Chapter Text
Damian didn’t have many friends- just people he knew from the art club. So when the new student got seated next to him- someone who is loud and got many friends way too quickly, his quiet seat turned into a gathering spot at the breaks.
You tried to communicate with him but after he introduced himself to you, he didn’t speak much, so you assumed he didn’t want to be friends with you.
You were wrong.
He wanted to get to know you, to talk to you, he really liked your attitude, jokes and personality, but since you didn’t even look at him, he assumed you didn’t like him.
He was wrong.
This misunderstanding went on for months. And during that time, Damian watched you from afar. And every day, he fell for you a little bit more. He didn’t even notice that he had such feelings for you at first.
Not until Dick called him out. “What do you mean a crush?” Damian seemed genuinely confused when Dick approached him.
“Yeah- you obviously have a crush on that girl next to you in class. I saw the way you look at her when I came to pick you up.” Dick was happy that his brother could feel human emotions.
“Ridiculous.” Damian shook his head- a crush? him? Damian Wayne? The ex assassin? The Robin? The future BatMan? Impossible.
“C’mon Dami, be honest with yourself.” Dick crossed his arms on his chest.
“Stop being ridiculous Grayson, I don’t do crushes.” Damian felt his chest tighten- could it be? “I don’t even talk to her.” That’s right- he didn’t even talk with you, how could he have romantic feelings for you?
Dick smirked. “Imagine her holding some other guys hand and kissing said other guy.”
Damian clenched his fists, his eyes wandering to his blade. The guy didn’t even exist and he wanted to kill him.
The realisation hit him. “Dickhead… I think I have a crush….” He admitted, looking confused. What was he supposed to do? He never talked to you and he was sure you hated him.
Dick smirked. “Told ya! You gotta talk to her!”
Damian felt himself sweat- suddenly, he was uncomfortable in his own skin. “How? She hates me.”
Dick looked confused. “How’d y’know that?”
“She talks with everyone in the class EXCEPT me. Guess.” Damian grumbled. He wanted you to like him- he wanted to impress you. But you hated him. At least that’s what he thought.
“Maybe she is intimidated by you? Why don’t you try speaking to her. Something simple, maybe about class or something. Or compliment her outfit- I don’t know what teenagers talk about these days.” Dick shrugged, suddenly feeling very old.
“I… I can try that….” Damian nodded. “Thank you, Grayson.” He said before running off, leaving a Dick too lost in thought.
Yeah. He should talk to you.
Next Day:
Damian looked over to your seat- you were sitting, looking beautiful and scrolling on your phone. His heart did something weird.
“U-uhm… hey….” He called out to you, clearing his throat nervously. “Uhm… your outfit looks very nice.” He muttered, was he doing this right?
“Thanks…? It’s just the school uniform though.” You tilted your head- was he making fun of you?
Damian face palmed himself innerly, fuck, school uniform, he totally forgot. “I am never asking Grayson for help again….” He didn’t notice he said that out aloud until you started to giggle.
“Were you trying to start a conversation?” You asked, eyes shining with amusement. Damian looked down, scratching his neck. “Maybe…?”
“Well, you succeeded.”
And you started to talk.
And it was so natural.
And he made you laugh.
And you made him laugh.
And it was all great.
