Trapped in the amazing digital circus (*funnybunny)

Summary:

After ep 7, Pomni is alone in her room, everything seems to spin around her. Then Jax’s name enters like a parasite in her mind.

Caine’s behaviour is becoming weird, the type of weird that makes your pixels glitch, but Kinger’s butterfly could maybe lead them towards the exit…

Will they make it out of the circus (and will Jax make it out of her head)?

Don’t forget to let a kudo if you like my story, it really helps me push my work and it motivates me a lot, thanks 🙏

Enjoy!

Chapter Text

Pomni was lying on her back, staring at her room. Everything was spinning again and again. The smell of plastic made her want to vomit.

It was an adventure, just another one. What if she had pressed that blue button? Did Caine lie about Shrimp-Town, too? Oh, she could feel her blood boiling (or whatever was filling that f*k!n9 cartoon body).

And why, why the hell did Jax press that fuck!ng red one! Jax... The thing is that, he clearly pushed her away (or maybe she was tired of giving excuses for his behaviour). Only, she had so many... things, she wanted to discuss. About a way to escape obviously... Her head started to spin. She stepped outside, tiptoeing. Pomni knocked two times on Jax's door, counting 30 seconds between each one. No response. A shadow appeared behind her:

- Hey Pomni.

Her heart dropped

- Ahhhh!
- Shhhhhhh.
- Zooble? What are you doing here?
- Searching for a new place to hide. she crossed her arms and glanced at Jax's room. You... you know he's not going to answer right?

Pomni swallowed her saliva

- I just wanted to, ugh nevermind, it's not important. I'll just return to my room. Good night Zooble.
- Night Pomni.

Pomni sighed and glanced one last time at the Immense door. She gained her room and went to bed, facing the wall. Silence filled the air around her.

She was almost in the land of dreams when she heard a discreet but distinct sound of clicking. She stayed still. The door creaked a bit and a filament of light entered the room. It then went darker again. Step noises.

She tried to hide her shivers.

Pomni felt another presence on her bed, then a slight breath. A hand slowly approached and gently caressed her head.

- I'm sorry I pushed you the other day, I really am.

She kept her eyes closed. Someone mumbled:

- What the fu€k am I even doing right now? You really do drive me craaaaazy you know!

The place suddenly felt warmer. Jax lay down on the bed, on its back. Stayed still a little, then turned on his side, facing her back, moved closer and put his hand on her shoulder, trembling. She jumped out of the bed, panting:

- Woah-! What are you doing?
- I-I though you were asleep! Why didn't you...

He cleared his throat and sat on the edge of the bed, legs wide open, unbothered posture, leaning on his elbows. Pomni had her eyes wide open:

- Why!...

She moved closer to him:

- Why are you even here? You shouldn't, we shouldn't ...
- Relaxxxx!
-ohhhh, stop that!

His smile faded a little and he looked away. She let out a sigh and lowered her tone again; who knows who could be observing... Her neck stiffened

- What were you saying before... all that?
- Nothing I wanted you to actually hear. He rolled his eyes. Listen, it's late now and I'd better return to my room to get some sleep
- We don't even need sleep!
- Byeeeee
- Wait!

She grabbed his hand. He turned around and their eyes met. He looked at her hand

- Let. go of my hand.
- Why are you always doing that!!
- Doing WHAT, exactly?
- Yo-you know exactly what I'm talking about!
- Let go.
- No!
- I said, LET. GO.

She looked at his hand, then looked at him with hatred fed by betrayal. Was she the problem for still hoping? She quickly wiped her eyes with her other hand.
-Pomni are you...? he tilted his head to his right.
- No I'm not. It's just... A lot has happened recently and I... forget about it. Get out of my room.

Pomni looked away, frowning. He got closer to her and looked her in the eye. She could feel his breath on her forehead. She looked back at him, unsure.

His pupils got thinner and thinner as his breath started to race. And then, he placed his hand on her chick and they grew bigger than ever. They shared a chill.

- You asked me before, what I would do if you abstract, I want to know, what you would do if I...

He couldn't pick an eye to fix

- I'll heum...

She blinked twice, fast, relaxing herself a little more, a pinched lips.

-I'll hold your hand.
- And after?
- I'll go to your funeral, I guess...
- Oh! You'd really do that huh? How sweet... he smirked.
- Isn't that what YOU are doing with...
- Whit who? He frowned. Go on, say it!
- Stop yelling at me!—

She rose to her feet. There were flames in her eyes. The same flames as...

Jax leaned towards her to tell her something, but resolved himself and sighed. His grip loosened. Pomni felt a discharge run through her body. She knew how to deal with people, but what was she supposed to do with that?

His heart started to beat, fast, too fast. He grabed her shoulders, then let himself slide to the ground, sliding his hands on her arms, his forehead on her chest. He got on his knees, his hands in hers. Then, he gave her the most vulnerable look:

- Pomni I...

He looked away. His fingers slid into hers, tightening. She took her right hand off.

Pomni was standing up with Jax kneeling in front of her, his body slightly collapsed toward her as his forehead rests against her chest and his hands clutch tightly onto hers. His usual smug expression was completely gone and closing his eyelids seemed impossible, even with the dry air, but he couldn’t feel it anyway.

He glanced up at her through half lidded eyes, his ears drooping and shoulders tense, while Pomni gently cradles his head with one hand and holds his fingers with the other, her expression soft, but her eyes glossy and lips slightly parted, before closing.

She let his hands go, got on her knees too and hugged him. Time slowed down.

Jax posed his hand on the ground beside her, leaning forward, while slightly lifting her chin with the other. She leaned backward as their breaths intertwined. He approaches his head, letting a slight gap. She approached her head, but withdrew at the last moment. He pinched his lips and cleared his throat.

Jax let her go, pulled her hands as they got up, leading her towards the bed. He sat on the edge of the bed and she straddled him, gripping his back. Their heartbeats fell into sync. He pulls her close as if she were the most fragile thing in this world, then back up to look at her:

- We are going to regret this won't we?
- I'll regret every moment, but not anything we've built.

- Can I... sleep with you tonight, Pompom?
