Asking the Moon for a Heart

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

Saïx gazed upon the Moon. Upon the Kingdom Hearts Xemnas had wrought. "Where are you, Axel? Why throw it all away when we could have had everything? Chasing after an illusion?" Saïx felt a sting in his eyes. He ignored it. "It's nothing but the mere memory of tears." Saïx kept staring, unblinking. He wondered what he'd do when he got his Heart, at last. And he could think of

nothing.

Without Axel, how could he go on? No. He just needs his Heart, then he'll know what to do. He doesn't need Axel. He abandoned Saïx. All that is left is to remove Sora and his friends and all will fall into place.

All is as Xemnas has planned. All will be perfect.

All will be Xehan-

And as if on cue, Sora and his fools have arrived. But they will not stand against the power of Kingdom Hearts. They are doomed.

_____

Saïx's claymore slipped from his hands. He had... lost? How? Impossible. He was drawing power from Kingdom Hearts. The moon they had forged from over a year of gathering. He turned around, gazing at it. So far away. Silent. Xemnas promised them Hearts. Told them this was the only way. Otherwise they'd fade into darkness. Oblivion. Kingdom Hearts would make them all powerful and complete.

Did Xemnas lie? No, surely not. He lied about many things, but not about Kingdom Hearts. And the others, they were disposable, but not Saïx - he made sure of that. Not... why did he think these things? Why did he believe so strongly. Saïx can't remember anymore. Was it just desperation? The absence, the hollow being unbearable? Even if he was lying, Kingdom Hearts couldn't. Kingdom Hearts could never lie. And yet, at this moment, wondering why Kingdom Hearts had abandoned him, why it had not given him the Heart he was promised, he could only think of Axel. Axel, who left him. Axel, who turned his back on him. Axel, who lost everything and for what? And yet, here was Saïx, sharing his fate. And he wondered now... did Axel feel what he was feeling right now?

...feeling? He... none of them could feel. It's an illusion. All... an illusion...

And yet, as darkness finally swallowed him, Saix could have sworn he was feeling something - if he didn't know any better.

Despair.

Notes:

Just some random writings I came up with thinking about what Axel's boyfriend was thinking just before and after the boss fight with him.
