Work Text:
Jonathan frowned a little as he lifted his arms, measuring tape promptly wrapped around his ribs, which Edward could probably feel under the clothes he recently instructed him to put on. Jervis was still mumbling away in the corner as he went through some sort of list in his own self labelled mad mind as Edward observed the measurements with a critical eye. He picked another coat off the rack before handing it to Jonathan to try on, which Jonathan did.
God, his legs were killing him.
He was seriously questioning as to why he agreed upon this, he’d like to assume that he was under the spell of Jervis’s little cards, but given Jervis isn't a sobbing, hysterical, panicking mess in said corner, it seemed to boil down to a begrudged agreement. Edward had come to him in the morning, simply insisting that he needed more than just three outfits in total (including his Scarecrow outfit), and somehow Jervis had concurred with that idea, and had already made space in his little hat shop he somehow still had.
“You do need to wear something other than your two identical ancient brown coats, however good you look in them.” Edward had said during the morning, in one of his identical green silky dressing gowns.
“I have my flannel shirts.” Jonathan huffed, peeking over his book at Edward.
“Again, and as hot as you look in them, you should at least have more than… Five outfits, at least.”
“Sounds like you’re making up for your isolation as a child with your spending-”
“Oh, fuck off, Jon.” Edward rolled his eyes.
Apparently going clothes shopping involved hats for some reason, although he wouldn’t be adverse to getting a similar hat as his “work” one for more casual settings. Probably why Jervis seemed so eager to chip in with said shopping. Edward had left for the morning to meet with Jervis, leaving Jonathan with some time to read and feed the crows, before Edward appeared back to drag Jonathan off to “model” as he flippantly described. Jervis had happily greeted them. He did enjoy Jervis’s presence, despite the obvious pink elephant in the room about Jervis Tetch, and the face he pulled when Edward told him that Jonathan and him had started dating.
“... Why?” Had been his uncharacteristically blank and baffled response, causing Jonathan to almost double over laughing as Edward “tenaciously” defended their relationship, as Edward later put it.
“March Hare, you need to be perfectly still for this.” Jervis muttered, bringing him back into the present as he gingerly placed another hat on his head. “I’ve been still for the past two hours, Jervis.” Jonathan replied, as Edward glanced over the new version of another possible outfit. They’d at least nailed down two definite outfits that have now been set aside. Edward seemed incredibly focused on this particular outfit, which seemed to contrast Jonathan’s flat expression.
“Hmm, this is probably more of a winter outfit than an all season outfit.” Edward mused, idly flicking back to when Jonathan showed him his crow themed scarf he had. Jonathan added little specs of his interests into his outfits somehow always seemed to surprise Edward for some reason. It was pretty amusing.
“I already have a winter outfit.” Jonathan reminded him. “And fall is the only season that deserves a unique outfit.”
“You wearing a worn out jumper under your coat doesn’t count as a winter outfit, Jon.”
“Fine, I suppose that’ll be a… Suitable replacement for said winter outfit.” Jonathan rolled his eyes.
Once Edward had already set the outfit aside, Jervis had been cheerfully placing different hats on Jonathan, muttering constantly as he debated if it was “just right” for him. Edward finally got around to different pairs of trousers, and given it took about three months to get Jonathan comfortable with the concept of being shirtless around Edward of all people, he promptly shooed Jervis out of the room and shut the door.
As Jonathan finished buttoning up another shirt, Edward peered at his mild annoyed expression. “... We don’t need to keep trying on other clothes if you don’t want to, Jon.” Edward randomly blurted out, seemingly a little sheepish. Jonathan’s frown seemed to break for a minute. “No, no. I’m fine, I… Appreciate your efforts with me.” Jonathan admitted, carefully avoiding maintaining his creepy version of prolonged eye contact. Jonathan’s face had been so pale for long enough, Edward could easily tell that he was blushing.
Or as close as Jonathan Crane to get to blushing.
Edward quickly pecked him on the cheek. “Right, now I’ll get Jervis back in.” Jonathan begrudgingly flicked his eyes to the mirror he’d been actively avoiding this entire time once Edward left the room. He could actually hear Jervis through the door, now he was paying attention.
“March Hare and Doormouse sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N- Ow!”
“Out of all the rhymes you could choose, you choose that one?”
Edward huffed before letting Jervis back into the room, who had been idly fiddling with the string of another hat he was eager for Jonathan to model. He probably rarely got someone willing to try on his hats with a clear mind. Edward grinned a little as Jonathan added it to the outfit he had just tried on.
“Give us a spin.” Edward grinned, Jonathan’s mildly bored look getting sharper as Jervis clapped eagerly at the thought of it. Jonathan rolled his eyes before slightly twirling on his heels, not really trying at all but seemingly still surpassing Edward’s expectations.
“Tada.” He deadpanned.
Edward glanced back at the clothes rack, then the outfits and clothes they’d put in their own separate bags. “Great, now just about… two more racks of clothes to go.” Edward hummed in amusement, before focusing back in on the task at hand and began to inspect the clothes yet again.
“Wait. These ones look like nothing I would wear.” Jonathan grumbled, glancing over at them. “Are you just getting me to… Model for you two?” He didn’t seem displeased, rather confused as to why him specifically.
“Well it seemed practical whilst we’re here.” Edward shrugged with a little grin. Jonathan was aware he could easily leave if he was uncomfortable with it but he just rolled his eyes.
“Fine, but if this agreement reaches beyond this room, I will kill both of you. Slowly.” Jonathan sighed, before Edward nodded and picked out a waistcoat from the rack.
