore.

The world still felt confusing. The humans still didn’t understand his gifts. But Jimin did. Not in words. Not in thoughts. But in feeling. In intention. And that was enough to ease the offense.

Enough to calm the sulk. Enough to make the world feel safe again.

The humans settled back into their routines. The air felt soft again, warm and familiar, full of the quiet comfort of home. Light moved gently across the floor, and the living room returned to the peaceful stillness that Jimin loved.

Yoongi stayed under the table for a while, curled around the plush toy Jimin had brought him, small body tucked in tight, tail wrapped close. The offense was still there, but it had softened, dulled by warmth and safety and quiet. The toy smelled like Jimin. The air smelled like home. The space no longer felt sharp or wrong.

Jimin stayed nearby the whole time, lying on the floor in front of the table, chin resting on his paws, eyes half-lidded. He didn’t move much. He didn’t push. He didn’t make noise. He just stayed, breathing slowly, keeping the space gentle and safe. His presence was calm, steady, and patient. A quiet promise that he wasn’t going anywhere.

Slowly, carefully, Yoongi moved.

It wasn’t sudden.

It wasn’t dramatic.

It was a small decision made in silence.

He pushed the toy forward, then shifted his body, inch by inch, until he was closer to the edge of the table. His eyes stayed on Jimin. His movements were cautious, controlled, gentle.

Jimin lifted his head slightly, but didn’t move closer.

He waited.

Yoongi reached the edge of the shadow and paused. Light touched his fur. Warmth reached his body. He hesitated for a moment, then took another small step forward and stepped out from under the furniture.

The room felt different with him in it again.

Yoongi walked slowly toward Jimin, carrying the plush toy with him, and stopped just in front of his paws. He placed it down, then sat beside Jimin, not touching yet, just close enough to feel the warmth of his body.

Jimin’s tail moved once, slow and soft.

Yoongi leaned in. Just a little. Their sides touched. And neither of them moved away. The contact was small, but it felt big. Important. Safe.

Jimin lowered his head slowly and gently nudged Yoongi’s head with his nose, a soft, careful touch that held no force, no pressure, just presence. Yoongi didn’t flinch. He leaned into it instead, pressing his small head against Jimin’s chest.

Then, quietly, naturally, grooming began.

Yoongi lifted his head and licked Jimin’s fur once.

Then again.

Small, careful licks, slow and gentle, like he was fixing something that had been broken, like he was saying something he didn’t have words for.

Jimin stayed still. Calm and trusting.

Then he responded in his own way, lowering his head and licking the top of Yoongi’s head softly, slowly, gently, his tongue warm and careful not to overwhelm.

They groomed each other in silence, small movements, soft touches, quiet care, until their bodies relaxed and the tension faded completely from the space between them.

Slowly, sleep came.

Yoongi curled into Jimin’s side, small body tucked against his chest, tail wrapped around his paws. Jimin curved his long body around Yoongi without even thinking, instinct pulling him closer, creating a warm, protective shape around the tiny cat.

Their breathing synced. The plush toy rested near them, forgotten but still there. The room filled with quiet again. Not the heavy quiet of sulking. But the gentle quiet of peace.

Two small bodies. Two warm hearts. Two souls learning how to exist together.

They slept like that, tangled softly, breathing the same air, wrapped in warmth and safety and trust.

Night came gently in the house.

The light outside faded slowly, turning gold into blue, and the living room filled with soft shadows and warm lamps. The noises of the day disappeared one by one until only quiet remained: the hum of the house, the soft sounds of breathing, the gentle stillness that comes when everything feels safe.

Jimin and Yoongi stayed close.

They didn’t follow a routine yet, not really. They didn’t have rules or habits or patterns, but they had each other’s presence, and that felt like enough. After their shared nap, they moved slowly through the space together, staying near, always aware of where the other was. If Jimin stood, Yoongi watched. If Yoongi moved, Jimin followed with his eyes. There was a quiet awareness between them, a growing connection that didn’t need words.

As the humans prepared for bed, the house filled with familiar sounds —water running, soft voices, footsteps, the quiet movements of night routines. Jimin followed Taehyung for a while, tail moving lazily, while Yoongi stayed closer to Jungkook, watching from a distance, learning the rhythms of the house. But even when they were in different parts of the room, they were still connected by awareness, by presence, by the quiet understanding that the other existed and mattered.

Eventually, they found their place again. A soft blanket near the couch.

Yoongi approached first, stepping carefully onto the fabric, sniffing it, turning in a small circle before settling down. Jimin followed, lowering himself beside him, long body folding into the space naturally, instinctively creating warmth and shelter.

They didn’t rush into contact.

They let it happen slowly.

Yoongi shifted closer first, pressing his side against Jimin’s chest. Jimin responded by curving his body slightly around him, creating a soft barrier from the rest of the room, a quiet, protective shape.

Grooming happened again, naturally, without thought. Yoongi licked Jimin’s fur in small, careful movements, slow and steady. Jimin returned it gently, warm tongue against soft fur, careful not to overwhelm, just offering comfort and connection. It wasn’t messy. It wasn’t playful. It was calm, deliberate, tender.

Their breathing slowed. Their bodies relaxed. The house dimmed. The night wrapped around them softly.

They fell asleep together, warm and close, wrapped in quiet trust and growing love, two small lives learning how to share space, warmth, and safety.

Morning came gently too.

Light slipped through the curtains, pale and soft, touching the floor, warming the blanket. The house stayed quiet, still asleep, wrapped in early silence.

Jimin woke first.

His eyes opened slowly, blinking in the soft light. His body felt warm. Heavy. Safe. He didn’t move right away. He just breathed, aware of the small weight against his chest.

Yoongi.

Curled against him. Asleep. Small chest rising and falling slowly. Warm fur pressed into his side.

Jimin stayed still, careful not to disturb him.

His tail moved once, slow and soft, barely touching the floor.

After a moment, Yoongi stirred.

His eyes opened slowly, adjusting to the light. For a second, confusion passed through his face — unfamiliar space, unfamiliar light — and then he felt the warmth, the presence, the steady body beside him.

Jimin. Safe. Familiar. Home.

Yoongi relaxed again, pressing closer instead of pulling away. He lifted his head and gently licked Jimin’s chest, slow and sleepy, a soft greeting instead of a full movement.

Jimin responded by lowering his head and nudging Yoongi gently with his nose, a quiet hello, a simple connection.

They stayed like that for a while, half-awake, half-asleep, breathing the same air, wrapped in warmth and light and silence.

Just two small souls waking up together for the first time, learning that morning didn’t have to be lonely when you weren’t alone anymore.

But morning didn’t stay quiet for long.

The house slowly woke up, and with it came movement, light, and sound. The humans started moving through the rooms, voices low and sleepy, footsteps soft on the floor, the smell of breakfast drifting through the air. The calm of the early morning shifted into gentle life, and the stillness of sleep gave way to the rhythm of a new day.

Jimin felt it first. Energy. Warmth. Excitement. Life buzzing in his small body.

He stretched his long little legs, paws pushing into the blanket, back arching, tail starting to move faster without him meaning to. His body felt full of energy, full of curiosity, full of the simple joy of being awake. Everything felt new again. Interesting. Alive.

Yoongi did not feel the same.

He stayed curled into himself, small black body warm and heavy with sleep, eyes barely opening before closing again. The light felt too bright. The sounds felt too loud. The world felt too awake. He shifted slightly, tucking his head closer to Jimin’s chest, choosing warmth and safety over movement.

Jimin noticed immediately.

He leaned down and nudged Yoongi gently with his nose, tail wagging faster now, body full of quiet excitement. He wanted to move. He wanted to play. He wanted to explore. The world felt big and full and ready.

Yoongi made a small sound and shifted, eyes opening halfway, blinking slowly in sleepy confusion. He looked at Jimin, then at the room, then back at Jimin, clearly not ready for the day.

Jimin licked the top of Yoongi’s head once, quick and affectionate, then bounced back slightly, paws shifting, energy building in his body like he might burst. His tail wagged faster, ears perking, body vibrating with excitement.

Yoongi stared at him. Unimpressed. Sleepy. Still.

He slowly stood up, stretched once, long and slow, then turned in a small circle and sat back down, clearly choosing rest over chaos. His eyes followed Jimin’s movements, but his body stayed relaxed, unbothered.

Jimin ran a small circle around the blanket, paws tapping the floor, excitement spilling out of him. He came back and nudged Yoongi again, trying to invite him into his energy, trying to share the joy he felt in his whole body.

Yoongi responded by lifting one paw and gently placing it on Jimin’s face.

Not aggressive. Not playful. Just… a soft boundary. A quiet message. Too much.

Jimin froze. Then sat. Then lay down. Instantly calmer.

His energy didn’t disappear, but it softened. He leaned closer to Yoongi, pressing his side against him, choosing closeness over chaos. His tail still moved, but slower now, gentler, matching Yoongi’s calm.

Yoongi relaxed again, eyes closing halfway, body settling into the warmth.

This became their rhythm.

Not one adjusting fully to the other.

But both learning how to meet in the middle.

Days passed.

Then weeks.

Then months.

And slowly, quietly, they grew.

Jimin grew longer and stronger, his body stretching, his legs filling out, his puppy energy turning into playful confidence. Yoongi grew steadier, braver, his small body becoming more sure, his movements more relaxed, his fear slowly replaced with curiosity.

But the pattern stayed. Jimin was the energy. Yoongi was the calm. Jimin was movement. Yoongi was stillness. Jimin was excitement. Yoongi was quiet comfort.

They learned each other’s rhythms the way hearts learn beats, naturally, without effort, without thinking, without forcing change.

When Jimin was too loud, Yoongi grounded him.

When Yoongi was too withdrawn, Jimin softened him.

They slept together. They ate near each other. They followed each other. They shared space without fear. They grew up not as two separate lives, but as two connected ones. Not identical. Not mirrored. But balanced. Different in the ways that mattered. Perfect in the ways that felt right.

And in the quiet rhythm of daily life, in the soft chaos of puppy energy and sleepy kitty calm, they became something simple and beautiful. Not just companions. Not just pets. But family.

They were not babies anymore.

Jimin was longer now, stronger, faster, all legs and energy and confidence. His puppy clumsiness had turned into teenage chaos, his movements bold and playful, his excitement loud in every step he took. Yoongi had grown too: sleeker, quicker, smarter, his fear replaced with curiosity and attitude, his quietness turning into calm confidence and mild arrogance.

They understood each other now.

Not perfectly. But enough. Enough to tease. Enough to play.

Enough to communicate in their own strange language of movement, sound, and presence.

It started with Jimin. Of course it did.

He spotted Yoongi sitting on the windowsill, watching birds outside, tail flicking slowly in that calm, focused way that meant he was fully in his own world. Jimin’s ears perked. His tail lifted. His whole body filled with one thought.

Play.

He approached slowly, exaggeratedly slow, paws light, body low, eyes locked on Yoongi. His tail wagged in wide, dramatic swings.

Yoongi noticed immediately.

Without even turning his head, he said calmly,
Don’t.”

Jimin froze.

Then took another step.

Yoongi flicked his tail.
“I said don’t.”

Jimin’s tail wagged harder.

Then he pounced.

Not on Yoongi — beside him — just enough to startle, just enough to provoke.

Yoongi jumped, fur puffing slightly.
“JIMIN—!”

Jimin barked once, playful and sharp.
“Play! Play! Play!”

Yoongi leapt off the windowsill and bolted.

Jimin chased instantly.

The house filled with the sound of paws on the floor, claws skidding slightly, furniture being dodged, corners being cut too tightly. Yoongi was fast, sleek, sharp in his turns. Jimin was powerful, fast, and clumsy, sliding into walls and tripping over rugs.

Yoongi darted under the table.

Jimin tried to follow.

Got stuck.

“Seriously?” Yoongi said, sitting just out of reach. “You’re too big for this now.”

Jimin huffed and backed out, shaking himself.
“Rude.”

Yoongi flicked his tail in his face.
“Slow.”

Jimin barked.
“Mean.”

Yoongi jumped onto the couch.

Jimin followed.

Yoongi leapt onto the back of the couch.

Jimin tried.

Missed.

Slid down.

“HA,” Yoongi said smugly. “Gravity’s not your friend.”

Jimin stared at him.

Then ran around the couch and jumped from the other side.

This time, he made it.

They froze face to face, breathing fast, eyes bright, bodies tense with playful energy.

Jimin dropped into a play bow, front paws low, back end high, tail wagging wildly “Come on.”

Yoongi narrowed his eyes.
“Absolutely not.”

Jimin barked softly.
“Coward.”

Yoongi slapped his nose with one paw.
“Idiot.”

Jimin froze, then sneezed dramatically.

They stared at each other for one second.

Then both attacked. Not aggressive. Not violent. Just chaos.

Rolling, tumbling, paws and tails and fur and noise, playful bites and soft kicks, teasing swats and exaggerated reactions. Jimin was loud and dramatic. Yoongi was sharp and fast and precise.

“Stop biting my ears!” Jimin yelped.

“Then stop stepping on my tail!” Yoongi snapped.

“YOU ran under me!”

“YOU’RE HUGE!”

They broke apart, breathing fast, bodies buzzing with energy, eyes bright.

Yoongi groomed his paw calmly.
“You’re annoying.”

Jimin wagged his tail.
“You love me.”

Yoongi flicked his ear.
“Debatable.”

Jimin leaned in and licked his face.

Yoongi gagged.
“Disgusting.”

Jimin barked happily.
“Affection.”

They collapsed next to each other, sides touching, breathing slowing, energy fading into warmth and comfort.

Yoongi sighed.
“Okay, maybe a little.”

Jimin rested his head on Yoongi’s side.
“I know.”

They lay there in the quiet after chaos, bodies warm, hearts calm, learning each other’s languages more and more every day: learning when to push, when to stop, when to chase, when to rest, when to tease, when to comfort.

Not perfect communication. But real. Not silence. But understanding. Two teenagers growing into themselves. Growing into each other. Learning how to love in noise, chaos, teasing, and warmth.

The couch was sacred territory. Prime sleeping spot. Best view of the TV. Best sun angle. Best human access. Best everything.

And today, it was occupied.

Yoongi was already there.

Curled perfectly into the corner cushion, tail wrapped around his body, eyes half-closed, soaking in the sun like he owned the place. His posture was calm, confident, comfortable — the body language of someone who had claimed a space and had no intention of moving.

Jimin entered the living room, saw the couch, saw Yoongi, and froze.

His ears lifted. His tail started wagging. His eyes locked.
“That’s my spot,” he said.

Yoongi didn’t even open his eyes.
“No, it’s a couch.”

Jimin walked closer, sniffed the edge of the cushion dramatically, then looked at Yoongi.
“You’re in my place.”

Yoongi opened one eye slowly.
“You mean the public furniture?”

Jimin huffed.
“You’re literally in my corner.”

Yoongi stretched, long and slow, taking up even more space.
“Not anymore.”

Jimin stared. Offended. Disrespected. Emotionally wounded.

He climbed onto the couch and tried to sit beside Yoongi.

Yoongi immediately pushed him with one paw.
“Too close.”

Jimin leaned in more.
“We cuddle here.”

Yoongi slapped his nose lightly.
“Not when you’re sweaty.”

Jimin gasped dramatically.
“I’m not sweaty. I’m warm.”

Yoongi flicked his tail in his face.
“You smell like outside.”

Jimin barked.
“Rude.”

Yoongi shifted again, stretching even more.
“Personal space.”

Jimin flopped his body sideways, deliberately invading Yoongi’s space.
“This is shared furniture.”

Yoongi hissed softly.
“You’re a space hog.”

Jimin rested his head on Yoongi’s side.
“You’re dramatic.”

Yoongi tried to move. Jimin followed. Yoongi moved again. Jimin followed again.

They started doing the silent territorial dance — shifting, scooting, adjusting, nudging, pushing, stretching — neither willing to give up the space, neither willing to fully start a fight.

From the kitchen, Taehyung watched with his arms crossed.
“They’re fighting over the couch.”

Jungkook sipped his drink.
“Again.”

Yoongi swatted Jimin’s ear.
“Move.”

Jimin barked softly.
“No.”

Yoongi growled quietly.
“This is my nap.”

Jimin wagged his tail.
“This is my couch.”

Yoongi sat up fully.
“You don’t own furniture.”

Jimin stood up dramatically.
“I was here first in this house.”

Yoongi flicked his ear.
“I was adopted.”

Jimin paused. Then blinked. Then sat back down.
“That’s emotional manipulation.”

Yoongi smirked.
“Works though.”

Taehyung covered his mouth, trying not to laugh.
“They’re literally arguing.”

Jungkook nodded seriously.
“Like children.”

Yoongi tried to jump to the back of the couch. Jimin blocked him. Yoongi tried the other side. Jimin blocked again.

“STOP,” Yoongi snapped.

“YOU started it,” Jimin barked back.

They both froze, breathing fast, staring at each other like dramatic teenagers in a soap opera.

Then Yoongi sighed dramatically and flopped down. Jimin immediately flopped too. They ended up pressed together anyway. Side by side. Touching. Breathing slowing. Silence returning.

Yoongi muttered, “I hate you.”

Jimin rested his head on Yoongi’s side.
“You love me.”

Yoongi flicked his ear.
“Unfortunately.”

Taehyung smiled softly.
“They always end up cuddling.”

Jungkook nodded.
“Every time.”

The humans sat on the other couch, watching them like tired parents watching siblings fight over nothing, knowing exactly how it would end.

Two teenage souls pretending they don’t need each other. While literally glued together.

The chaos started in the hallway.

It always did.

Jimin had found a sock. Not his sock. Not a toy. Not something meant for him.

A human sock.

Which, in Jimin logic, meant treasure.

He grabbed it and bolted. Yoongi saw him immediately. Eyes narrowed. Tail flicked.

“Don’t,” Yoongi said calmly.

Jimin sprinted faster.

“IT’S MINE NOW.”

Yoongi chased.

The house filled with noise: paws slamming on the floor, claws skidding, furniture being dodged, Jimin barking excitedly, Yoongi yowling angrily. The sock flew through the air. Jimin caught it. Yoongi jumped and missed. Jimin slid into a wall. Yoongi jumped onto Jimin’s back.

“GIVE IT BACK,” Yoongi yelled.

“NO,” Jimin barked.

They crashed into a chair. The chair moved. The lamp wobbled. The plant almost died. That’s when the humans intervened.

“JIMIN.”

“YOONGI.”

Two voices. Two tones. Full parent energy.

Taehyung and Jungkook appeared in the hallway like disappointed gods.

Both arms crossed. Both faces serious. Both tired.

“Absolutely not,” Taehyung said.

“Hey,” Jungkook added. “What did we say about indoor zoomies?”

Jimin froze mid-run. Sock still in mouth. Ears slowly drooping. Tail slowing.

Yoongi froze too. Mid-pounce. One paw in the air. Both of them looked guilty instantly.

Taehyung pointed at the sock.
“Drop it.”

Jimin hesitated.
“It’s soft.”

“Drop it,” Jungkook repeated.

Jimin slowly opened his mouth.

The sock fell. Yoongi immediately sat on it. Protectively.

“Mine now,” Yoongi said.

“No,” Taehyung said.

Yoongi froze.

“Rude.”

Jungkook sighed and picked up the sock.
“This is laundry, not entertainment.”

Jimin sat. Yoongi sat. Side by side. Both dramatic. Both offended. Both silent.

Taehyung looked down at them.
“You cannot destroy the house every time you’re bored.”

Jimin looked away. Yoongi flicked his tail.

Jungkook crouched down to their level.
“We love you, but this chaos thing? Not happening.”

Yoongi muttered,
“He started it.”

Jimin barked quietly,
“He chased me.”

Taehyung pinched the bridge of his nose.
“I’m raising a dog and a cat and two toddlers.”

Jungkook laughed.
“Honestly, same.”

They made them stay sitting. Jimin’s tail twitched. Yoongi’s ears flicked. Both of them looked at each other like This is humiliating. Five seconds passed. Then ten. Then fifteen.

Jimin slowly leaned toward Yoongi and whispered,
“This is embarrassing.”

Yoongi whispered back,
“Stop breathing so loud.”

Taehyung pointed.
“No whispering.”

They both froze again. Guilty. Taehyung sighed, then softened.
“Go lay down. Both of you. Calm bodies.”

Jungkook nodded.
“Couch. Now.”

They obeyed instantly. Not because they were scared. But because they knew the rules.

They walked to the couch together, jumped up, and lay down dramatically, flopping onto their sides like they had been emotionally ruined.

Yoongi muttered,
“We’re oppressed.”

Jimin whispered,
“Truly.”

Taehyung laughed despite himself.
“They’re ridiculous.”

Jungkook sat beside them.
“But they listen.”

Jimin scooted closer to Yoongi. Yoongi didn’t move away. They settled. Breathing slowing. Chaos contained. For now. Two teenagers. Two troublemakers. Two soft hearts. Learning rules. Testing boundaries. Being disciplined. Being loved anyway.

And the humans watched them like tired parents watching siblings who will absolutely cause more chaos later, but for now are calm, quiet, and pretending they’ve learned their lesson.

For now.

The storm came fast and heavy, dark clouds filling the sky and turning the light in the house dim and gray. The air felt strange, thick and tense, like something bad was coming. Jimin felt it before he heard it, his ears twitching and his body going still, his heart starting to beat faster for no clear reason. When the thunder finally cracked through the sky, loud and sharp, it made him jump so hard his paws slid on the floor. Fear rushed through him, sudden and confusing, his breath turning fast and uneven as his body reacted before his mind could understand what was happening.

Yoongi felt it too. The loud sound made his fur puff and his body lower to the ground, his eyes wide and bright with fear. He hated loud noises and sudden sounds, hated not knowing what was coming next. Another thunderclap rolled through the house, shaking the walls and the windows, and the lights flickered for a second. Jimin whimpered softly, and Yoongi hissed under his breath, both of them frozen in the middle of the room, scared and unsure and overwhelmed.

Jimin was the first to move, but not with chaos or panic like he usually did. He walked slowly toward Yoongi and sat beside him, pressing his side gently against Yoongi’s small body. His tail tucked in close to himself, his posture soft instead of loud. Yoongi looked at him in surprise, but when the thunder sounded again, he didn’t think about pride or teasing or pretending to be brave. He moved straight into Jimin, pressing his body against Jimin’s chest and hiding his face in his fur. Jimin instinctively curved his body around him, standing steady and still, creating a quiet, safe shape without even realizing he was doing it.

Taehyung and Jungkook came into the room quickly when they heard the noise, their voices soft and calm as they spoke to them. They tried to guide them toward the couch, but neither Jimin nor Yoongi wanted to separate. Jimin wouldn’t move without Yoongi, and Yoongi refused to leave Jimin’s side, their bodies pressed together as if space itself felt unsafe. So the humans adjusted instead, bringing blankets, dimming the lights, turning on soft music, and making the room feel warmer and smaller and safer. The storm kept raging outside, thunder rolling and rain hitting the windows hard, but inside the house everything slowly became quieter.

Yoongi trembled, and Jimin felt it through their bodies pressed together. Jimin shook too, even though he tried not to show it. They stayed close, breathing together, sharing warmth and fear and comfort all at once. When the thunder boomed again, they both flinched, but neither of them ran. Neither tried to hide alone. They stayed where they were, holding each other in the only way they knew how, learning without words that being together made the fear smaller.

As the storm slowly faded, their breathing slowed with it. Their bodies relaxed, the shaking stopping little by little as the noise outside softened into distant rain. They stayed curled together under the blankets, not moving, not separating, not pretending to be tough anymore. Sleep didn’t come fully, but rest did. Two teenagers who were usually loud and chaotic and dramatic were soft and small and gentle now, finding comfort in each other without needing to explain it.

And when the storm finally passed, they didn’t rush away. They didn’t go back to teasing or chasing or acting tough. They stayed close, still pressed together, still calm, still warm, because in that moment they had learned something simple and important: that fear was easier when it was shared, and that being soft together was stronger than being brave alone.

The morning came slowly, soft and quiet, with pale sunlight slipping through the curtains and laying across the floor in warm golden shapes. The storm was gone, the air clean and calm, the house filled with that peaceful silence that only comes after a long night of rain. Jimin and Yoongi were still curled together under the blankets, their bodies pressed close, breathing slow and steady. Neither of them had moved much during the night, as if sleep itself had wrapped around them and kept them exactly where they felt safest.

Jimin woke first. His eyes opened slowly, heavy with sleep, his body warm and relaxed. For a moment, he didn’t move at all. He just stayed still, feeling Yoongi’s small body tucked against his chest, the gentle rise and fall of his breathing, the soft warmth of shared sleep. His tail gave a small, lazy wag against the blanket, but he stayed quiet, careful not to wake him. The sunlight made Yoongi’s black fur glow softly, and Jimin watched him for a few seconds, calm and peaceful in a way he didn’t often feel.

Yoongi stirred slowly, blinking his eyes open and stretching just a little, still pressed against Jimin. He didn’t pull away. He didn’t act embarrassed. He simply stayed where he was, safe and warm, his body naturally leaning into Jimin’s without thinking about it. For a few quiet moments, they just breathed together, listening to the soft sounds of the house waking up around them.

Jimin lowered his head and gently licked Yoongi’s ear, slow and careful, not playful or teasing, just soft and affectionate. Yoongi made a small sound and responded by grooming Jimin’s chest fur, tiny slow licks, relaxed and unhurried. There was no rush, no chaos, no noise —just comfort, warmth, and closeness. Their bodies stayed tangled together, paws touching, fur mixed, hearts calm.

They shifted a little, settling into a better position, turning their bodies so they fit together more easily. Jimin rested his chin on Yoongi’s head, and Yoongi curled closer into his chest, purring softly while Jimin’s tail wrapped loosely around him. The sunlight slowly climbed higher, warming their backs and their faces, making everything feel gentle and safe.

There was no need to move. No need to play. No need to fight for space. No need to pretend to be tough or independent. Just two growing hearts learning that comfort could be quiet, that love could be calm, and that being close didn’t have to be loud to be real.

They stayed there like that for a long time, grooming each other, cuddling, half-asleep and peaceful, wrapped in soft light and soft warmth, growing together in small, gentle ways that felt natural and right like something they had always been meant to do.

Time changed them, slowly and gently, the way real growing always does. Jimin’s legs grew longer, his body stronger, his energy more controlled, less chaotic and more steady. Yoongi grew sleeker and calmer, his movements smoother, his confidence quiet instead of sharp. They weren’t the tiny scared baby pup and kitten anymore, and they weren’t the chaotic teenagers either. They were adults now, comfortable in their bodies, comfortable in their home, and most of all, comfortable with each other.

They still played, of course. Jimin still chased Yoongi down the hallway, tail wagging, ears flying, joy in every step. Yoongi still darted around corners, jumped onto furniture, hid behind doors, and teased Jimin into following him. But the play was different now. There was no panic in it, no roughness, no fear of hurting each other. It was softer, slower, full of trust. When one of them got tired, the other noticed. When one of them needed space, the other gave it. Their games ended in soft cuddles and shared naps.

They took care of each other in small, quiet ways. Jimin would notice when Yoongi hadn’t eaten much and sit beside his bowl, waiting with him instead of running off to play. Yoongi would notice when Jimin was sore or tired and curl up against his legs, purring softly, grounding him. If Jimin got anxious during storms, Yoongi stayed close. If Yoongi got overwhelmed by noise or strangers, Jimin stood between him and the world, steady and calm and protective without being loud about it.

Mornings were slow and gentle now. They woke up together, stretched together, and groomed each other without rushing. Yoongi cleaned Jimin’s ears carefully, and Jimin licked Yoongi’s head and neck in return. They shared sunspots on the floor, shared blankets on the couch, shared silence without needing to fill it with noise. Their bodies fit together easily, like they had learned each other’s shapes over time.

They weren’t just companions anymore, they were a pair. A team. A quiet unit that moved through the house together, always aware of where the other was, always checking in without needing words. They still teased each other, still played, still caused small bits of chaos now and then, but underneath it all was something deeper and steadier: care, trust, and a bond that had grown slowly over years instead of burning fast.

And when they lay together at night, curled into each other in the dark, it didn’t feel like puppy love or kitten curiosity anymore. It felt like home. Like safety. Like two lives that had grown side by side and chosen, again and again, to keep growing together playful, soft, protective, and deeply, quietly in love.

The house felt full in a soft, living way, the kind of fullness that comes from love, routine, and shared life. Jimin and Yoongi moved through it like they belonged to every corner of it, like the walls and floors and furniture had learned their shapes over time. Taehyung and Jungkook were part of that rhythm too: mornings in the kitchen, voices in the background, coffee smells, quiet music, laughter drifting through the rooms. It wasn’t loud happiness. It was steady happiness. The kind that grows slowly and stays.

Jimin followed Taehyung everywhere, not out of need, but out of affection. He lay near his feet while he worked, watched him move around the house, waited by the door when he left, and greeted him like it was the best moment of the day when he came back. Yoongi did the same with Jungkook, curling beside him on the couch, sleeping on his clothes, sitting near his computer, watching him with calm, trusting eyes. But even with their humans, Jimin and Yoongi always came back to each other. No matter where they were in the house, they checked for the other.

Their days were full of small rituals. Morning sun on the living room floor where they lay together. Shared meals in the kitchen, sitting close even when there was space to spread out. Afternoons in the quiet parts of the house, napping in the same spots they had used since they were small. Evenings on the couch, their bodies naturally fitting together like they had always belonged that way. No one forced it. No one taught it. It just existed.

They took care of each other without making it obvious. When Yoongi got older and moved more slowly, Jimin adjusted his pace to match him. When Jimin’s joints ached after long days, Yoongi stayed close, warm and steady, grounding him. When one of them got sick, the other didn’t leave their side. They shared warmth, space, silence, and comfort like it was breathing.

Sometimes Taehyung would watch them from the doorway, his heart full in that quiet, aching way. Sometimes Jungkook would smile to himself while they slept tangled together on the couch, their bodies rising and falling in the same slow rhythm. They didn’t need to touch them to feel the love in the room. It was everywhere: in the way Jimin rested his head on Yoongi, in the way Yoongi groomed Jimin’s face, in the way they chose each other over and over without thinking.

They grew older together. Slower. Softer. Calmer. The play never fully disappeared, but it gentled with time. The chaos became laughter. The chasing became wandering side by side. The teasing became quiet affection. Their bond didn’t fade, it deepened, settling into something strong and peaceful and unbreakable.

And in the end, their love wasn’t loud. It wasn’t dramatic. It wasn’t full of big moments or grand gestures. It was in the everyday things: shared naps, shared space, shared silence, shared years. Two lives growing together, learning each other, choosing each other.

Because from tiny scared hearts to grown, steady souls, they had built something that didn’t need words to exist. Just presence. Just closeness. Just love.

The house was quiet in the evening, filled with soft light and the low sound of music in the background. Jimin and Yoongi were on the couch, tangled together like they always were, bodies curved into each other in a way that felt natural and effortless. Yoongi was half-asleep, eyes closed, purring softly, while Jimin rested his head on Yoongi’s side, one paw draped gently over him. Their breathing was slow and calm, perfectly in sync, their bodies warm and relaxed, looking less like two animals and more like one shared shape made of fur and trust and years of love.

Taehyung stood in the doorway for a moment, just watching them. Jungkook came up beside him, leaning against the wall, both of them quiet, both of them smiling softly. They didn’t want to disturb the moment. Some things felt too gentle to interrupt.

“They’ve been like this all day,” Jungkook whispered.

Taehyung nodded. “All their lives, basically.”

They watched Jimin shift slightly, careful not to wake Yoongi, adjusting his body so Yoongi stayed comfortable. Yoongi stirred just enough to press closer into Jimin’s chest, then settled again, calm and safe.

Jungkook smiled. “You know… I love you. Like, actually, deeply, stupidly, forever love you.”

Taehyung laughed softly. “I love you too. More than anything.”

There was a quiet pause.

Then Jungkook looked back at the couch and said, “But… I think they love each other more than we love each other.”

Taehyung blinked. “That’s rude.”

Jungkook shrugged. “Look at them.”

Taehyung watched Jimin gently lick Yoongi’s head in his sleep, slow and careful, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

“Okay,” Taehyung admitted. “Yeah. I’m jealous.”

Jungkook smiled. “Same.”

Taehyung crossed his arms. “We’re literally in love, and I’m still jealous of a dog and a cat.”

Jungkook nodded seriously. “Their bond is unfair. It’s illegal levels of devotion.”

They both laughed quietly.

Taehyung sighed. “We’re soulmates.”

Jungkook smiled. “Yeah.”

Then he looked at Jimin and Yoongi again.
“But they’re something else.”

Taehyung nodded softly.
“They’re not just in love.”

“They’re home,” Jungkook said.

They stayed there, watching the two of them breathe together, sleep together, exist together in that quiet, deep way that only comes from a lifetime of choosing each other.

And for a moment, even two humans in love felt small next to a bond that had grown from tiny scared hearts into something timeless, steady, and unbreakable.

Not loud and dramatic. Two souls. One home. One love. Just furrever.
